Doesn't Mangum bring the same set of skills offensively but an upgrade defensively?
Potentially. Mangum was playing well so maybe he shouldn't get Pipp'd but he better continue his playing level. I just figured they would have moved someone else to make room for Mangum with how well Simpson was offensively playing. At least for a series or two.

The only reason Simpson was up in the first place was because of the injuries to DeLuca and Palacios. Simpson was in single A ball at this time last year; a month or two in Durham working on defense and plate discipline will help him in the long run. He was a 2B in college but has the tools to be a major league CF.

Are the Pirates still paying Bobby Bonilla?

That's the Mets
The Orioles are still paying him as well.

$500,000 a year from 2004-28

"Bonilla's deferred salary with the Mets is the most famous July 1 payment in baseball, hands down, but it is not the only July 1 payment in the game. In fact, Bonilla has a second deferred salary agreement with the Baltimore Orioles, who still owe him $500,000 a year from 2004-28. July 1 is a good day in the Bonilla household."
This is why the Orioles have been such a great organization the last several decades

Why do I keep following this train wreck?

The Orioles are paying Bonilla deferred money because they traded for him near the end of his contract with the Mets. He was a decent pickup for Baltimore at the time and helped them to a wild card in 1996.

If the rumors are true about the Orioles hiring David Ross then that is a very good move.

I know it is a cutthroat business, but the way it ended for him with the Cubs was very bad. He deserves another chance.

Mookie Betts a late scratch from the Dodgers lineup in the first game of the series against the Yankees. Dodgers had an off day yesterday, so this is concerning.

1 out bases loaded and Ohtani on deck...how about tell Rojas not to swing. He either walks or strikes out and you get Ohtani with the bases loaded.

LOL @ the Dodgers unis. I know these alt / "City" things are selling. Kids are eating up the Miami Vice pastels these days but I'm not sure what market goes for this concoction. Hideous.

Literally, as I'm typing, I see a closeup and notice they've also got tiny colored dots all over them. Rainbow colors, of course, like you see with recycled products. The hats too, who's going to buy those?

Could these be their "Barstows"? Because you can definitely see the meth influence.

Skubal with another dominating performance, allowing 2 hits, no walks and 7 strikeouts in 7 innings. As much as I like A.J. Hinch, he simply can't pull Skubal after only 90 pitches in a scoreless game. There is no excuse for that imo.

Got to catch the Padres game yesterday and was about 10 seats away from getting both Machado's and McCutchen's HRs (both landed equal distance from us in either direction and both in the same row). My son got a warm up ball tossed to him from Sheets right before first pitch. Another kid was all bummed that he didn't get it, but then he was the one who caught Machado's HR as it ricocheted off the video board above us. They befriended each other and were chatting between innings. I told my son that if he gets another ball tossed to him that he should give it to the toddler that was next to us, and as it turned out the kid who caught Machado's HR got a warm up ball tossed to him and ended up giving it to the same toddler. Like-minded kids.

Fun game, great ballpark, gracious fans and San Diego is just such a fantastic city.

**** the Padres
Where’s the dislike button?
I’m a Giants fan. I’m more upset at how atrocious their bats are.

Still love SD, love their fans, love the city, love the ballpark, and love the beer (drinking a North Park IPA).
Lucky for us the only bats worse than ours right now are you guys. Neither team looks like the April versions.
I will also add that even though the Padres are our rivals and I want the Giants to beat them more than anything, I pull for them if the Giants aren’t in contention. #NLBest

The White Sox would like to have a word with you.

So the Royals call up Jac Caglianone.

I'm just waiting for the day when he gets a game winning hit at home and Rex Hudler fumbling around with:

"And it's a Jac Off for the rookie!!"

and just so I have this right....Jac stands for Jeffrey Alan Caglianone?

Finally the Giants beat the Padres. Enjoying some quality SD brews while watching the game from my beachfront AirBNB. North Park Beer Co is so f’n good

Chandler Simpson gets sent to Triple A. He is hitting .285 with 19 SB's, 17 Runs and only 14K's in 123 AB's. He is not a power hitter but he brings a ton of other things to the table. I saw one outlet say much of the reason is that since he doesn't hit HR's he needs to play better defense to justify his spot in the lineup. So getting on base and in scoring position and scoring runs isn't valuable? This makes no sense.

Guessing this is because Jake Mangum is back and ready for action? Feels like if there's one team that understands the importance of getting on base and stealing bags it's the power-deficient Rays.
I mean that is the transaction aspect but Simpson played well enough to keep his spot and be in the lineup. He brings something nobody else brings.

Doesn't Mangum bring the same set of skills offensively but an upgrade defensively? Where is Tampa Capella when we need him?
Hi. Weirdly there is another thread here where I was discussing this with MOP. Mangum is a better player right now, gets on base more, way better in the field, slightly more power. They both run a ton so about the same there. Simpson is fun though, he’ll be a player later this year for them.

Jerry Reinsdorf agrees to a deal with Justin Ishbia giving the Ishbias an option to acquire controlling interest in the team in the 2029-34 timeframe. They pivoted quickly from the failed Twins acquisition.

Some have opined that his interest in the Twins was simply a way to put pressure on Reinsdorf.
