***OFFICIAL CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS PLAYOFF THREAD*** (1 Viewer)

Honestly, if they keep relying on the pokecheck instead of actually hitting someone then they can forget about a long run. Calgary targeted Havlat for the past two games and while I don't expect someone to drop the gloves and create a penalty, someone needs to tee off on Phaneuf or one of their other top guys. I am happy about the wins but I think they just got by. It's time to play physical or forget about going anywhere deep in the playoffs
:lmao: Outhit 2 to 1 and basically got owned tonight.

I don't know about intimidated but they didn't match Calgary's physical play. You are right in that Game 4 will be nasty.

They will be fine. I rather see them make the Flames pay on the powerplay then get suckered into their style. #88 back on Wed and a better power play= :goodposting:  Flames.

Very disappointing. Before the playoffs started I entertained the thought that they might have a slim chance to go all the way. Now it appears they are still a year or two away. Even if they manage to win this series which they should have dominated they will likely get pasted in the second round. Glad to see them in the playoffs but wish they could play like they belonged.

lol @ Hawks fans already jumping off the bandwagon. You only need to win 2 out of 3 and the Flames are much worse on the road than at home.

Chicago is extremely young, they are still a few years away from contending with the NHL's best, imo. With that being said, Toews will be, if he isn't already, one of the best leaders in the NHL, and I'll be shocked if he doesn't lead his team two a few titles over the next 15 years.

If I was a Hawks fan I would be very encouraged that they were able to come back and almost win a game they had no business being in after all the early defensive lapses, turnovers, and poor goaltending. Calgary could have stepped on their throats after going up 4-1, but the Hawks clawed their way back in with an awesome effort from their 3rd line and almost pulled it off. They're a young team in a very tough place to play, it shows a lot that they were able to make a game out of it despite the mistakes. If they are even marginally better on Friday and get anywhere close to the same play out of their 3rd line, they should take control of the series in game 5.

Friday :banned: would be nice , but I'm more concerned with the play on Saturday. The thing that concern me the most yesterday was always change lines after the puck was dropped to try and match up. It looks like there was way too much coaching going on last night, but I'm only a fan so what do I know.

2 things I am worried about. The first two games the only reason they win those games IMO is Khabi. The last two games he has been lit up, Game 3 not so much his fault as the D was horrible, but last night was giving up HUGE rebounds and just not playing well IMO. The other thing that concerns me is the D, the Flames are crossing the blue line at will with absolutely no contention by the Hawks. They are getting not pinched to the boards or stood up, but just skate through us seemingly at will. That's why I am very worried about this series.

Whoops, thought it was Friday.Home team has last change. That's how matchups have to be played on the road and matchups are important against a team that relies heavily on its top line for scoring.

I disagree strongly that the only reason they won the first two games was goaltending, but I agree that he was brutal last night and has to improve. Rebounds were terrible.

They are a good young team, and they didn't give up being down by 3. Don't underestimate the effect of Calgary taking half of the second period completely off like they tend to do when they are up.

yes I understand the rule for line changes, but if watched the game last night, the Hawks would constantly make changes after the puck was dropped just to match up. Many of times they would get control and dump the puck so they can change. Especially Seabrook and Keith on Defense, and Buff and his linemates on O.

That's their key matchup. Seabrook and Keith are their best defenseman and they want Buff's line out there against Iginla's line. Pahlsson's line was playing pretty well so I assume he was trying to get them in there alot anyway. Pahlsson is also their best faceoff guy so that has alot to do with it as well and if you noticed, they dominated faceoffs in the second half of that game.

Time will tell, kid is only 20, he may play another 20 years...who knows? The Hawks are due for a title, that much is certain...

It's the Hawks. I won't be surprised if they don't win a cup in my lifetime. I'm just happy that they're putting a competitive, exciting team on the ice.

Hawks are done in this series.

I honestly thought we wouldn't see this team show up after how poorly they played in the last two. Seabrook and Keith have played outstanding tonight.

:lmao: I'm afraid you played the "update" card too soon since my comments were "even if they manage to win this series which they should have dominated they will likely get pasted in the second round". Your team has only been idle for a couple of weeks and you're already trolling other team's threads?

I was referring to the bolded statement above. From reading the thread, it clearly seemed like some Hawks fans were giving up even though the series was tied 2-2 and Chicago had home-ice advantage still. And why do you think they will get pasted in round 2?I'm on the Hawks bandwagon, btw.

:coffee: at other teams threads. the person who started the thread is a Maple Leafs Fan.

Please explain why the Hawks were supposed to "dominate" this series. And if it ends tonight, do you think they lived up to that?

yeah, I didn't really get that either. Lots of people picked the Flames to advance. It was certainly not the mismatch that post implies.

In the 4 regular season meetings the Blackhawks were 4-0 and outscored Calgary 19-7. The Blackhawks finished out the season strong even though they couldn't improve their playoff seed. Meanwhile the injured Flames sputtered into the playoffs. This series IMO was going to be a great opportunity for the Blackhawks to establish themselves and make a statement. Instead they are scratching tooth and nail in a dogfight that they might not survive. Being a homer I may have very easily overestimated the Hawks and underestimated the Flames. And no, if the series ends tonight I don't think they dominated. In game 1 at home they had to go to overtime for the gamewinner and were lucky Ladd was not called for interference to nullify the game winner. Game 2 was another very close win. It's pretty hard to dominate in a loss so I'm discounting games 3 and 4. Game 5 was pretty sweet but overall I don't see the makings of a domination. The Blackhawks have done a great job of battling back and not giving up which is awesome, but a team who has to continually come from behind in the playoffs is a team that will be golfing soon. For the record I though Vancouver was the team Chicago should be fearing in the playoffs. And don't confuse being critical of a team with being off the bandwagon. I've been a Blackhawks, Bulls, and Bears fan since the mid 70's. The fact that I am concerned about how a team is playing does not mean I don't fully stand behind them and enjoy the wins and mourn the losses.

Blackhawks are a very young team with limited playoff experience. Flames are pretty much the opposite. I think most expected this series to go 6 or 7. Blackhawks have a clear edge in team speed, but the Flames are much more physical. Khabibulin has clearly outplayed Kipper and I think that has been the difference in the series so far.The Canucks look tough but I don't think they're going to paste anybody. Chicago will have a good chance to advance, IMO.

So you expected a playoff tested veteran squad that is has been very good at home for several years now to just roll over against a team filled with 1-3 year pros that have never played a playoff game just because they had some success in the regular season, much of which came before the trade deadline?I had Chicago in 6 and I have been very impressed with many things they have done in this series. Though they have flaws and a few injuries right now, Calgary is a very good team and I think the Hawks have played very well so far.

Hawks lose tonight unless the Bulin-wall shows up and single handedly steals it for them. Hawks take game 7 at home as easily as they did on Saturday.

One thing that has surprised me in this series is how physical Chicago has been. I expected Calgary to push them around quite a bit but that hasn't been the case at all IMO. Chicago's 3rd and 4th lines have been very effective throughout.I agree on the second round. If they match up with the Nucks in the second round I think they have a very good chance to advance. Unlike St. Louis, they have the ability to score on Luongo and get the edge in the close games the Blues couldn't. And they have a far superior defensive group than the Blues who hung right in defensively the whole series against Nucks.

Seabrook has been one of the most impressive players in the playoffs so far, along with Jonas Hiller.

I thought the NHL Playoffs were suppose to be easy. What's this not winning a series in 4 games all about? I think you have to excuse some Blackhawks fans, they aren't exactly used to playoff hockey.

I think Chicago can beat anyone in a best of 7 game series except maybe Detroit. But even then they have a good history versus them the last couple years and won't be intimidated. If they are lucky enough to go on to face Vancouver, it will be a real shame that they get Home Ice.
