Nucky referred to this in his getaway with Eddie. He hired goons to protect him once Owen showed up, but they were already on the take for Gyp/Masseria. Hence the easy access Gyp had to the Ritz, and the narrow miss that resulted therefrom.

I'm not sure we're going to see Harrow become Nucky's muscle or even join his side. Looks to me like Harrow is about to start his own private war.

Agree. His adversary is Gillian in this war, so I doubt he even sees Gyp in the finale. He wants the boy so ultimately Harrow and Gillian will face off over the boy. One will have to go. I have a feeling the show's creators would kill off Harrow before Gillian, so I'm guessing Harrow dies saving the boy. I hope I'm wrong as I despise Gillian, except when she's nekkid, but I can see it playing out this way.

Harrow is starting his own private war, I agree, but I don't think it's with Gillian, as much as we would like that. Harrow looks at all these guys in the house as a real problem. He probably figured out he couldn't take the kid away from the house and kidnap him, but he sure as hell can clean out all of Gyp's men. Also, no matter how much he despises Gillian, he won't orphan the boy. He also wouldn't need to arm himself quite as thoroughly as he did just to take out Gillian. I think his plan us to completely clean out all of Gyp's men, and in that process, I bet he and Nucky join forces.By the way, how about the interesting dynamic if Harrow takes out Gyp in the process of cleaning out that house -- probably saving Gillian in the process. She then becomes indebted to him forever, and if he lives, the tables turn, and maybe between that and Harrow's newfound allegiance with Nucky, he starts his own rise to power in AC...

Would love to see Harrow have his day in the sun and rise to a position of power. Especially if it puts Gillian in his pocket. Something about him finding love with the woman whose name eacapes me screams tragedy, though.I like your version much better! Here's to Harrow's House of Pleasure, with Gilllian naked each week.

Well Jimmy did try to kill Nucky first. I think that's what Harrow meant by the whole soldier thing. Harrow probably doesn't blame him.

Well Jimmy did try to kill Nucky first. I think that's what Harrow meant by the whole soldier thing. Harrow probably doesn't blame him.

This was covered in Bone for Tuna. Harrow was avenging Angela.

Concerned that Harrow would target him because he had killed Jimmy, Nucky is relieved to discover that Richard had only planned to avenge Angela, noting that Jimmy "was a soldier. He fought. He lost." Dealing with his demons, Nucky wondered if Harrow ever thought about any of the people he had killed. "You know the answer to that yourself," was the response from the World War I sharpshooter. Drawing on the emotion of Harrow's backstory and Nucky's internal struggle over shooting Jimmy, this was a powerful scene that established the neutral relationship between the two.

I know it was covered, but it seems like Harrow wouldn't fall into hardcore loyalty for the guy he knows pulled the trigger on his best friend, regardless of circumstance. Theirs would be a marriage of convenience based on a shared foe, those types of relationships are tenuous at best. That's why I think it could be interesting - it gives the writers a lot of different ways they could go with it without the viewer questioning motive too strongly.

Fantastic episode. Only things missing were Steven Root and Van Alden. Seeing this much Chalky just makes me more disappointed they didn't have more scenes with him previously this season. I hope he makes it through the finale, but I'm doubtful. Seems like he'll be a give up to keep Capone with Nucky somehow as they were showing a lot of tension between Chalky's guys and Capone's guys in the preview. It'd be too clean to let him make it through and establish his nightclub. It kinda sucks that you know some of these guys can't exit the show until certain points. It just makes the fate of the non-historial figures a when, not an if.

I'm thinking I want to see more Lansky too, which I guess should be happening in subsequent seasons. That guy's been doing a very good, understated acting job.

Also, I don't think Buscemi has gotten enough credit for his work in this here in this thread. It's not an easy role he's playing - he's the central figure, yet almost bland in comparison with the cast of characters around him most of the time. Despite that, he plays the intensity of what's going on perfectly without going over the top.

Looking forward to the last episode of the season - then its a long winter until Game Of Thrones starts up again.

The show is based around bootlegging, which is an inherently dangerous trade. I don't know why this is so hard to understand. It's not like Parks and Rec. keeps killing off its best characters.

So essentially, you'll defend every poor decision by chalking it up to "violence happens all the time and therefore is realistic."Here's a positive thing I'll say: look at Gyp's boss. We've only seen him talking, mostly, but he's easily as menacing as Gyp without all that cliche violence.

Untill the most recent episodes, those great characters were either barely on the show or without any real interconnected storylines. Last episode was great because we finally are seeing these great characters' storylines converging. Can't wait for next Sunday! Who does Gyp? Capone? Nucky? Richard? Gillian?

I haven't been in this thread in a while because I was a few episodes behind. I finally caught up this weekend and this AM.

Most of this season has been a



And Gyp is the worst character I can recall in a show I actually like.

Now with that being said, this last episode was the best of the season. I kept waiting for the writers to bring New York even closer to the AC story and they sort of did that, but bringing Chicago into the fold plus bringing the "other side AKA Chalky" into the forefront of the story might just save this show yet. As an added bonus they finally got Van Alden in front of Al.

Looking forward to a big finish next week.

I kept waiting for the writers to bring New York even closer to the AC story and they sort of did that, but bringing Chicago into the fold plus bringing the "other side AKA Chalky" into the forefront of the story might just save this show yet. As an added bonus they finally got Van Alden in front of Al. Looking forward to a big finish next week.

Yes to all of this. Gyp is a terrible, one-note-Johnny character. Contrast Gyp with his boss - a character that is very intimidating despite not having committed one act of on-screen violence.

I haven't been in this thread in a while because I was a few episodes behind. I finally caught up this weekend and this AM.

Now with that being said, this last episode was the best of the season. Put me in that small group (very small) that love this character. He's a psycho comedic gangster with a gun and I can't wait to see him die!

Were this real life, Chalky would have absolutely given up Nucky. He always treated Chalky like crap, being dismissive and talking down to him.

I dont agree. I think if you look at the upside of what Chalky can get out of this it is going to be higher with Nucky than anyone else because they already have a relationship established. You think there is any way any of the other players would give him Babette's old spot? No way.
