It seems as the umps call of infield fly caused the SS to back off as well.
What game are you watching?
Holliday said post-game that Kozma thought he heard someone call him off .... it certainly could have been the umpire's voice, as his hand was going up at the same time.Which game were you watching?

Way to hustle on your last ever at bat there, Larry.
No kidding. That was the most pathetic thing I've ever seen. After 19 years of HoF ball, you're going to half-### it to first with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th in a post-season single elimination game? Are you f###ing kidding me!? I was suprised the announcers didn't mention it at all.He was actually out. The only thing that saved him from a retirement's worth of regretting that lack of hustle was yet another bad call by an umpire.

This would make sense why he actually backed off. He clearly was calling for it and Holliday wasn't calling him off at all.

I'd like to hear what Kozma has to say, but IMO if the ump doesn't make any call there, I think Kozma catches. I think the ump's voice threw Kozma off, and he thought it was Holliday calling him off.

Don't agree with these announcers ripping Atlanta fans for throwing crap onto the field. They're not throwing it at players or umpires. They're tossing trash onto the field as a protest. Totally legitimate move by the fans to express their displeasure.
:lmao: You can't be serious?
 It was a bull#### call. I have no problem with fans tossing trash onto the field. Why do you?
You sound like the Philly fans I hate, you'd fit right in around here.
:lmao: Yeah, there's no difference between this and tossing batteries at Santa.
Oh COOL!!! They're throwing more trash at the Cardinals as they run off the field. GOOD FOR THEM!!! :lmao: And it was snowballs thrown at a drunk Santa, and he deserved it, Santa was drunk. Batteries were tossed at JD Drew, he may have deserved it.
:lmao: :lmao:
Santa wasn't drunk - that's a myth. He was young and skinny though.

You all must not watch many Braves games. Chipper's knees are completely shot. He's going full speed there, it's just that full speed for Chipper is slow as hell.

boohoo win the division
Ummm my team is not in the playoffs and you'd be crying like a hoe if the Yanks lost like that to a team 6 games worse.

That's fine, but only 3 teams in baseball had more wins than the Braves this year and they got thrust into this stupid crapshoot. Not really fair IMO but everybody knew the stakes before the game started I guess.

Dang, surely a bad call on the infield fly rule - 3 errors from a team that was ridiculously good on defense the entire year is a pretty big story as well. The Braves hit better and pitched better but their defense abandoned them in a do or die game. Not sure why the hate toward the Cardinals though unless the ump was on their payroll. Ultimately this won't matter other than it make the path for the Nationals easier and the Red/Giants tougher to get to the NLCS.

One other thing I don't get is the logic that because Atlanta was 6 games better then it was a travesty. How often does the best record win the championship? If that were the determining factor then an underdog would never win. The rules were in place, both team knew the rules and the outcome was decided in the format that was put before them. Both home teams lost in the new format. I think it should be a best of three at a minimum, but that is not what MLB decided to do.

Shame that a HOF career ended like that - but Braves fans should be embarassed by their temper tantrum. Dirty, dirty city and horrible fans.

:goodposting: When that call was made, I was like, "Wow, the Cardinals just got a major break." I didn't think the Infield Fly should have been called there. Can we call this the Cardinals karma for Denkinger, 27 years later? ;) Braves fans really did embarrass the hell out of themselves.
Terrible call. No different than what we saw with the Packers and the Seahawks.
:lmao:

The one game playoff is stupid. Gives too much of an opportunity for some kind of weird variance to determine the outcome. These teams worked too hard to get to this point.

What really would have sucked is if Baltimore and NY have tied, then have to play a one game playoff to determine division winner, followed by the loser playing a one game play in game to move on. That totally screws up the pitching staff for the wildcard team in this case, having to burn two pitchers before moving on.

Okay, but that is the whole idea: the wild card teams should be at more of a disadvantage than they were before.

It not only gives an advantage to the division champ who gets the wildcard team but also theoretically gives advantage to the other wildcard team in the play in game. I hear what you are saying to some extant but I still think baseball has always thrived on it's series format and it's not like there are a ton of teams that make the playoffs. If you were good enough to win the one wildcard spot, then you shouldn't be punished that much either.

There have been teams with the 3rd best record not even make the playoffs plenty of times and even more cases where teams won more games than the 2012 Braves. I don't think the Braves should feel cheated at all for having to win another game. Heck, the Reds had a season where they had the best record in the league and didn't even make the playoffs. I don't really see how 1 game is that much less of a crapshoot than 3 or 5 games. It's all an incredibly small sample size when it comes to baseball.
