Don't know much about Ponder but I hear he is pro-ready and wanted to start an official watch thread. Much like Tebow it's only a matter of time before Ponder gets his shot.

Do we have any analysis of his game? How does he compare to a Cam Newton or a Andy Dalton.

For those of us in QB flex and 2 QB leagues this could be a huge pickup.

Could he be better than Newton?

The scouts seem to love this guy but whenever I see him play, he just doesn't seem to pass the eye test and this includes his Florida State days too. I liken him to a more athletic version of Trent Edwards.

I don't disagree, but when Trent was at his "best" (which I grant you, was nothing marvelous to behold), he was a .500 QB in this league. Any version of him that was somehow improved could only be at least an adequate pro QB. That'd have to be a big step up from 2011 McNabb, I'd think.

I like Ponder, but even if he plays this year, he wouldn't elevate the game of Percy like Newton has Smith or Dalton does Green.

Not 100% sure I agree with the reasoning here.Newton primarily has revitalized Smith's statlines because he's the first QB Smith has played with in a while with enough arm to outthrow the coverage...which is where Smith does his damage.Percy lives in the flat and in intermediate routes. As any Philly fan will tell you, even in-his-prime McNabb had a tendency to find those receivers and drill the ball into the turf five yards in front of them.(Ed.: but no, I don't think his #'s would be better than Newton's, by any stretch of the imagination.)

What I meant was that the entire offense is a wreck and substituting Ponder for McNabb wouldn't make as much of a difference as putting Newton in the Carolina offense did.

Possibly.He'll be receiving the call after we loose to KC ready or not.

In a 2QB league here. Currently rostering Whitehurst as my QB4, and juggling around the idea of dropping him for Ponder.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is enough info/news out there to be hopeful for either. Read something today about Frazier's continued support of McNabb - I'll try to find the link.

Regardless, sad sad days ahead for Seattle and Minny fans.

Well sure, as a Vikings fan I'd rather see him play sooner rather than later. If he shows nothing, then maybe you can start thinking about fixing it next year.

Depends......if the perception is that McNabb lost the game again then maybe. But otherwise I'd prefer they remain patient and play Ponder when he's ready. He'll be treated like a savior if he comes in too soon. Better to have him play when the season is lost and no one cares if he goes 8 for 18 and 90 yards, 2 int's. I agree that they have to see him play though. They will have a shot at Luck/Barkley/Jones at this rate. Better find out if Ponder is worth passing on another option.

Never for a minute take an endorsement as a good thing. It's a bad thing that he has to publicly endorse the QB, and the coach will always do so until the moment he makes the change. It's coachspeak 101.

Anyway, going back and watching the past few games(I'm a masochist imo) and it's easy to see that line is atrocious in pass defense and it really looked as bad as the unit that help knock Favre out of the NFL. Tough to say if I really want Ponder in just yet, because he'll get tossed around like a rag doll.

Ponder might actually help Harvins numbers as McNabb can't seem to hit the broad side of a barn. Ponder's arm strength was reportedly an issue in the pre-draft info I read but his accuracy was never called into question. Running AP & a short passing game might not put up huge stats but may be enough to at least get Harvin startable again.

McNabb would be an exceptional backup. Great deep ball today and lots of pinpoint accuracy to the TE over the middle in heavy coverage. His problem is the team is 0-4. His play today was a-ok and certainly worthy of being an NFL starter.-
