Well, I don't know Will Smith, so me forgiving him or not forgiving him means nada, but I just don't think this one incident suddenly makes him a jerk. I am sure success and power and money have made him feel entitled which is why he was able to shake it off and accept his award and then party afterwards like nothing had happened, but this is, what, the first stain on him in 35 years of being in the public eye. I just think some perspective is in order. And I say that while conceding that punishment still needs to be handed down for his actions. You’re a forgiving man Ghost. Ain’t nothing wrong with that.![]()
This is ridiculous. Chris Rock just became relevant again and is going to make bank off of this for a long time to come. He handled the situation as perfectly and professionally as one could. He took the hit like a champ, didn't retaliate, made it clear he could've verbally destroyed Will in that moment but decided to hold his tongue out of respect for the moment. His reputation is better than ever. Rock is the big winner in all of this actually. The damage to Rock wasn't physical--it was to his reputation. Jim Carrey said he would sue Smith for $200MM. Howard Stern talked about this too--Chris Rock will always be remembered as the guy who got ##### slapped.
It’s not ridiculous. If I were Chris Rock I would rather not be associated with getting smacked on National TV and have it replayed to literally hundreds of millions of people - for the rest of eternity. This is ridiculous. But why? It's not like it made him look bad, or weak or anything really negative to his manhood. It actually made him look very professional the way he handled it. The more that's replayed the more it continues Rock's relevancy and, in turn, his bankroll. There's literally nothing negative about this for Rock and his career/legacy.It’s not ridiculous. He just got #####-slapped on National TV. It's embarrasing. In 25 years from now, what's the first thing that people are going to remember when his name is bought up? Hid great comedy, or being slapped in front of the largest audience in the world? But why? It's not like it made him look bad, or weak or anything really negative to his manhood. How is what ultimately transpired embarrassing for him? If he would've fallen over, started crying or acted like a B, then yeah....but, that's not what happened. He ate the slap and acted 100% professionally after. He just got #####-slapped on National TV. It's embarrasing. Not the way he is now, and you're naive to think otherwise His standup ticket prices prove this.he was relevant before this
Hes got 3 movies coming out in 2022 - one he producedNot the way he is now, and you're naive to think otherwise His standup ticket prices prove this.
per NY Post:
Tickets prices for the tour, which includes stops in 30 North American cities, rose from a minimum of $46 per ticket on March 18 to a whopping minimum of $341 on secondary market platform TickPick since the Academy Awards drama, Variety reported.
I never said he was completely irrelevant...if that was the case, he would've never been a presenter on the Oscars in the first place. But to really say with a straight face that his popularity rank/$$ pulling power in the entertainment industry hasn't jumped significantly since this event is silly.Hes got 3 movies coming out in 2022 - one he produced
He has produced 3 TV shows in the last 4 years.....
Just because hes not doing big blockbusters doesnt make him irrelevant
I agree with you that Rock ultimately wins out on this and Smith loses. Rock handled a terrible situation incredibly well. But I don’t agree with how you’ve constantly minimized this. “Just a slap”. On the Offdee Scale I’d give you about a 2 in this thread. Still would grab a drink with you in Vegas again though. How is what ultimately transpired embarrassing for him? And ultimately this moment in time will exponentially increase his net worth. Dude hit the lottery and his popularity and relevance has never been higher. No downside for Rock in all of this.
lol, I guess we just disagree on the "slap". I'd have a total different perspective if it was a closed fist punch, but a slap is just.....well, nothing in terms of potential damage. Was it wrong, yes, but on the scale of things Smith could've done beyond words, the only less violent thing would've been if he took a glove out of his pocket and whacked it across his face like an old British woman.I agree with you that Rock ultimately wins out on this and Smith loses. Agree, otherwise he wouldn't have been hostinghe was relevant before this
I agree that Rock makes out like a champ. Jada will probably share her side soon at a Red Table Talk. So, who is the loser here? How is what ultimately transpired embarrassing for him? Will saw Jada not laughing and realized he needed to do something to save face with herWas there a camera isolated on the Smiths before Will went up on stage? Wondering what changed between him laughing at Rock's Jada joke and flipping out
How can anyone argue with this?I agree that Rock makes out like a champ. Jada will probably share her side soon at a Red Table Talk. So, who is the loser here?
I think Will is a nice guy who got manipulated by Hollywood, Scientology, open relationships, and maybe illuminati. At the very least, it appears Willow and Jaden made a pact with slenderman.
Now we all know that 4 is more, 5 is live, and 9 is divine:
Will Smith, 4 + 5 = 9
Chris Rock, 5 + 4 = 9
Is it a coincidence that before Will and Jada's entanglement, Will had a son named Tre and Jada dated 2pac?
Tre squared = 9
Are you listening yet?
Its ####### embarrassing. He got slapped on national TV and nobody did anything to the person who slapped him. THey just let him sit there the whole time. Id be mortified if that happened to me and now we will forever know Chris Rock as the victim of this incident. But why? Demand and prices for tickets to Chris Rock’s comedy tour have surged since he was slapped by Will Smith at the Oscars on Sunday night, a report said.
Tickets prices for the tour, which includes stops in 30 North American cities, rose from a minimum of $46 per ticket on March 18 to a whopping minimum of $341 on secondary market platform TickPick since the Academy Awards drama, Variety reported.
TickPick also said that from Sunday night through Monday the company sold more tickets to the comedian’s tour than they did all of the past month.
You didnt see the disgusted look and eye roll on Jada's face? Was there a camera isolated on the Smiths before Will went up on stage? Wondering what changed between him laughing at Rock's Jada joke and flipping out
Tell me then, what is the downside for him? You're the naive one for being completely oblivious to any possible downside for Rock out of this situation.
I think you’d get over it after it puts a couple extra million dollars in your bank account. Its ####### embarrassing. It's awesome to sell out the venue, but he's not banking this extra cash. Not the way he is now, and you're naive to think otherwise His standup ticket prices prove this.
I have seen another video where Questlove ,who won the award Rock was presenting, stops and gives Smith a big embrace on the way to the stage. Rock looks on with an odd look on his face and then steps to the side as Questlove starts his acceptance speech.jobarules said:Its ####### embarrassing. It's bull####. If someone ##### slapped me in front of a bunch of people I know and my "friends" supported the person who slapped me I'd be ####### humiliated and those people would no longer be my friends.I have seen another video where Questlove ,who won the award Rock was presenting, stops and gives Smith a big embrace on the way to the stage. I have seen other shots that show Bradley Cooper and Samuel L Jackson talking to Smith during the commercial break and Smith already said in his acceptance speech that Denzel spoke to him. Nobody seemed too worried about Rock after the slap.
I did. But Will didn't because he was watching Chris on stage. Clearly something transpired between Jada and Will in a few seconds. I'm curious as to what made him go from yucking along to PO'd.jobarules said:You didnt see the disgusted look and eye roll on Jada's face?
And a whole lot of the opposite in this thread.Whole lot of machismo in this thread...
Geez dude, grow a pair. If it was me that just got slapped by Will Smith and I ate the thing like nothing and laughed it off basically making him look like a little punk for coming at me with a B slap....and THEN the realization that it was filmed and I now have one of the richest men in Hollywood's balls by a string, AND now my name will be in the lights while I'm just starting my comedy tour, AND giving me years of gold material to make jokes about with guaranteed laughs because the audience is basically living this material with me?!?It's bull####. I would definitely remember him as one of the greatest stand-up comedians ever over the slap.Chaz McNulty said:He just got #####-slapped on National TV. It's embarrasing. Me too. But a lot of the younger generation won't.I would definitely remember him as one of the greatest stand-up comedians ever over the slap.
He’s aight.I would definitely remember him as one of the greatest stand-up comedians ever over the slap.
He had a run of comedy specials that firmly place him among the all-time stand up greats. Dude was hysterically funny. He’s aight.
This x1000%. This video shows Rock just after the incident...he's dazed, confused, looks really sad...it's heartbreaking. That will make the rounds...this initial support of Smith will wane...Rock's popularity will skyrocket...and Smith's career will fade away.offdee said:This is ridiculous. What gets me every time I watch the slap video is the smug, arrogant, satisfied look on Smith's face as he turns and walks back to his seat. Total cocky #######.This x1000%. Definitely. To outright treat another human being in that fashion is absolutely heartbreaking.Heartbreaking???
Not really, Smith played Muhammad freaking Ali. If Smith punched Rock (~5'9" 170lbs), Rock would have been carried off in a stretcher.Getzlaf15 said:Lol at saying the slap was less. It sounded like a fist, and it wasn't until a half hour after it happened in here that myself and another poster reported it was a slap. Until then, we all thought it was a fist.
Sad, she enjoys the violence but can't take a joke at her own expense.
He didn't swing to do damage. It was an act of discipline doled out by someone that felt he was superior than the other. It was meant as a public display of humiliation. Smith bullied a smaller man because he's so macho and needed to protect his damsel in distress.I haven't done the full TMZ on this, to me the slap looked like either Will didn't go full out to do max damage or almost went with a stage slap. He could have gone with a full windup. Is there anything to that? It was just my initial impression and jesus this thing took on a life of it's own since.
Even if true, I don't really knows what that changes. Dude was still way out of line to go on stage at all even if not taking a swing.
