Companies dropping out of our big Vegas conf like flies. Attendance about 30% of normal. That’s with a fully vaccinated mandate for attendees.  No control once you get out of exhibit hall and Clark County is a complete hotspot. Making employees sign a waiver they won’t go to casinos, etc. Fun times.
We just joined them.  CEO met with Board and we're out.  Not only did we have to have a vaccine registered with Clear to get in, but now they are following CDC guidelines and mandating masks 100% indoors at the exhibit hall.  Clark County a petri dish.  Back to square 1

When is the conference?

Heard back from my son’s preschool. All their staff is vaccinated and while they don’t have a mask mandate yet, they will make sure he keeps his on if that’s our request. They also have a bunch of cleaning protocols they do each week.

Much better than I expected so I think we are good to go.
This seems like a nightmare. I remember the anxiety of sending ours during normal times. My wife would send him with a bodycam until she felt comfortable. They do seem accommodating, has to be a tough business during covid

Im not the one who started with the sarcastic name-calling
You used the word  "lunacy" in reference to a take... I commented that somebody's take is lunacy for sure, just not the one you think.  Referencing a take as Lunacy is not the same as calling you a lunatic (or a sociopath, for that matter).

I've never reported a post before but feel free to tag the FBG Mod if you disagree and we can let them sort it out.

I doubt you'd like the outcome though

@IC FBGCav

Since you and I are the only one's who seem to care about this
Since you brought it up...

Love me some Cav, but the fact that you admit that you and he are the only ones on that train should probably tell ya something.

It likely won't, but it should.

As of now our very large conference in Nashville for October is a go. I seem to be the only one on the team who has "interruption/cancellation" on their radar.

Phillies/Nats game PPD-  12 Nats players / staff tested positive..  11 were vaccinated.. :o

Interesting details though-

Martinez said all but one of those who tested positive have been vaccinated. Those who tested positive have either no symptoms or minor symptoms, such as a head cold, the manager said. Martinez believes the fact they are vaccinated has prevented or limited symptoms.

"I encourage people to get vaccinated,'' Martinez said. "It does help. I'm seeing it first-hand. It's basically a small head cold, but they're doing fine.''

Sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan that a number of the breakthrough cases came from those given the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Had two Pfizer shots back in April. A week ago I had mild cold like symptoms for two days which I wouldn't think much of except now my taste of salt isn't right. My kids had cold symptoms too but everybody is fine now. If it was covid, I'm glad I had the shot.

On the delta variant is there reliable/unbiased info out there on death rate with this variant? See a lot of mention of how contagious but haven’t seen numbers on this.

Have this sinking feeling that the group travel companies that were just starting to rebound are going to take another hit because of this.  Could be the last straw for some in that industry.

Would these cases even register if not for the testing program mlb has?

Hopefully short term small head cold does not equal long term chronic brain deterioration. 😕

See, this is how you responsibly report on "breakthrough infections" without turning your story into anti-vax propaganda.  The vaccines work.

Most likely not—but I think the reality is that there are a TON of breakthrough cases that are gong unreported. Most people do not get covid tested super often—especially vaccinated people..  If a vaccinated person feels like they have a mild cold or flu—more often than not—they are just going to ride it out. Breakthrough cases that are bad enough to seek a hospital visit most likely represent a tiny minority.  Being that we only count cases that are officially reported by labs or hospitals—I’d say its safe to assume that there is a LOT more Covid out there than we think.  A lot of people got vaccinated in February or before—which means the efficacy of them is dropping with each passing day.   You have to remember—towards the beginning of covid—one of the biggest fears was asymptomatic spread.   With so many vaccinated breakthroughs occurring—asymptomatic spread could be very plausible currently.

Have sent 5 buddies with kids these links. No hyperbole, just a heads up.

2 (deniers) are actually MAD at me

What the #### is wrong with people. If you want to keep your head in the sand regarding yourself that's fine. Your kids?! Dude...
I got my 3 sons all vaccinated (Pfizer for all 3) as soon as they could be. As cruel as it sounds, I’m no longer worried about other people’s kids or their parents, if they’re eligible to get the vaccines and they don’t get them.

Anecdotal reports from St. Tammany Parish, LA (a deep-red "plan-demic" area and a ongoing Delta hotspot) are that local hospitals & clinics are getting a lot of people suddenly signing up and showing up for the COVID vaccines. People are now actually waiting in numbers now at these vaccination locations, whereas two weeks ago it was an easy no-wait walk-up.
Good, but it’s been no wait for almost two months now. My youngest was in the 12 to 15 bucket that got approved last and he was fully vaccinated before our 4th vacation week. There was one other mom with two HS aged kids that walked in otherwise there was no one at this CVS the entire wait we were there. I think Delta and the rising numbers will hopefully get the rest of the non-lunatics (had to lol) in line with the get a vaccine group.

This is the response I am hoping for from our son's preschool.  I'm not all that hopeful, but on the positive side, I went over to the school this week (son is home with us for the summer) and they were still wearing masks etc.  That kind of shocked me.

Mega cruise ship operators are more or less fueling their ships with burning cash. That pile is nearly gone.

Sent a screen grab from AR Children's Hospital just as a heads up because we had discussed in a group text thread a day or two prior and a few folks were adamant that it was no risk to kids. One guy actually asked if there was any data showing kids were at risk.

Sent the screen grab with a note saying "heads up, looks like this strain may be an issue for kids. Keep your eyes peeled and stay safe."  Just a quick low-effort "FYI".

Two of the three apologized last night / this morning for getting snippy, saying they just were frustrated with this dragging on and didn't like seeing the risk but thanked me for sending it.  Replied "no prob, we're all ready for it to be over." One dude is still being salty, but may just be busy.

Still not 100% sold on children's vaccinations... glad I don't have to make that decision and don't envy those who do.

Yep.

My mother LOVES cruises. She wants the family to do an annual cruise together, etc.

She wouldn't dare go near a ship now or anytime in the immediate future.

I know Pfizer is pushing for people to get a booster but what about the other vaccine makers?

Does J&J have a booster in the works?

Going to be interesting to see how they balance booster vs "touch-up" that's reformulated a bit to better address the trending variants.

It seems like as of now we're still good with the existing shot, just need a boost to titer levels.... not sure how long that will hold true.

For 12 and over, it was an easy decision. I never worried about the other vaccines they’ve gotten for years and I didn’t buy into the lunacy. My boys had no issues with either vaccine so maybe we would have been asymptomatic anyway but I wasn’t going to risk it. I understood the risks and we’ll get any boosters as well.

  Yeah I think tweens/teens are starting to get into the "developed enough" stage. I'd have a harder time making the call with a toddler or 3rd grader. Maybe I'm overly paranoid on that front. Hopefully the study comes back good.

Yeah, we’ve been on 3 cruises with our kids in the past few years- all in the Caribbean. We are all vaccinated, and would not even consider it these days. Now, if the cruise line requires proof of vaccination, maybe. The main risk is the destinations not allowing the passengers to disembark because of someone popping on a test.

My daughter may or may not have covid.

Developed a cold symptoms for 3 days. Mostly just congestion. We didn't bother with a test this time
I've woken up with sore throats three times since I've been vaccinated. No other symptom, just the sore throat. Each time, the symptoms have gone away within a few hours -- I'm fine by lunch.

Dry throat from sleeping slack-jawed? My immune system beating back a COVID infection? Something else? No idea.

I usually cough after eating pretty much any food. 99% of the time, it's just a 30-second thing ... but in the times of COVID, anyone in earshot is going to wonder what the heck is up with Mr. COVID hacking up over there (!).

I am also a sun sneezer and on most sunny days, I can be found stepping out of my car in a parking lot somewhere and blasting out 3-5 hard sneezes, unmasked (I hate sneezing in the mask if I can help it).

Some cruiselines are requiring pax be vaccinated, and some aren't.  The CDC let those lines that are requiring vax to resume cruising without going through "test cruises" and a bunch of other hoops, while those that aren't sailing fully vaxxed had to go through all those protocols.  Generally those that appeal more to families (such as Disney) are not requiring it, since the under-12s can't be vaccinated.

I can only speak fully to the one I've been following most closely, which is Celebrity Cruises.  They started cruising again in June, and the requirements are a mishmosh depending upon where you're cruising.  All of the following applies only to Celebrity cruises.

In general, Celebrity's requirement is that if you are 12 years old or more, you must have been fully vaxxed at least two weeks prior to sailing.  They require you to take your original vaccination card to the port, where they check it and take pictures of it, etc.  No exceptions if you're a teenager or an adult.  Children under 12 can board if they present a negative test, which is administered at the pier.  However, no more than 5% of the passengers can be unvaxxed, meaning no more than 5% of the passengers can be <12 years old.

In addition to this, they are requiring negative tests from everyone, whether or not vaxxed, if localities require it.  For instance, they had some sailings out of St. Maarten, which requires tests from everyone whether or not vaxxed, so everyone has to get a test prior to boarding.  In addition, they require a test if a locality requires it, even if the person does not intend to get off in that port.

The exception to all of this is cruises from Florida, because the governor there will not allow businesses, even cruiselines, to require vaccinations.  To get around this, Celebrity instituted a policy that they will not "require" you to be vaxxed, but if you are not able to provide original documentation of your vax before boarding, you will be subject to extra requirements that make sailing unvaxxed not very desirable.  These include thrice-weekly testing at your expense while on board, special dining and entertainment sections for the unvaxxed, can only go on Celebrity-sponsored shore excursions (i.e., you can't go into a port on your own), and you must wear a mask at all times onboard except in your stateroom.  In addition, they limit the unvaxxed to 5% on any ship (including children), so if you arrive at the pier and they've already reached that 5%, you're out of luck.

Regarding masking, for the most part the vaxxed are not required to wear masks onboard, but again subject to local requirements.  The cruises out of Greece have been an exception where masking is more fully required.

Celebrity is using bracelets and "tracelets" to distinguish between vaxxed and unvaxxed so you can easily tell who should be masked, etc.  And what happens if someone breaks the rules?  Well, they get tossed off the ship, as an unvaxxed couple found out a few weeks ago when they went off the ship on a Celebrity-sponsored excursion but then took off on their own.  The ship ended up leaving that port late while they took the people off the ship and worked with the local port authorities as to what to do with them.

"Tracelets" are used on some but not all cruises so far, but word is it will become the norm.  These have a chip to record movements so that if someone turns up positive, contact tracing can be more easily done.

Has it been infallible?  Nope.  There have been, to my knowledge, three instances of a sailing so far in which someone has turned up positive.  In the first, two people were found to be positive on the penultimate night of a cruise in the Caribbean, when everyone was getting tested in order to return to the US (Celebrity administers the tests on the ship).  They were evacuated out on private jet back to the US, and those who had had contact with them were re-tested to ensure their negative results (these people were isolated in their rooms for about 24 hours).  The second two positive are on ships currently sailing - one in Alaska and one in the Caribbean.  In both instances, it was an individual person who again was airlifted back home (at Celebrity's expense, as this is their plan at least until November), and contact tracing found no other cases.  In the case of the Alaska passenger, he/she had some mild cold symptoms so got tested voluntarily.

In each of these instances, the protocols worked and the rest of the passengers remained safe and COVID negative, and were able to continue their vacations.  All in all, I'd actually feel much safer on a ship right now (or at least one from the lines that are requiring vax) than out at a restaurant or a grocery.

Sounds like “long COVID.”

I should add that the lines have also done a lot of upgrading ventilation systems and such, but those technical details aren't something I know much about.

Norwegian Cruise Line requires 100% vaccination of passenger and crew. No exceptions.

Most of the other lines are following the 95% vaccinated policy, basically meaning that kids under 12 are still allowed, but are imposing punitive conditions if you aren't vaxxed (requiring testing at own expense, limited access to venues, 100% masking requirement, etc).

Can't disagree with this sentiment.

I wondered if you would weigh in.  :)   I forgot to mention the crew - yes, Celebrity like Norwegian has 100% vaxxed crew.
