Not looking for thunder, but I am the only one who takes the time to post a mock.  Also, I called Zeke waaaaay before he was rated even in the top 15 as someone we should consider.

Whatevs...all good.

We were enamoured with about 6 Qb's, check the visits.

Apparently JJ admits the Raiders stole Cook from him. Prescott is Tebow the Sequel.

Never understood the love for Cook. Don't think he will be any good in the NFL. 58.1% and 56.1% complete his last 2 seasons in college. Not good. How do you think he will do in the pro's?

Look at  the good NFL quarterbacks completion percentage in college. All above 60%.

This and the reported lack of leadership skills. You can't be the QB of Americas team,under this spotlight, and not even been voted by your college team peers as a captain. 

I'm so glad the Raiders took him in front of us.

 
Here are my thoughts on our draft:

What I liked: That we weren't afraid to take the player (Zeke) that would help us the most, regardless where other teams may have had him ranked. I also liked that we are valuing speed again.  Loved the fact we did not get Lynch.

What I didn't like: That we will have to wait a year for help from our 2nd round pick.

Pick 4 - Zeke Elliott (RB). Probably my favourite pick since Tyron Smith.  I get goose bumps thinking of what he is capable of doing behind this Oline. Smart, tough, does it all. Gives our entire team an identity, makes Romo's job easier.  Pick your poison, stack 8 in the box or double Dez. We are going to road grade and I love that ####.

Pick 34 - Jaylon Smith (LB). Top 5 talent without a doubt. He is our future Mike LB.  Again, like Zeke, he does it all. Runs like a rabbit, covers, hits.  This pick ultimately will decide how we view this draft in years to come.  If the knee heels, it's a freaking home run. This is like expecting to get an i.pod on Christmas morning, only to have your parents tell you that you get nothing this year, and that if you correctly guess a coin flip next Christmas you will get a Mac Book Pro.

Pick 67 - Maliek Collins (DT). Sure. OK. I liked other players better.  Seems like a project/hobby for Coach Rod. 

Pick 101 - Charles Tapper (DE). Suberb athlete. Tons of speed off the edge, needs some coaching and can be a contributor. Sets the Edge well and plays the run honestly.

Pick 135 - Dak Prescott (QB). Hard not to like this kid.  Stock fell due to a DUI. Highly productive player, can run and scramble. I love his feet in the pocket.  He has to work on his accuracy, touch, taking snaps from center and reading defenses.  He will be a competent Back up with some upside to be potentially more.  Very happy we missed Lynch and Cook in spite of our ourselves.

Pick 189 - Anthony Brown (CB).  You can't teach 4.35. Decent sized and plays well in Zone.  These are the kind of guys you need in a Tampa 2.  Doesn't have to be a shutdown man guy. 

Pick 212 - Kavon Frazier (SS).  Love this pick. Very high SPARQ scores. In the box SS, I think he has a shot to start and be a ST contributor.  This kid is a big hitter.

Pick 216 - Darius Jackson (RB). Hated this pick. That is until I watched some of his highlights and game clips. Big, fast, powerful. 4.35 at 220 with a 41 inch vert.  Another potential ST player.

Pick 217 - Rico Gathers (TE). An amazing specimen, a freak  athlete who is a giant/huge project. This dude is 6'9, great/huge hands and runs like a deer.  If anyone can teach this guy Football, you could have a GEM. We have a great TE coach, I hope he can develop this guy.

This team is instantly a favorite to win the division, based on Zeke, a healthy Dez/Romo and with some minor changes to the D.  I see a 10 to 11 win team.

The more I think about it the more I agree. Especially on Dunbar. He's a dynamic playmaker but made of glass. 

Unless Dak is awful, we're going to carry 3 QBs. That means it's unlikely that we carry 4 backs.

Does Smith count against the roster or can he go on long-term IR as a rookie?

 
I'm doing my Sunday morning quarterback analysis here as I can after the draft as a fan but not a homer:

Thought we should have gone Ramsey at #4.  Too much need on defense and in the secondary. Could also let the FO decide if they wanted to cut bait on Carr, who I think is average and overpaid even at his lower salary.

FO went for the sizzle not the steak.

Second round we got screwed with DE's going 1 & 2. So, I can see them going elsewhere, BUT that was a big risk reward pick that doesn't help us for 2 years if everything heals right. 

Spence would have been a DE filler there or Jack an immediate impact LB. 

Dixon or Booker or Perkins or

Prosise would have been great complimentary RB's later. Most likely replace Dunbar who'll be on PUP early and might even beat out Dunbar.

I don't buy the Elliott will help keep the defense rested theory. Dallas D needed help to stop someone on 3rd down to get off the field late in games. Ramsey and Spence = impact players on D to do just that.

Hello BD, while I don't totally disagree with you. I do understand why the Cowboys did what they did. The draft didn't fall the way they imagined they wanted Dodd in the 2nd but the Jags snatch him away. I'm a huge fan of Dodd, Spence has way too many red flags and considering the Boys current conditions with the D-line there's no way they were taking that type of risk with Spence. They wanted Lynch but again fell short not pulling off the trade they wanted then again they came up short in wanting to get Cook.

This wasn't the best draft for the Boys and it certainly wasn't the worst but it was good and that's what I'll take considering how horrible we've drafted over the years. I'm also a fan of Ramsey but I understand why they went with Elliot. Give it a chance and let's see how this works out, it won't be as bad as it may seem.

Love the Zeke pick.  Romo's window is now.  Chances are no pick at #4 can help this team as much over the next three years as much as Zeke.  

Since when is running game sizzle, and not steak?  That's a new one.

Respectfully disagree with each and everything you said. 

Ramsey is more then likely a safety and I think Jones is better. 

I like Carr at the lower salary. 

Jack will also likely need surgery and isn't as good as Smith. No on Spense. 

HELL NO on Prosise. 

Zeke helps the D like Murray did. As bankerguy said earlier, the D the wasn't great in 2014, it was Murray and the playcalling that helped the D stay fresh. The RBs last year had a fairly healthy average but couldn't break arm tackles, Zeke can. The offense should roll again and force teams to take chances, which create more opportunities for mistakes.

I really like our chances to re-create what we did in 2014 if we stay healthy. We also play the 4th weakest schedule in 2016.

Our first 4 games. I wanted to look at the impact of losing Gregory/Lawrence.

vs. Giants.  Eli is usually good for a pick or 2. Confident we can score on them.

AT Washington. Not a hugely power house offense and Cousins is not uber experienced.

Vs. Bears. No Forte, and against Cutler.  Again, like our chances.

at 49ers. Terrible offense,  Should be an easy win if we play our game.

Looks like a 4-0 or 3-1 record after the suspensions are up.

Longtime Dallas fan here. I might be in the minority, but I absolutely hated the pick. Not the player himself so much as we could've had Ramsey & Henry. That would've a killer way to start the draft. Another strategy they could've used is to try to trade down several times into the late 20s/early 2nd & take Henry there. The extra picks would've been a HUGE bonus. There just isn't enough difference in Zeke & Henry (I personally like Henry better, anyway) to warrant spending the 4th pick on Zeke, much less taking a RB that early.

Elliott better be the best RB of all time to make it worth passing on Ramsey. I don't believe he'll be near the difference-maker Ramsey will be. We also had a big-time need for an impact D player.

Obviously, I'm going to root for Zeke now, but that pick really burnt my britches.

Ramsey is a CB that could be a very good S if a team decides to move him there. Pairing him with Jones and having flexibility with both would have set our secondary for a long time after Mo and Carr are gone. 

Carr's only good aspect of his play is that he's been able to stay healthy(unlike Mo) and stay on the field. 

I agree Jack will need surgery but when? He starts immediately and we hold our breath until he breaks down.  With Smith we hold our breath he gets fully healthy in a year or more and returns to near where he was playing. Big Risk IMO at pick#34 

Dixon, Booker or Perkins would have been fine to pair with our RB's. 

IF you want to get better on D, then get better defensive players.

No a CB at 4

Jack will need surgery again correct, it's a question of when not if. How long he last is the question? 

I would have passed on Elliot at 4 and taken one of those I mentioned later. Both Dixon and Booker were there at 101

I like the Collins pick.  Dak was a great pick at the end of the 4th, no doubt. 

Overall I thought it was a decent draft with big upside IF Smith gets healthy next year.

I didn't feel the need was greater at RB than CB at #4.  Very good RB's to compliment McFadden and Morris later as I mentioned.

I didn't feel the Cowboys were in a position to wait on a player like Smith, especially at #34 this year in the draft.

Yeah, we probably should have traded all our  top picks for the next 2-3 years and grab an unproven QB who isn't even the highest rated, and has a 50/50 chance of even being productive. Especially in such a patient and understanding fan base of Brotherly Love.

Dallas only offered a 2nd and 3rd to teams in the low teens and early twenties in the draft.  Starting with the Bengals at pick 23 the offer was a 2nd and 4th.

"The plan was to offer Dallas’ second-round and third-round picks, 34 and 67 overall, to teams in the late teens and early twenties—Indianapolis, Buffalo, the Jets, Houston—but then swap out the third-rounder for Dallas’ fourth-rounder, 101 overall, starting in the mid-twenties. Cincinnati (24), Pittsburgh (25), Seattle (26), Green Bay (27) and Kansas City (28) all got called. Lukewarm responses, mostly. Buffalo (19) said no to the offer of the second and third. The Jets said no."

Zeke will pay dividends right away. Cowboys will go 10-6 and win the division again this year with a solid run game to keep Romo relatively healthy. Just don't know about RBs log term. I guess it depends on use. If they plan on 350+ carries each year, he'll be done within 5 years the way they hit these days. 

Jaylon Smith seems like Sean Lee 2.0. When he's on the field, everyone will love him. And then he'll get hurt. 

The rest is a crap shoot anyway.

Thanks. So that makes more sense. Dallas did not offer their 2nd and 3rd to Seattle...which made Denver's offer more valuable. Put me in the camp that's happy with getting Smith and Collins instead of Paxton Lynch. But just so much uncertainty with it. Lynch blows up in Denver in 3 years and Smith never recovers his former level. That would bite. 

 
I thought  Elliot was a good pick. I think drafting a guy who will miss this year is a mistake with Romo at his age. Every year the Cowboys don't win with Romo, the more likely it is that they won't ever win (go deep in the playoffs) with Romo.

The Cowboys are clearly favorites to win the division, they are just favorites without a safety net if Romo gets hurt again. Kellen Moore/Dak Prescott are not the back-ups you want on a win now team. If Cousins does not regress but continues to develop, the Redskins will give the Cowboys a run this year. The Eagles and Giants are rebuilding.

 
I think a lot of people are underestimating the Giants.  They came on strong toward the end of the season and overhauled their defense in free agency.  Giants and Redskins will not be pushovers.  Philly on the other hand will be cellar dwellers.

They came on strong as in they lost 6 or their last 7?! Yes, I know they were competitve against some good teams but c'mon, that does not qualify as coming on strong.

Now your the one being dramatic.  The line will be even or at most Redskins -3.  Of the 4 games listed at Washington will be the most challenging.  Ill gladly take Dallas +7 for a nice size wager.

Ive been thoroughly entertained with Eagles team thread debating about whether or not Wendell Smallwood and his witness tampering charge were really that big of a deal.  Eerily similar to our previous debate on Greg Hardy last year.  For a good laugh google Smallwoods previous tweets.  Pure gold guy tweets out that he hates philly, hopes he never plays for them, and 75% of philly dudes is fagz.  :lmao: :lmao:

won't argue with you on this one. I don't think i will be able to cheer for him. It has to be one of the laziest things in sports media when they label guys as "character issues". I'll take the kids smoking pot any day over some dude charged with witness intimidation.

Didn't you guys also draft somebody who beat up his girlfriend?  Full circle from last year when Eagle fans were riding their high horses looking down on Cowboys for signing Hardy.

Demarcus Lawrence appealing his suspension with legitimate shot at getting it cut in half and jaylon smith not going to be put on IR with thought he might be ready for playoffs.  Not a bad day to be Cowboys fan.  

 
It is all going to come down to if Elliot is a dominant running back talent or not. If he is then it was a great pick.  If he isn't then it wasn't.  They obviously thought he was head and shoulders above what they have at the position.  Any Cornerback who's name isn't Deon Sanders isn't going to come in here and transform our defense, especially if we can't generate a pass rush which given the state of our Defensive Ends during at least the first 4 games and probably a few games after that will not be good.  An offense that can convert on 3rd downs, wear down the opponent's defense most importantly put points on the board will definitely change our team.  Our team just wasn't the same last year even though on paper our defense was better than it was in 2014 and I am counting the few games that Tony Romo was healthy. We do well when we can impose our will with our offensive line and our running game.  If we can do that this year we will be good.  If not then it won't matter.

I have no problems taking a swing on Smith in the 2nd round given his talent level.  The team obviously thinks they have the inside track when it comes to knowledge of the injury given that their team doctor performed the surgery and once he comes back  the injury is not one that should bother him in the future or limit his career like Jacks's knee injury is reported to do.  

For those who think we should have taken a DE this year with the 2nd round pick instead because Smith most likely won't be able to give us much if anything this season I want you to ask yourself this question.  How much did Randel Gregory gave us last season in his rookie debut?  He was considered by many to be the best pass rusher in the draft but dropped due to concerns about his marijuana use in college.  He did what the vast majority of rookie Defensive Ends do in their rookie year.  Not much.  Demarcus Lawrence who we drafted with the 34 pick the year before did the same thing.  If Smith is the player they believe him to be and he comes back for a full 2017 season, when we will be looking for a replacement for Rolando Mcclain and when Sean Lee (who has always had trouble staying healthy) will be 31 years old, we will be grateful to have him.
