***Official*** Borderlands 2 Thread (1 Viewer)

I love BL2 particularly the co-op mode. Does anyone have recommendations for other games that have high quality co-op modes? I know Left 4 Dead 2 has a very good one and Far Cry 3 has one but it seems relatively small compared to the single player campaign.

Any others that are highly regarded?
Bump ziggity.Serious Sam HD?

F.E.A.R. 3?

Brink?

ArmA II?

Any of those any good?

I do little to no co-op, but my son and I did enjoy Army of Two. It's sort of old now, can probably be had cheap. The new one is supposed to be good when it comes out, but that won't help now. We played it both split screen and on separate machines.

Anyone play Aliens: Colonial Marines? The reviews were garbage but they just put out a 4 GB patch for PC, which sounds like a major overhaul. I am hoping the patch changes opinions because that seems like a universe with a lot of potential.

It looked interesting in the trailers, but seeing actual gameplay footage it looks terrible. Haven't heard anything about the patch though. As much as I am enjoying Borderlands 2, there are so many bugs and glitches that piss me off that it makes me hesitant to buy another Gearbox franchise.

Yeah one of the principle complaints re: Aliens is that the graphics in the actual game were much worse than what was promised in the trailers. A lot of the patch looks designed to address that. What platform are you playing BL2 on? I play on a PC and seldom have an issue with bugs, (one time Handsome Jack got stuck which made him far to easy to kill) but other than that I haven't really had a bug problem,

I am on PS3. Everywhere you look in a public game there are idiots doing the Evil Smasher glitch, and the one that really irks me is when the orange loot gets stuck under the Warrior. The other thing I find annoying is that it is nearly impossible to join a public game without having the DLC. It lists the games available, I try to join, and it takes a few minutes to load me into the game only to kick me out and tell me that I need to buy the DLC. For a game that encourages co-op play, I find this to be unacceptable.

Yeah, they need to fix the evil smasher glitch.

Having said that, I have no idea how to kill veramorphous without it (the stalker thing with the chief).

I've been with four lvl 50s and incredible gear and still get destroyed.

So checking the BL wiki the Evil Smasher glitch is kind of a game breaker, that right? Why not just play with people who don't exploit it?

I don't, it's just annoying having to deal with it.

I guess, but since it's co-op and not head-to-head I don't really see a problem with the glitch. Some groups want to use it, just don't play with them and it's not a problem.

Tomorrow a major update is rolling out increasing the level cap to 61 and fixing a bunch of major glitches (Evil Smasher included). A new weapon class is also being added that's supposed to be really powerful.

As far as I can tell, the only way to get to the level cap is to enter ultimate vault hunter mode and replay the main story. I have no desire to do this. Already played it twice and parts of it are not at all fun and very tedious.

I'd like the new weapons and increased level cap (with more skill points) to take a run at the toughest bosses, but I just don't see the appeal of playing through a 3rd time (especially by myself).

Looks like this thread is pretty dead, but I had a quick question regarding the treasure box.

Are the weapons you get with the golden keys related to the level you are when you open it? Because I have a crapload of keys but don't want to use them all now if I can get better stuff later

Yup. It's level dependent. I wouldnt go hoarding keys though. You get some nice lvl 50 weapons from the box, but you can good stuff anywhere. Might as well hit the box every few levels to see if you can find a mid game gem.

Looking forward to the new DLC. I've got more than enough legendary weapons (all lvl 50 :( ) as I had to drop/sell some, so it will be nice to kind of restart at lvl 50 and max out at 60 by doing the new DLC. I hope you don't have to start at the lvl 30 crap the first time and then play it again to max out your level.

This. The keys are much better on the way to maxing out your level than they are at max level since you start accumulating legendaries at that point.

thinking of giving this a spin on my laptop. i loved the first. i mean, really, it might be a top 3 kind of game for me. anyone tried it on PC?

It is far better, particularly with its sense of humor, than the first one and the first one was awesome.

I only game on PC and I have put in over 400 hours on it. Co-op mode, interesting character classes and solid DLCs really increase the replay value.

I really wish there were more co-op games of this quality.

Nope. Should I? Metacritic scores are kinda meh to bad.

Yep, I just finished BL1 and while it is really fun, I think BL2 improved on it in almost every way. I take breaks for other games, but I keep finding myself coming back to BL2.

New Halloween DLC came out this week for Borderlands 2. I think it is only a few hours of game play but could be fun if your looking for a Borderlands fix. I think they raised the level cap to 71 as well.

Yup. It's just such a good game to pick up and either replay some missions, try out a new character type, or the best option is to find some new people to play with.

And the DLCs are really well done too, for the most part, Hammerlock's is probably the toughest and Torgue is just hysterical. Captain Scarlet was a good blend of both and I haven't finished Tiny Tina's yet, but it is about the same but even funnier (it's tough to choose a favorite NPC but Tina is right up there).

And then there are the Raid bosses which are just awesome battles on their own.

My biggest complaint with BL2 is that legendary treasure NEVER drops, like EVER, after 400 hours I had maybe two legendary drops and it was frustrating as hell. Not to mention the fact that my shields, and a lot of my health, were still getting one shotted by random bandits. WTF is that all about? I killed Willhelm, Bloodwing, Dukino's Mom, Old Slappy, Saturn, BNKR, Handsome Jack, The Warrior, Badassasaurus, Jackenstein, Roscoe & The Leviathan. I am the biggest bad ### on Pandora not these random bandit monkeys and I deserve to be equipped to reflect that. So I said #### it and picked up the Gibbed Save Editor, I figure that I have put in my time and I deserve it.

Interestingly enough (or is it more like a black fly in my chardonnay?) the Dead Island series just went on Steam sale for 75% off the original ($4.99) and 66% off Riptide ($10.19) .

Should I?

Should I?

Or, since I have a pretty large backlog of games, should I wait for he winter or spring sale because they will likely hit the same, or even bigger, discounts?

This is why I said BL2 improves on BL1 in almost every way. I have hundred of hours in myself and had never found a legendary from a random mob until last night. Found a lvl 66 Sledge's Shotgun (slag) in a chest on the way to BNKR and then I joined my friends game in TVHM to mess around with him, and trash mobs drop 2 legendaries within 10 minutes (Flakker and class mod). Neither were anything special, but it was exciting.

I also just downloaded Gibbed a few days ago since I heard you can sync your current gear to your level. Not too interested in killing BNKR another 200 times for a Sham

Exactly. I got tired of hearing about The Bee and the Conference Call and felt I deserved to try them out...although you haven't lived until you have rocked a Florentine SMG.

Since you are considering going Gibbed here are some recommendations:

I pretty much ignore non-elemental and fire elemental. Fire is nice but too many opponents are either shielded or armored so it becomes a hassle to switch out. Slag really gains value in UVHM but otherwise it is just too inconvenient to use in single player* (*see Florentine) and unless you are really coordinated with your team it doesn't add much to co-op. Shock is my favorite, especially with a Mecromancer build, but explosive is probably the best "catch-all" element to go with.

Weapons:

Shotgun: Conference Call, Butcher or Interfacer (high rate of fire, damage, reload & accuracy)

Pistol: IMO nothing beats an Unkempt Harold (the Double Penetrating at long range is impressive but at close range it's simply devastating)

SMG: There are other options to be sure but the Florentine is unbelievable (It's the only dual elemental weapon in the game. Shock and slag damage? are you kidding me?)

Sniper: I am a DPS guy so Vladoff or Dahl are my favs. I would go with a Lyuda or a Railer. If you play a Zero then you may have different considerations.

Assault Rifle: ARs offer the most versatile options. Shreddifier, Veruc or Hail. The Lance (or Spitter) is great for an explosive AR. I particularly like the Hail for Gaige because it really mitigates the accuracy penalty when your anarchy stacks build up.

Launcher: There are other solid options but when you absolutely, positively want to kill every last ###### ###### in the room go with a Badaboom.

Grenade: For my money there is no better grenade than Miss Moxxi's Kiss of Death. It's high a damage homing, sticky, transfusion grenade that spawns child grenades and comes in each elemental variation.

Shields:

The Bee is great for Raid bosses, and it can basically turn you into a one-shot kill machine on every other enemy. But as soon as you take a hit, even a minor one, it mitigates the value. Two other options I really like are The Antagonist (it might be my favorite shield) or the Impaler (a must for missions with lots of corrosive susceptible enemies).

Relic:

Depending on your play style it's either the Blood of the Seraph or the Breath of the Seraph

Those options are all awesome and you should jump all over them but if you want to become the biggest bad ### possible (with a capitat B-A-D) then go with the Legendary X mod (Legendary Commando, Legendary Siren, Legendary Sniper etc) and respec to make sure you have at least one point in each bonus category. It gives you a bonus up to +5 in 5 or 6 categories depending on your character class. It will turn you into a game breaking killing machine. Every other option I suggested will make you a serious bad ### but the Legendary class mods make the game almost too easy, but after 400 hours you really feel like you deserve every easy kill. And the Raid bosses are still challenging, but they feel more like you are a Raid Boss battling another Raid Boss, which is the way it should be.

never heard of the Florentine....I think almost every slot and storage space I have is a legendary of some type. I guess I need to move past level 50...I can't remember its been 6 months since I played.

Interesting, I tend to ignore seraph items since I've never found one I particularly care for, and hadn't heard of the florentine. I play Axton with dual slag turrets though, so slag tends not to be a problem for me. Some of the weapons I like assorted by class:

Shotgun: Butcher, Purple Casual Ravager (really fun to dual-wield on Sal)

Pistol: DPUH, Hornet (best gun in the game for armored enemies), Redundant Fibber (melts bosses with Bee Shield)

SMG: #####, Tediore or Maliwan Plasma Casters, Slagga

Sniper: Pimpernel (easily best sniper in game), Lyuda (more of an AR), Pitchfork (you'll be out of ammo in 30 seconds though)

AR: Dahl Purple Miniguns

Launcher: Norfleet, Badaboom

Grenades depend on the situation. I like the Quasar, Slag Bouncing Bonnie, Fire Bee, Meteor Shower

Shields: Bee is a must for bosses, but I prefer the Sham for all other situations.

Relic: Sheriffs Badge

Class Mod: Can't go wrong with Legendary class mods, but the Chaotic Evil Monk mod for Sal is really fun to kill raid bosses with.

Dead Island is pretty much Borderlands set in a zombie apocalypse on a tropical island. Mostly melee weapons instead of guns. Has the same color coding for weapon quality, same sorts of stats, etc. Has a few other differences

I'm surprised it got low ratings. Everyone I know who played them loved them. We had a blast in multiplayer. The sequel is a lot better in that regard. The first one... if you were level 5 and went into the game of a level 30, then you were fighting level 30 zombies, which was pretty much impossible for you to do much to help. Though it was great for power leveling since you get XP for breaking limbs and if your level 30 buddy knocked a zombie down you could punch his limbs to break them for awhile before he'd die. It was still fun long as you had people around your own level though.

The second one was much, much better at multiplayer as you can mix levels freely since it scales the monster to whoever is viewing it. Everyone feels like they are fighting everything at their own level. If I hit a zombie for half of the health of a zombie my level, everyone sees him at half health regardless of their level. It also did a better job of letting you complete quests for your game regardless of whether it was single or multi-player in which you did it.

Butcher is a great shotgun, Ravager is okay but if you're not at close range the accuracy really hurts for damage.

You can't beat the DPUH for a pistol. Hornet is a fine pistol but can't touch the DPUH. Not sure why you like the Fibber, all the listed stats are a lie so you never know quite what you are getting.

SMG: Florentine is a Plasma Caster with the benefit of being dual slag & shock. Slagga is the perfect DPS gun, might be the best UVHM weapon in the game but with Axton and the dual slag turrets it doesn't provide much benefit on anything below UVHM.

Sniper: Pimpernel is great if you don't mind the fire rate. If you like the Pimpernel, try the Storm it also has awesome area of effect bonuses.

AR: No complaints about the minigun, particularly because you are instantly at the highest fire rate, but I think you get more bang for your buck with a shreddifier. I could be wrong with that. You definitely get the best options with the AR. Play with the hail for awhile, it takes awhile to figure out the firing range and it's not quite as good for single bosses but when you have groups of enemies you just can't go wrong with it. It's a fun gun to just mix it up with.

Launcher: Norfleet was the other one I would suggest.

Grenades: love the Quasar. it's just a fun grenade. Meteor shower is okay too but a clear step down from the Quasar IMO. But IMO no grenade gives the extra bonus whammies like the Kiss of Death.

Shield: A sham is great for the absorb. I find that, while running out of ammo certainly can be a bother, it isn't a deal breaker. Besides when I play co-op my gunzerker friend has a team bullet regen class mod so it is redundant.

Relic: You must use pistols a lot to give true value to the Sheriff's badge. With Axton, who I have played the most with, I find that if you have the Do Or Die skill in the gunpowder tree you don't need additional FFYL time.

If you go legendary with the mod it is kind of a game breaker. I think choosing one without going that direction is the most fun. I like the Engineer mod myself, especially if I am playing solo because the turret is just too valuable in that situation. But there are certainly plenty of options when choosing mods.

Such an awesome game.

It is far better, particularly with its sense of humor, than the first one and the first one was awesome.

I only game on PC and I have put in over 400 hours on it. Co-op mode, interesting character classes and solid DLCs really increase the replay value.

I really wish there were more co-op games of this quality.
Have you played Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide?
Nope. Should I? Metacritic scores are kinda meh to bad.

Is it multiplayer or co-op?

Yep, I just finished BL1 and while it is really fun, I think BL2 improved on it in almost every way. I take breaks for other games, but I keep finding myself coming back to BL2.

Agreed. I have played the most hours as Axton, but that is mostly because when I started my "team" already had a siren, assassin and a gunzerker so it made the most sense. I have also put in significant time in solo play as an assassin and a mechromancer, I have never played as a siren, gunzerker and don't even have the psycho DLC. Of the characters I have put in significant time with I think I like Gaige the best, except for when she screams after taking elemental damage (really, really annoying).

Not sure I can muster another playthrough but I think the siren seems like a very interesting character with her skill tree options.

I have level 50+ on all non-DLC characters, and I like Axton and Salvador the best. Nothing like dual-wielding DPUHs and running right into the mobs.

The players are all playing people who are immune to the zombie virus.

The game is exactly like Borderlands in most regards, just the setting and weapons and monsters differ. You can choose from one of four or five different characters just like Borderlands. Each gets skill/perk points they can spend on abilities which differ by character, in the same exact 3-tree structure that Borderlands have. You pick up the same kind of quests from NPCs in the world. You can do them collectively in co-op, or you can even just run off on your own if you choose.

Hi friends. I'm late to the party on this game, got it for xmas but currently on my 2nd playthrough and loving it.

Does anyone on 360 want to give their BFF Ahrn some level 46-50 orange or purple loot?

Great game and I would drop you all my gear but sorry PS3.

The only thing I would say is if you like 2 and haven't played one play it. The game play is a little rougher around the edges but the stories are a little better in my opinion, although Handsome Jack may be my favorite all time bad guy.

You pick up the same kind of quests from NPCs in the world. You can do them collectively in co-op, or you can even just run off on your own if you choose.
I picked this up used for $5 a while ago based on this endorsement, and the game is nowhere near as good as BL2. Yea the loot system is similar, but the gameplay is tedious and the controls are sloppy and frustrating. Can't even get my co-op buddy to pick the game back up after only an hour of play.

I did play B1 but got stuck at around a level 25 and frustrated, and then I never went back to it. There were several nights of FBG silliness in B1 with Team ACP, Otis, Harry Manback and others.
