Was wondering this too when they had the gun on the little kid. I suppose in part there could be an involuntary muscle twitch reaction with your hand if your finger is already on the trigger?

But putting the gun down and then doing the trick-shot was, presumably, to give his bullet the element of surprise. Even though telling the kid to close his eyes ruins any said element of surprise. I dunno. Maybe Myth Busters can figure this out.I thought a lot of this episode was pretty good, but quite a bit of it seemed like "fan service" (Nucky fighting with Al, Harrow COD spree, etc.)

Also, and I realize this opinion won't be popular, I think they should've pulled a Pine Barrens with Gyp. As ridiculous a character as he is, having the spectre of him possibly returning hanging over the rest of the show would've been great. And his death seemed like such a given, maybe it would've been better to zig instead of zag.
And logically, wouldn't one just hightail it the f out of Dodge and go into hiding?

The dude was nuts, very little logical about him - which made him unpredictable yet predictable, if that makes any sense.But yeah, it might have been more interesting to keep him around in some capacity, particularly after Masseria gave him up. Maybe he's not totally dead?

Probably that Nucky swung a deal with Rothstein which in turn convinced Masseria to pull 75% of the muscle backing Gyp.

He knew if those guys were leaving that he got backdoored by Nucky and Masseria wasn't protecting him anymore. That meant it was only a matter of time before the hit squad showed up. Unfortunately for him, there was a 1man hit squad arriving first. I wonder what Harrow's plan was when there were 60 guys guarding the place? Or was he watching and waiting for a moment, saw all the cars pulling out and then ran to action?/

Took me a while to figure out why Mellon would help Nucky out again, after already arresting Remus....but I guess Nucky convinced him that AR really did muscle his way into Mellons factory and demanded 99%....since Nucky promised something he couldn't give AR in the first place. Pretty smooth.

I'll go out on a limb here and say the whole final episode was a little unsatisfying. It was good, don't get me wrong. But the build up from the prior few episodes was epic. Was going to be hard to meet my expectations I guess.

It seems to be a pattern with this show, as with many others. The second to last episode was amazing and it's just a little tough to follow up with it in the finale. Still a great episode though.

Good point. The guy (whatever his name is) with the knife could have staged the whole thing and then lied to Nucky about Gyp really being dead. Easy way for Gyp to get out of Jersey and make a comeback.

It seems like for the first time since Jimmy was killed this show is back on track. I wish they didnt beat around the bush as much as they did for the first half a season, but they did rebound nicely. I think season 4 could be very good.

I'm still struggling with the Mellon motivation, too. When Nucky first introduced himself to Mellon a few episodes ago, Mellon treated him like a clump of dog-**** stuck on his shoe, only to later give him use of his distillery in PA.Why would Mellon now implicate AR in using the distillery at Nucky's behest? What did Nucky have at that moment to convince Mellon to do this? Surely it had to be more than AR had muscled in - Mellon could probably just hook up with AR, then. Not to mention Nucky would look like an incompetent buffoon in Mellon's eyes.Admittedly, I had trouble following some of the plot-lines this episode with the heroin/lucky/Messeria/AR thing and why Nucky was turning over 99% of the distillery to AR. They skipped over a lot of back story and potentially interesting stuff IMO. Did you consider keeping Gyp Rosetti (Bobby Cannavale) around for season 4? He was definitely entertaining.

The tendency is to want to go through some writer gymnastics to see if there’s any way he gets away and comes back, even if it goes against the story logic. It became apparent that Gyp was just this monster who had to die. Even if we kept him alive into season four, he’d have to die very shortly into the new season anyway. We figured it would be a much more powerful way to end the season to have him killed in the finale.
