*Official* 8th pick thread (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
I drew the 8th pick in a 12 team competitive money league.

I've run several mocks from this position and almost always take a WR.

The only times I've passed on either Fitz or AJ was if LT was there. That's not very often.

If I take either AJ or Fitz, I'm hoping Portis, Gore or a comparable RB fall to me in round 2.

I feel that's a great start from this spot.

If I take LT. I take Smith, Wayne or maybe if I'm lucky Calvin.

Third and fourth rounds become best avilable, but the goal is to get both another RB and a WR.

What do QBs get for TDs and is it PPR?

I thought this discussion would be open for different scoring, etc.In my league, QB's get 4 points per TD and it is .5 PPR for RB's WR's and TE's.

i just got the 8th pick/12 6 pts all tds non ppr...with flex 2rb 2wr in my league and i havent started looking at anything...what are the general strategies for this yr with this pick???

Might be a bit different for those with leagues scoring 6 pts for passing TD's. Might have to consider Brady or Brees in the 2nd.For 4 pt per passing TD leagues, I've rarely seen anyone fo RB-RB from the 8th spot. It's been WR-RB or RB-WR.In the few mocks I've done, I've ended up:AJ / Fitz and Portis / Gore if going WR-RBOr some combination of LT / Slaton and Wayne / SSmith if going RB - WR

8th pick 12 team PPR 3rd round reversal

I've been messing around with this idea in some mocks:

1.8 Moss

2.5 Brady

3.5 Welker

then getting value RBs and and a very good TE in rounds 4 through 9.

I was actually considering this myself but doubt I could pull the trigger on it. It just seems like investing too much on Brady.I'm on deck in a 1 RB/2 WR/1 TE/ 1 flex ppr with 4/TD 1/20yds for QB. 12 teams.

I grabbed Moss at 8 just after Fitz and my plan was to try and swap 2nd/3rd/5th with a later 2nd rounder so I could probably still get Brady plus move up a little in the 3rd and 5th .

The thing is, Manning and Wayne both got picked early 2nd and both Calvin and Deangelo are still on the board, which I did not expect, so I may forgo the tandem to take DW and would most likely take Calvin if there. I never thought he'd get back to me since we can start 3 WR. He and Moss together are very tempting.

I will update once something happens.

Starting Moss and Calvin would be great. But the thing I've noticed is that those 4th and 5th round RB's are moving up into the 3rd now.I'm not thinking of going LT / WR if LT is there. Or One of the elite WR's and then best RB available in round 2.

LT was gone before 8 for me and probably most PPR drafts, but good luck.I ended up getting Calvin and just received an offer of 2,08/7th for my 3rd/4th. While fair, I would take QB next (Brady or Brees) and be left with mid 5th for RB1, which I don't like.

I countered with 2,08/9th for my 3rd/5th, which favors him but I like 4,05 as my RB1 better. In a flex where we can start 1 RB I would be okay with that given Brady or Brees with Moss/Cal.

Best RB avail. is probably P Thomas (Portis just went 2,06) so I probably won't go RB at 2,08, but I has to admit, Boldin or Jennings and Warner/Rogers/Rivers in 4th would be tempting, although RB1= 6,05. I just may do it, again cause its start 1 RB and ppr.

finally! I've been waiting for this thread. I'm in a 12-teamer, non-PPR league. I'm going with Dre Johnson with my 1st with hopes that either Gore, Slaton, or CJ falls to me in the 2nd. If none of them are available, I'm leaning towards going wr/wr with a Dre/Calvin Johnson combo, and try my luck at getting either Ronnie Brown or Pierre Thomas as my #1 rb in the 3rd round..

2.5 is a bit early for Brady IMHO. I don't think we're going to see another season like 2007 where he basically lapped the QB field.

That sounds like a very strong strategy in a PPR start 2RB/3WR league. However in a non-PPR league, I think I would have to consider grabbing a RB at #8 or #17.

Ideally, that's the plan. I would like to snag a rb in the #2...preferably Frank Gore or Steve Slaton. Outside of those 2, the other RB's that are projected to go in the 2nd round in our league are guys like Brandon Jacobs, Clinton Portis, and Brian Westbrook. And I personally do not trust those 3 to be my #1. Id rather do Calvin before those 3.

Yep, I agree. I think trading down to around 2,09 or 2,10 to take Brady and picking up some position in the 3rd or elsewhere is the way to go

If you are talking Non-ppr, then I would say you are reaching for Andre at the 8th spot, and Gore, CJ and Slaton will definitely not be their by your second pick. You're better off picking the best RB at 8th (CJ or Gore are right around the 8th spot in my rankings) and grabbing Calvin Johnson with your 2nd pick (who knows, you may get lucky and Andre might fall to you).I seriously doubt Ronnie Brown or Pierre Thomas will be around at your 3rd pick (as they're currently going at the end of the 2nd round). In terms of RBs you would be looking at Kevin Smith, Ryan Grant, or a RBBC lead back.Don't underestimate how quickly RBs go in non-ppr formats.

Here's my personal twist on the #8 draft slot: I've got the #8 pick in my 1-keeper league with ADP as my keeper. However, in this league your keeper becomes your round one pick, so I'm locking in with Peterson at #8. This is a 12-team, half PPR, start 1QB/2RB/2WR/1TE/1Def-ST/1PK and 1 WR/TE flex (might as well be start 3WR).

So given that the rules of my league slant a bit toward WRs and I've already got my RB#1 nailed down, I'd like to target a WR in round 2 (#17). I'm assuming that all of the top-4 WRs (LFitz, RMoss, and the two Johnsons) will be gone by this point. So my likely options will come down to someone like Wayne, RWhite, Jennings, none of whom I'm absolutely sold on.

Who would you target at the #17 spot? What about Round 3?

I ended grabbing Brees over Brady at 2,08, Brady went next and Boldin fell to 2,11. Roddy White and Steve Smith are still on the board at 2,12, as well as Colston, so very good receivers can be had up to the top of round 3. I will grab best RB available at 4,05 and then best overall available (hopefully a nice TE) at 6,05. So far so good

Would be helpful to see what rbs were available when a stud wr was taken at the 8 spot.

I landed the 8 spot in both leagues I play in and am curious how the rbs were drafted in recent drafts. My cheatsheet currently looks like;

ADP

Turner

DWill

MJD

SJax

Chris Johnson

Brady

Forte

After Jackson - I have the rest fairly even. If one of my top 5 backs are there - I will grab him without hesitation. If they are all gone, I am gonna have a tough decision. We have the ability to play 2qbs and that makes Brady very appealing to me.

I'm in a non-PPR 12-team redraft, and I'm thinking about taking Moss here at #8. I think he will outperform the RBs I might otherwise be considering here: Slaton, Johnson, SJax, Jacobs). Thoughts?

I really think there is plenty of RB value later to allow you to "catch up" after skipping them in round 1 or and/or round two. I took Moss at #8 over Andre Johnson. Fitz was gone, but I have Moss higher anyway. I took Brees at 17. Brady was still available. Didn't want the Moss/Brady combo and our league has funny QB scoring boosting Brees over Brady.

The RBs I got in rounds 3-4-5 are killer, in my opinion. Try this strategy!

Here are the first 12 rounds:

This is the first year my local live draft is the day before the first game.

12 team, standard line-up, a bit td heavy.

Don't have much to offer, but I am loving the information you guys are providing.

Hopefully I am the shark  come draft day.

This is also a shameless self-serving bump :lmao:

Had my 14 team redraft last night. Non PPR, start 1/2/2/1/1/1, plus 1 Flex (RB/WR/TE). Drafted from the 8 spot:

1.8 Steven Jackson

2.7 Calvin Johnson

3.8 Steve Smith

4.7 Dwayne Bowe

5.8 Cedric Benson

6.7 Derrick Ward

7.8 Owen Daniels

8.7 Jay Cutler

9.8 Donnie Avery

10.7 David Garrard

11.8 Packers D/ST

12.7 Nate Kaeding

13.8 Domenik Hixon

14.7 Edgerrin James

Then today I traded Benson, Avery, and Hixon for Portis.

12 team non-PPR redraft:

01.08 Randy Moss

02.05 Clinton Portis

03.08 Kevin Smith

04.05 T.J. Houshmandzadeh

11.08 Ricky Williams

12.05 Heath Miller

13.08 Michael Jenkins

14.05 Joe Flacco

15.08 Laurence Maroney

16.05 Neil Rackers

12 Team PPR, 1 flex:

1. (8) Larry Fitzgerald

2. (17) Brandon Jacobs

3. (32) Aaron Rodgers

12. (137) Leon Washington

13. (152) Nate Burleson

14. (161) Green Bay

15. (176) Jason Hanson

When i took Fitz, the following RBs were still on the board: Jackson, LT, Gore, AND Slaton.

If i knew that Rice would be there at 9.8 and Leon at 12.5, i would've taken Megatron at 2.5. I really dont like my WRs outside of Fitz, but i am overflowing with RBs IMO

Drafting in a couple of hours. 12 team, non-ppr.

Our league (a bit td heavy) allows for starting 4 wr's and 1 rb.

Thinking of grabbing WR's early if the value falls to me.

Unless a top 5-6 rb falls in my lap (I doubt it) I could go WR/WR/and maybe another WR or RB depending on when the run on the rest of the WR's starts. I could then stock up on 3rd tier RB's and play the match-ups.

Just thinking out loud.

Rate My Team gives me an 80-85 chance of making the playoffs :lmao:

Drafting tonight and looks like LT or Sjax in the first, hoping for Calvin Johnson on the flip. Looks like no WR's will go until pick 9 so that increases the chanes of Calvin getting back to me.

Here are the first 12 rounds:1.08 8. Ten Yard Fight Moss, Randy NEP WR Sat Aug 29 1:06:13 p.m. ET 20092.05 17. That team is decent. I prefer Kurt Warner later and a better WR in the 2nd, however.
