If the Chargers are to have any chance, they need to run, run, and run some more. Use the run to set up play action to Gates/Chambers. If they try to get in a shootout, they will get destroyed.

They need to play their safeties deep, and blitz a linebacker on every down. They need to disrupt Brady's rhythm. They have the size in the middle of that D to stop the run.

Just wanted to wish Chargers fans good luck today. Youve had a great run this year, win or lose. Looking forward to a great game. No drinking and driving.

Congrats to the Chargers and their fans for a great season. Best accomplishment to date in Norv Turner's career.

Contrary to popular belief, the Chargers should not run, run, run. They should max protect and stretch the field with Chambers and Jackson who can beat Hobbs and Samuels on jump balls.

NE 34

SD 27

I know it is going to be cold. The wind is what will be huge. If it is windy, that definitely gives the Chargers an advantage, as we saw what windy weather did to the Patriots passing game back in the Jets game last month. If it does not affect the Pats passing game, forget about it...the Patriots will win by double digits.

Should be a great game, for both Patriot and Charger fans...glad I am going to be watching from home though!

I originally picked Pats 31, Chargers 20, but I am thinking it will be a lower scoring game than that.

If the Chargers lose by less than 10 points it will be the greatest suprise in playoff history. This is one of those 1 in 100 games in my opinion.

As has been said all year, the only way to beat the Pats is to slow down their offense. The only way to do that is to be able to get pressure on Brady without sending your safeties. A few teams, (Indy, Philly, Baltimore, and most of all the Giants) have been able to do this at times, but no one's been able to sustain it for even a half, much less a game. If you can't get pressure from your front four, Brady kills you. He either picks you apart with short passes if you choose to blanket the WRs, or he throws a long pass to the open WR if you try to blitz. And no one in NFL history is better at reading disguised coverages than Brady does.

The Chargers at least on paper have enough talent in their defensive line to penetrate, but since no one has, it's hard to believe they will be successful. Still, that's their only hope to make it a tight game.

Rivers was doubtful on the Chargers' injury report due to a right knee injury. The NFL Network is reporting that Rivers will start.

Patriots inactives:

WR Chad Jackson

CB Antwain Spann

OL Wesley Britt

OL Billy Yates

WR Troy Brown

DL Le Kevin Smith

QB Matt Gutierrez (3rd QB)

S Mel Mitchell

Let's predict something else:

At what point in the game will they focus cameras on LT sitting on the bench pouting and talk about how frustrated he looks? I'll go 7:10 left in the 2nd quarter. I love LT but one thing he doesn't do well is lose, his body language is awful for team morale since he's supposed to be their leader.

Chargers inactives:

CB Cletis Gordon

CB Paul Oliver

LB Anthony Waters

WR Malcom Floyd

TE Scott Chandler

DT Brandon McKinney

K Dave Rayner

QB Charlie Whitehurst (3rd QB)

No Gates, Rivers, or LT2. All going (or at least active).

That would indicate that Hobbs is healthy enough to return kickoffs, which will help the starting field position for NE.Of course, SD will have to score to allow Hobbs' returns to help. :lmao:

I agree that the wind and to a lesser degree the cold helps SD. SD lives off of turnovers and throwing the ball in the cold and wind could easily lead to an INT or two. That combined with a strong SD running game and strong front seven leads me to believe this game will be very close. I don't understand or agree with those predicting a NE blowout. NE 27SD 20

While I'd love to see a Chargers win today (life long Boltz fan) I just don't think it's gonna happen with the injuries, heck, even 100% it would be HARD. That said, if the Chargers lost by only seven I could live with that. If the Chargers lose by 27 (which could happen) then I'm gonna be pretty bummed. Come on LT, we need you to run HARD today.

The guy I'm worried about in this game is a former Charger. Not Seau or Harrison -- but Wes Welker. I think Cromartie and Jammer can match up fine with the Pats' receivers (including Moss) on the outside, but that will leave Drayton Florence in the slot against Welker. That's a very bad matchup for San Diego because Welker will get open underneath and then he can get plenty of yards after the catch. I'd rather see Weddle on Welker than Florence, but either way it will be tough to get everyone covered. (If the Chargers move Cromartie inside on Welker -- as they did one time last week against the Colts -- Moss or Stallworth will beat Florence on the outside like Anthony Gonzalez did last week.)

Merriman and Phillips and Castillo will need to generate pressure.
