***Official AFC Championship Game Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Wasn't the spread 14? Lots of gamblers very nervous right about now.
yeah...last week the Pats would have covered if they didn't miss that 35 yd field goal...
Not necessarily. When the Jags kicked that FG down 28-17 to make it 28-20, they probably would have gone for the TD had they been down 31-17. The rest of the game would have played out a bit differently.Congrats to the Patriots.

I thought the Chargers had a very good gameplan on both sides of the ball. But they couldn't punch it in in four chances. It was the goal line stands for NE that made the difference.

Could have done a better job on the last drive. No need to completely abandon the run there....

Will be interesting to find out who made the decision to sit LT all game. Hard to believe he couldn't have been a factor if he was 90% like he said Saturday.

I know we will here that if LT was in the game, it would be a different story. I give Rivers a ton of credit today...I can't imagine playing hurt like that.

I give credit to the Pats defense for holding strong and not giving up TDs instead of FGs.

Tough game, awesome effort Chargers.

Good season Chargers!

I wonder if Tomlinson will ever get a chance to play in the Supe. These "windows" generally close quick so I sure hope so. He's entertained me so much and given such an effort over the years, I wish he could.

Patriot fans showing their lack of class by booing the Chargers when Kraft thanked them for coming to the game and getting beaten. No class at all.

Nice booing of the Chargers there. That was the loudest the Pats fans were all day. Terrible, terrible, terrible. I wish this team was in San Diego, Utah, or Cuba. They'd be a lot easier to like.

Mmmmm. Punt?J
They conceded the game right there. They let the Pats have that good or better field position all day but when they need two scores with 11 minutes left they punt from the Pats' 37? I just don't get it. Poor coaching decision.
With 9 minutes left. Not sure why on 3rd down they didn't try a draw play?Thats what I was thinking.Of course go for it on 4th.But as a NE fan, Norv did do the correct thing. :D

Any boo is poor sportsmanship and it's quite common.Boos for the opposition seem pretty normal in a stadium, this doesn't seem so out of the ordinary for any team's fans in any sport.I would agree not at that time but...I'm not there "in the moment".

That makes sense before the game, during the game, after the game (if you lost)After the game, when you win a close, tough one......hmmmmmm.......

They are the worst fans in the NFL, without a doubt.
I don't like a lot of fan groups but Boston fans have now officially entered the English Soccer Fan tier only achieved previously by Ohio State football fans and Pakistani cricket fans. Take a picture Boston, it is worth a thousand words.

Good game, Pats. You found a way to win even though the offense wasn't clicking for most of the game.
They found a way to win? Other than the first 5 minutes, they were leading the entire game
Nice humility dude. Did you watch the game. It was a close one...
Yes it was a close one...but to say they found a way to win infers they eked it out in the final seconds or something, they were in control for 60 minutes.I know your a Charger :D but you're confused about the use of the word humility as well. Also, I would add I am a Charger hater, and a Broncos fan. The Patriots unclassiness is 2nd only to the Chargers in my OPINION.
I felt like they held it together just enough and were already to implode but didn't. Brady made the best of a bad day. Next game, maybe, he'll face another guy that knows how to make the best of a bad day in Brett Favre.

Who knows if the Chargers will make it back to the AFC Championship game again? It's not an easy road to get there. But this same team will have a few more shots at it. Every starter or key backup other than Michael Turner, Drayton Florence, and Mike Goff is signed through at least 2009. And there's plenty of cap space to keep extending guys beyond that.

"Hats off" to Rivers and Turner today. I haven't looked at the stats yet but I thought they were impressive. Turner probably earned himself a little bigger contract today.

IMO the Chargers DL was exceptionally tough and at times were probably wonderring "Can we get a little help here?" Charger LBers didn't get it done on a number of plays today.

Heath Evans put in an awesome performance, hopefully someone else noticed his blocks.

Are you sure it wasn't the Charger fans at the game booing there team?It does seem like it is becoming more common with the booing of other teams...

I think they might. I think at some point Rivers may have to shoulder more of the load but with Chambers and Vincent improving, he looks like he can do just that.IMO They don't have alot of holes to fill.

Congrats to the Chargers and their fans for a great season. Best accomplishment to date in Norv Turner's career.Contrary to popular belief, the Chargers should not run, run, run. They should max protect and stretch the field with Chambers and Jackson who can beat Hobbs and Samuels on jump balls.
New England wins here of course but man are those Charger receivers wide open. Very interesting. NFC team will enjoy this game film.J
Samuels is a ball hawk and Hobbs is good at stripping the ball, but the Pats can definitely be passed on (see, for example, Week 17).Fortunately, while opposing offenses can count on converting 50% of their possessions into TDs by exploiting this weakness (in warm weather such as Arizona), the Patriots can be counted on to convert 75% of their possessions into TDs in Arizona.Oversimplistic? Of course, but it's directionally correct, and this is the problem that the Patriots present.
