When does Betancourt start closing?
He's gonna have to start pitching well too. He's yielded 9 hits and a walk in 3.3 innings.Keep your eyes on Masa here.
Before you go out grabbing Masa off your wire, he exactly has not been lights out either and really has not pitched in a tight spot yet. I just think they brought him in for a reason....to keep the Raffy's at set up if Borowski falters.

Ok, here we go again. 9th inning, 2 outs, down 3-2. Cabrera draws a 2 out walk, then Hafner blasts one over the right field wall on the first pitch.

Thankfully they are letting Westbrook try and finish it out.

leadoff single. Then Vlad grounds into a double play. Long fly out to center to end it. :(

4-4

The Detroit kitty cats still suck BAD at 0-7

Good to see Hafner come through in a clutch spot.SFSG in regard to Carmona, Lee, and Westbrook (he was a hard luck loser in his first start). Betancourt and Borowski are making me nervous, tho.

Agree. Nice to see Hafner crush that first pitch.Back to .500 with a 3:30 start today.

Was REAL mad when Jake hung that breaking ball to Vlad. Ahead in the count...keep throwing your sinking junk at him. Worst thing you can do is hang a breaker to him. Went right to bed after that hit. Glad to see we pulled it out!

JW missed his spot there badly. Martinez was set up away and ball came back over the plate. Pretty much what happened with the two HRs he gave up in the ChiSox series.

If only I could stay awake to see any of the game. :lmao:

Article fixed.

Boy would it be nice to see Miller have an injury free nice season....even just at AAA.

Rumors abound that they'll ponder moving him full time to the pen, maybe to groom as a closer.

How about Speier plunking Pronk in the 9th yesterday? Didn't see it, but heard there was a nice staredown as Pronk took him deep in the 9th the day before.

Carmona deal looks like it goes two years into his free agent years. This is gonna be another great Shapiro deal, my friends.

Yeah, especially since Speier ran through everyone else in the 9th. Kid needs to dial it down and stay in his shoes because acting like that gonna get him shown up some night when he gives up the inevitable walk-off dinger.

Second start in a row that the A's have roughed up CC. I know he usually blows in Oakland, but throwing like this at home?? I'm about 1 more start from being officially concerned.

Cliff Lee has been great so far, while C.C. is costing himself a lot of money. I predicted he would have a down year with the pressure of a contract year hanging over his head.

How botched is it that the Red Sux come here for a two game series right now and we play them in a four game series in Boston in September? That's it. Nice work computers. Can't even get 3 and 3.

Cliff Lee solid again! Cliffy and Jake are looking real good.

If ManRam can get his uniform dirtied tonight, I'll be OK with 2 and 4Should Tribe throw Manny some heat?

COMMENTARY

Game 4 of the 2007 American League Championship Series had just ended, the Tribe was up, three games to one, but the image of Manny Ramirez standing at home plate with arms raised in a self-congratulatory pose burned brightest.

It's 2008 now, and if professional baseball players truly police themselves on the field, it's time for Ramirez to get the major-league equivalent of a Taser blast.

He needs to be knocked down -- at the least.

Ramirez's act last October calls for high-and-tight heat. Don't hit him, just put him on the ground.

If Jake Westbrook wants to put a two-seamer into Ramirez's ribs, well, there will be no tears shed here.

Just in case any Tribe fans have forgotten . . .

It was the top of the sixth inning of Game 4 and the Tribe led, 7-0. Kevin Youkilis and David Ortiz started the inning with back-to-back dingers off Paul Byrd.

Jensen Lewis relieved Byrd to face Ramirez, who hit a 3-2 pitch into the Tribe bullpen to make the score 7-3.

Ramirez watched the ball soar into the night, arms pointed at the sky. In Ramirez's strange world, a solo home run to cut your team's deficit to four apparently calls for showing up the opposing pitcher, team and its fans, some of which still adore Ramirez from his time spent in Cleveland.

The Plain Dealer's Paul Hoynes wrote after the game, which the Indians won, 7-3, that as Ramirez walked slowly up the first-base line, the Indians screamed at him from their dugout.

Understandably, the ALCS is not the time to retaliate against such boorish behavior. C.C. Sabathia plunked Jason Varitek and MikeLowell in Game 5, but Ramirez went unscathed.

Tonight is Game 13 of 162. Tonight should be payback.

Let's be honest, "Manny being Manny" is a cute way of saying Ramirez is a clown. And it shouldn't be a free pass for acting like a clown.

Here's some more honesty: Had the Indians won the ALCS, Ramirez's classless act may have been forgiven. But the Indians didn't win, and Ramirez shouldn't be forgiven.

Imagine an Indian doing what Ramirez did -- in Boston. Imagining it is as far as it could go. An Indian wouldn't do it -- Shapiro and Wedge lead professionals.

Please, Tribe, if Ramirez is going to finish the game tonight without having to dust off his uniform or use an ice pack, at least win.

Winning heals . . . and helps us forget.

IMO...anything less than a fastball to his ribs is unacceptable

Nice 83 mph meatball by our "closer" to one of the best hitters of all time.

What a ####### this is already.

They can't go the whole season with Borowski closing. Teh suck is that with his stuff, there is really no other position for him, except maybe a throwaway in long relief.

I really hope Shapiro doesn't wait on this. He certainly got a good look at what a real closer is when Papeldick blew away the first two hitters he faced.

Why didnt the Indians acquire a closer inthe offseason? Also, is Borowski hurt? At least last year he was decent in save chances.
