***Official CLEVELAND INDIANS Thread*** (2 Viewers)

I was watching Jim Rome Is Burning and Ryan Garko was the special correspondent. He's going around to everybody and talking and he finds the clubhouse manager. The MGR tells a Manny story:

The day of the OJ low-speed chase everyone is gathered around the TV watching it except Manny who was taking some BP. He comes in and sees everyone gathered around the TV. He asks what everyone's watching. Someone says, "The cops are chasing OJ".

Manny asks why. The reply: "OJ killed his wife."

Manny's like  "Chad Ogea killed his wife?"

:pickle:

PHOENIX — Manny Ramirez will be back in Los Angeles Monday to renew his love affair with the city, but before his career ends he hopes to be reunited with his first love: the Cleveland Indians.

"I would like to play for Cleveland one more time, to go back where I started," said Ramirez, with the Dodgers playing their home opener Monday against the San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium. "I have so many good memories there, why not?

"I think to go back where you started is everyone's dream."

INDIANS: Beat Jays for first win of season

Ramirez, 37, who spent the first 10 years of his career in the Indians organization, shared his sentiments this spring with Chicago White Sox DH Jim Thome. They were teammates in Cleveland from 1993 to 2000, but each departed when the Indians were outbid in free agency. Ramirez left after the 2000 season for an eight-year, $160 million contract with the Boston Red Sox. Thome signed a six-year, $85 million contract after the 2002 season with the Philadelphia Phillies and, after a 2005 trade, is in his final year with the White Sox.

Thome and Ramirez each might be eligible for free agency this winter if Ramirez opts out of his two-year contract. And if they become free agents, Ramirez told Thome, they should both consider returning to Cleveland.

"Manny was very sincere when he brought that up to me," Thome said. "Manny was saying how special that would be for us to both go back together. He was very passionate. Baseball's such a weird thing. You never know what's going to happen."

If Ken Griffey Jr. can return to the Seattle Mariners, Ramirez says, he and Thome could make a last stop in Cleveland before their careers end.

"Me and Thome back in Cleveland?" Ramirez said. "That would be sweet.

"I love L.A. I really do. But the way the city responded to me, it reminded me a lot of how it was in Cleveland."

Why must we be the ones to open new Yankee Stadium? Do they think we're the homecoming patsy for the Evil Empire? :goodposting:

Plus, why a day game? I thought prime time was where the eyeballs were for viewing this. I thought ESPN would want to jam this down everyone's throat.

Manny wants to play for the Tribe again (before he retires):
No. Just no.
He's not better than what we currently trot out to LF?
doesn't matterMark said "the comment would mean a lot more if it had come from Thome. We want no part of Manny"
Sure it matters.Just because Shapiro says something doesn't mean the tune won't change in a year. We should all know that with any team in any sport. And I'm not sure why Shapiro would say that, unless he'd consider cutting Hafner and eat that salary. Why would it mean more from Jim? I don't see it.

it would mean more from jim because mark also said "if thome didn't leave cleveland he would be on the same level in this city as bob feller"says to me he values the honesty of thome more than the crazy of mannyalso said on thome "it was his agents decision because he was being pressured by the stock holders to take the best deal and thats what philly gave him"

At the end of the second inning, while grip-it-and-rip-it Kelly Shoppach was running off the field after drawing his first walk of the season, the guy who walked him, CC Sabathia, yelled, "Swing the bat." Shoppach laughed and said, "Throw me a strike."
:stalker:

I'd welcome Thome back if the situation was right, but I don't buy the last statement. I think Shapiro is just being generally nice here knowing how some fans view Jim. I'm not denying there was not pressure, because there was, but Thome could have done whatever he wanted, even before he hit the market iirc.

Victor's hitting .390, and Hafner's at .288, and we can't generate any offense since the esplosioned at Yankee Stadium. Ridiculous.

On the plus side, it was nice to see Lee get back to form last night.

BTW, LaPorta's batting .400. :tinfoilhat:

Not sooner than Dellucci.
The sad part is that's probably true. More than likely, Shapiro will wait until June 5th to call him up. Why? Per LetsGoTribe, it's because after that date, he won't have the 83 days of service this year to qualify as a "Super Two" arbitration eligible player in 2011. That way, he doesn't become arbitration-eligible until 2012.

It's absolutely true because Dellucci was called up.And you are probably spot on. Teams are always stringing out young players like that. Sometimes they can't hold them down, but usually they can. It's funny listening to Wedge say one or two youngsters won't help anything right now. Nobody knows for sure, but I'm thinking it wouldn't get much worse. The problem becomes can you play Valbuena enough (sit Peralta?) to warrant that move. LaPorta absolutely can find himself in the lineup almost daily with Hafner on the shelf.

Dellucci :yes:I agree LaPorta could probably step in right now. It does suck that the Super 2 rule would be what's holding him down because I'm guessing the player formally known as Pronk will be like this at least all season.

The Indians recalled OF David Dellucci and optioned LHP Rich Rundles to Triple-A Columbus before the game. Dellucci went 4-for-5 with two doubles and scored a run as the designated hitter in his first game of the season. ... Matt LaPorta, the outfielder acquired during last season's trade for CC Sabathia, will join the club before Saturday's game. ...

Wow. Tonight is only the 2nd time since the inception of the Designated Hitter in 1973* that both DH's have batted 9th. Tonight- Ben Francisco of Cleveland and Travis Snider of Toronto. The other time- July 25,2005 when Jason DuBois of Cleveland and Dan Johnson of Oakland batted 9th as the DH.

*records have only been kept since 1974.
