All off-season I got the feeling that this year was going to be a bridge to 2013 for the upcoming prospects after getting rid of some huge disappoints in Stewart, Ianetta, Weathers, etc. But I like this team and I'm cautiously optimistic. The offense should be good, but concerns abound for the pitching staff that is filled with question marks.

It's going to be an interesting year. How the pitching staff develops is a major storyline - can Chacin develop more control and become a TOR starter? Can Nicasio make it all the way back from his devastating injury and develop better secondary pitches? Is Pomeranz a legitimate Ace in the making? The answers to those questions have huge implications for this season and several more to come.

Other than overpaying for Michael Cuddyer (still an upgrade), I thought most of the moves they made in the offseason were good ones. It all hinges on how the pitching shakes out though.

Agreed, and they need Fowler to play like he did in the second half last year for an entire season.

What's the forecast for Todd Helton this year? He's a free agent in my fantasy league. Worth a pickup?
They're talking about limiting his games in order to keep his back healthy. If you're in an OBP league with daily lineups and some kind of predictable pattern of usage develops, Helton could be a good late round CI or UT pick. It might be more bother than it's worth though.

That's how I treated him last year until Bonifacio got hot and I had someone else to slide in CI. He won't help you win, but if you run into a rash of injuries/poor play he is adequate filler in a daily league if you can platoon him. But I won't miss my daily 8 pm alarm to check and see if he's playing and if I need to slide (gulp) Chase Headley into the lineup.

Jamie Moyer officially becomes the oldest player to win a major league game at 49 years, 150 days.

Through 3 starts he has a 2.55 ERA... amazing.

So Jim Tracy, citing the overuse of his bullpen, announces that the team is going to a 4-man rotation with the starters on a 75 pitch count limit...

To save his bullpen, he's going to create more work for his bullpen...
