***Official 4th pick- 12 team standard performance (1 Viewer)

Couldn't find a 4 th pick thread... I am assuming foster, rice and McCoy goes before this pick. What do you think? This is tough for me personally. Here are my current houghts...

Ryan Matthews- seems like the logical RB pick here to me. He's going to be used a lot in SD this year. Not without risk though.

Other RBs I am considering... Chris Johnson, I think he is going to bounce back this year plus what else are hey going to do. Darren McFadden, stud when he plays but hasn't played a full 16 yet. Bottom line is I'm not confident in any RB here.

Calvin Johnson - hands down he #1 WR his year. Problems are WRs are deep his year ( supposedly) and THE CURSE:)

Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady- both solid stud QBs. I think tou could argue either one as the #1 QB this year.

I never like to mess up with my first pick so personally I am leaning Calvin or a QB at this point.

I'm in a 12 team PPR and I'm up in the air on Rodgers and Calvin. Man, I just don't get how people could spend such a high pick on Matthews. I love his talent, but there is no way he can stay healthy for a full season.

If my league was PPR I wouldn't hesitate on Calvin

Anyone getting a feeling about McFadden this year? I just can't help but think he in line for a big season this year. I had the same feeling about Calvin Johnson last year. Tough to pull the trigger on him though with his injury history.

I got burned by McFadden last year and I just don't have faith in him staying healthy. It also didn't help when he was recently quoted as saying he wouldn't change his running style. Yes, I admire the way he plays the game, but his body just can't handle the pounding. Where in the draft would he represent great value to you?

Anyone else have the #4 pick and find yourself debating between Rodgers and Calvin? I would love to hear someone make a compelling argument for an RB here, because I just can't see going in that direction.

I have pick #4 in a .5 PPR league where all TD are worth 6 pts. Im basically gonna take whoevers left between the big 3 RBs or Rodgers. Although, I hate drafting a QB early and Mathews is still in play. He will be a stud IMO. No way do I take Calvin. WRs can get shut down too easily. Heck Johnson had a stretch of games last year where he was pretty average.

I'm four and am going through the same considerations. After mocking and looking at ADP's, I think you have to go Foster, Rice, McCoy if one is there. RB's fall off quick by the time your second pick comes around. I was considering Calvin even if a 'big 3' RB was left since he's so clearly in a tier all his own as the #1 WR (and is a rare player that could break single season records). But for me the key with WR's is how many quality guys are left in rounds 4-5 and maybe even 6 (Colston, Bowe, Decker for example).

Ideal draft I see is-

1. Top 3 RB

2. Top 2 TE

3. Vick (Cam if really lucky)

4. WR

5. WR

6. WR

7. Best of the lot RB left (several part timers- Ingram, Hillis, Redman, etc.)

Several different ways you could go after round 1, but stapling that #1 RB with the first pick permits a lot more flexibility with the rest of the picks.

I agree that I'd go Calvin and maybe Rodgers if a big 3 rb isn't available, but I haven't pieced the rest of the draft together yet.

No doubt in my mind, i would go with whoever is left between the big 3 and Rodgers. I dont like taking a WR too early with your 1st round pick, especially this year.

I had McFadden in many leagues last year, and was able to pick up Michael Bush in all of them, so I wasn't burned at all. However, it might be tough to identify McFadden's handcuff this year. And I think selected his handcuff is the only way I would consider him in the 1st round.

To me, the pick is Mathews. An elite RB talent, with tremendous pass catching ability, in a great situation with basically no competition. Like McFadden, hes a guy that will perform at a high level when he plays. And in the cases where me might miss a few games, you still get to replace him with another Rb. It's not like you get a 0 for the week if he misses a game. I'll take 13-14 games of elite production, draft good depth and not blink if he misses some time.

There's just too much depth at QB and WR to justify an early pick on them. I think people are paying for last year's production when in all liklihood, the passing numbers will come back to earth a bit.

As I stated a few days ago in this thread, people need to realize that Matthews will never stay healthy. He will not be on any of my fantasy teams.

I only returned because I have interest in the 4th pick. Last I checked, you were never part of this conversation, so I'm perplexed as to why you all of the sudden decided to chime in--if you don't have the 4th pick in a draft, move on and have a nice day.

I do have the 4th pick and was reading the forum. Just found it funny you posted just to brag about being right...doesn't add much to the convo. No one has him in consideration at the 4 spot anymore. On another note, looks like Rodgers is clearing up as the pick here assuming the big 3 go top 3.

I see your point, but just couldn't understand how people were comfortable taking him as the 4th RB off the board. I'm leaning towards Rodgers as well, but I'm torn passing up Calvin.

With how deep WR is this year, I'm actually leaning towards taking Rodgers. I never envisioned taking a QB in round one, but I'm just not comfortable with any of those RB's after the big three and I like the WR value in the mid rounds.

Depending on if we go Rodgers/Calvin in round one, who do you think will be available in round two? Is there a RB we hope slips that far and represents great value?

So word on the street is rodgers is going top 3 in my draft. Ill happily scoop up mccoy and mathews with my first two picks

I'm actually hoping for graham or gronk to slip. RBs I'm eyeing Sjax or lynch. Wondering too if Peterson or Charles might slip. Tough to say. One I am really hoping will slip is demarco Murray .

I had 4th pick in a 12-team non-PPR draft last night, here's how the first half played out for me.

1.04 L.McCoy

2.09 D.Murray

3.04 J.Charles

4.09 M.Ryan

5.04 B.Lloyd

6.09 D.Martin

7.04 D.Moore

8.09 RG3

9.04 F.Davis

Not fishing for compliments in any way. (I am very pleased with my haul.) Was resolved to take Rodgers at #4 until he went #2, allowing me to pounce on McCoy. I continued to greedily feast on RBs, couldn't pass on the value that slipped. I may be a little thin at WR, but it doesn't concern me much because the lineup requirement for the league is 1RB/1 WR/3 Flex. I did manage to hit on a few upside WRs (Washington, LaFell, Cobb) later. I was really surprised at how spooked people were about various RBs - several caustic comments regarding the RB selections I made after McCoy. This skepticism fueled runs on WR and TE throughout rounds 2-5, a bit earlier than I was expecting. Luckily there was still enough depth for me to get a taste.

I hope my fourth-pick brethren do as well.

Where did Calvin go?

Just finished a 12 team PPR (FFPC league) and I drafted from the #4 slot. I took the following:

1 Calvin

2 MJD (took him over Richardson)

3 Stafford

4 Martin

5 Lloyd

6 Hillis

7 Wayne

8 Tamme

9 Little

10 Wilson

11 Hunter

12 Rudolph

.....

I am debating either a Chris Johnson->AJ Green or Julio->Roddy White start to my draft from #4 or Megatron->Jam Charles->AJ Green start to my draft.

I am #4 in a 12 team .5 PPR league with 4pt passing TD's so I am not considering a QB here. I already know McCoy, Foster, Rice are gone.

I am leaning towards Chris Johnson or McFadden here. I have done multiple mocks taking Calvin or Rodgers and just don't like what I get at RB for round 2. Both are the ultimate risk/reward choices here.

Now the decision becomes...which one?

Is anyone considering Chris Johnson (assuming the big 3 RB's are gone of course)? For me it's between Rodgers & him.

I just never like my team all that much when I take Rodgers in these mocks. Best case scenario seems to be Mathews or SJax in the 2nd, FJax in the 3rd. If FJax is gone in the 3rd I'll take White/Jennings/Green/Marshall (I never know which of these guys to pick?) instead.

Regardless, I'm never too thrilled about the 4th round options as I'm always looking at the top of the 3rd RB/WR tiers (I always want to pluck guys at the bottom of their tier). I don't like the best available RB's at 4.8 anymore than Shonn Greene who I can always get in the 5th so I never want to pick a RB. I guess I'm fine with Dez Bryant there, but really I feel like it's the right spot to take Vick if I didn't have a QB already.

On the other hand, I'm not sure the idea that taking QB first this yr hinders your ability to draft value/BPA later, as it does most years. I mean ya I like Rivers/Mannings/Ryan/Romo but then again if they're all available why bother taking one when one will available later? Plus you're going to want a solid back-up with those guys where as you don't really need one with ARod.

After being burned by him last year, i'm scared of taking Chris Johnson this year. I rather go with a safer pick of Rodgers of Calvin. C.Johnson might outperform those other two at that draft slot, but the risk is lower with Rodgers and Calvin.

for those debating on Chris Johnson at 4 i think a realistic top 4 picks could be something like this

CJ

AJ Green

Roddy White

Matt Ryan

I like it.

Megatron has his risks as well. No receiver has ever repeated a season like he had last year. Thats a huge risk. If you take him at 4 overall, your betting on him repeating or besting his year last year.

You're not betting on that at all.

Anyone considering McFadden? After reading that CJ vs McFadden thread I'm starting to waiver on my Calvin or CF pick...

Ive been considering dmc vs cj2k this whole time. Still don't know who is better pick.

I am probably going to grab Rodgers if he is still there. and there is a good chance since many of the guys are eagles fans. I'd prefer not to pick any Eagle if I can help it. I am probably going with Calvin assuming that Ray and Foster are already taken. I am thinking Chris Johnson is tempting because I think he'll have a bounce back year. DMC is someone I am afraid of because of injuries.

So Rodgers or Calvin? And then you even mention C.Johnson, its seems like you haven't made up your mind :)

Yeah I just read that and realized how fragmented that sounded so I edited it :football: If it wasn't for that damn madden cures i'd have no fear with calvin. prob gonna take him anyway. But definitely Rodgers if he is still there. I will do about 1000 mock drafts though to make sure... :D

As the author of "that CJ vs McFadden" thread i can say that after last night, i've scratched CJ off my list. Let him be someone else's headache. His offensive line sucks and his preason ypc is horrificly bad. I know its the preseason but besides for a couple runs against the worst run defense in football last week, he's sucked.I think at the 4 spot, especially if qb td's are only worth 4, the decision is now DMAC vs Calvin. Unless of course someone takes Rodgers top 3, then either rice, foster or mccoy fall to you. Calvin is very safe and tempting but that position is just so deep. Compare these two startsDMAC-->AJ Green/Julio Jones-->Percy HarvinorCalvin-->Steven Jackson-->Harvin

Rice or Foster would be a no brainer for me. I took Rice with the first pick alst year and never looked back. I love him.

I like the first option (DMAC & Green/JOones) better than the 2nd option.

I am afraid of Harvin. He killed me last year. He was so slow to get going that I dropped him and then had him shoved up my #### by the guy who picked him up.

I am noticing in the mocks that at the 3rd round I am usually getting a good chance to get Gronk or Graham at TE. In past years I would grag gates at 3rd round or never get another chance at him. I am thinking elite TE for 3rd round pick this year.

Still think I'm going with Calvin. Just don't want the DMac head ache. Would anyone be surprised if Calvin put up 20tds this year? I wouldn't.

good luck with getting one of them in the 3rd

do you think they will be gone or that it is a bad move? In the mocks I have been doing the seem to still be there and by the end of the third they are gone. I would still be happy to get Gates at 3rd round. He will be a beast this year with Vjax gone as long as his foot is ok.

Ok after last night I've scratched Cj2k off my list. His Oline looked awful and he looked tenative to run. Maybe its just preseason, but I didn't like what I saw. For me its between DMC and Calvin. I really want to take calvin, but man the rb's are so thin this year. I always end up with horrible rb's. Can get plenty good WR's in rounds 3-5, but RB's are either old or unproven there.

For me I think I'm gonna take the chance on DMC at 4.

I dunno, what would you rather have?

Calvin

Fjax

Trich

Lloyd

DMC

Fjax

Marshall

Harvin

the other option would be the "upside down" type draft talked about in this site. grab Megatron, wr,te or wr, qb, rb, rb, rb.your rb's would be lame but think about a roster ofMegatronAJ GreenJordy NelsonGatesMatt Ryan
