Coach Wade Phillips said Friday that Felix Jones looks like he will be fullspeed on Sunday against the Falcons. The running back has missed the last two games with a sprained PCL suffered against Carolina on Sept. 28.

Jones had been practicing with a brace until Thursday.

``I feel good about where Felix is,'' Phillips said. ``He looks fast. He's moved well so I think he'll get back into his roll, which could be quite a bit during the game.''

With Marion Barber also recovered from a quads injury, Sunday marks the first time since the New York Giants game on Sept. 20 with all three running backs in the lineup. Jones rushed for 212 yards and one touchdown on 21carries in the first three games.

Good stuff Bankerguy.The Dallasmorning News, (I almost hate using them as a source) reports that when Felix was running at full speed he was not wearing the brace.

Does this mean he will not be wearing the brace during the game?

No. Last I heard and as far as I know he will be wearing the brace tomorrow as I posted earlier.ETA: No, the DMN isn't all that solid. They tend to do a lot of sugar-coating. And any quote from Wade Phillips isn't worth a hill of beans.

After flaring up as a major story in the preseason, the possibility of a punt hitting the Dallas Cowboys' video board has become a non-issue.

Atlanta Falcons punter Michael Koenen may change that today.

With the Falcons preparing to play at Dallas, Koenen has openly discussed trying to hit the board in pregame warmups, just to see if he can. And he says the board -- which is 90 feet above the playing field -- might just obstruct one of his punts in the game as well.

"If I accidentally hit it, I accidentally hit it," Koenen said this week.

Some of these guys just can't help themselves from trying to hit that thing.

Pre-game warmups are one thing. Game conditions are a whole nother thing entirely.

Gerald Sensabaugh will indeed be playing today and will be key in covering Tony Gonzalez.

His coverage skills are a big reason they went out and got him in the first place.

This will be an interesting matchup to watch today.

Defensively, Atlanta is allowing an average of 15.4 points-per-game.

I expect that to change significantly today.

The stadium roof is closed. This will be the first day game at the new digs.

Agreed. I can't help but look ahead though. Winning brews confidence and those two could finally allow the team to reach its potential on a consistent basis. But of course next week is the only game that matters right now.

No penalties from Flo today for anyone keeping track. That was an encouraging game .... the SeaChickens have a subpar OL and several decent receivers. It'll be interesting to see how Julius does or if we see more Forsett in this one as speed guys tend to get our defense more than power/plodding backs.

So I guess we're rooting for the Skins tomorrow night and then the Eagles the following week against the Giants although either way we just need to get a nice string of games together.

They are still not giving Tashard Choice enough touches.

Miles Austin. What can you say about this guy? I was ticked when we didn't place 1st round compensation on him before the draft, but luckily the Jets were too ignorant to pick him up.

How about that Mike Jenkins? I remember all of the complaints. The guy isn't physical enough. He has his job over Scandrick because of politics and his ego couldn't handle the demotion. He was a bust of a 1st round pick.

I guess not. Good job to the Coaches and Scouts.

Nice to see that pass rush getting cranked up again. Matt Ryan must certainly feel welcome in Dallas.

Good job by Flo during the game. Abraham can be a beast.

Lots of good insights here.

One thing that really stood out to me yesterday was Felix' pass blocking. He was forced several times to pick up blitzers. There were several occastions where he just destroyed the guy. On one play, he took the blitzer about 5 yards off his line and put him on the ground. Another time, he pancaked the guy. He was repeatedly squaring up the blitzer and making solid contact.

If Felix can do that consistently. he's going to get more and more snaps.

Also, did anyone else notice that Felix was split out wide several times? And got targeted on at least 1 pass play like that?

I look out and hope he's covered and hope Romo never even looks his way. Complete waste at this point. Miles could certainly start drawing WR1 type coverage soon.

I'm still not sure I'm ready to declare much of anything about this team just yet. Gotta face the Eagles the following monday to get the real test first. Seattle is all kinds of bad, and even off a bye they don't scare me at all. Win this game and they've accomplished what they had to in the week 3-8 stretch going 3-1. That's all that had to happen to stay on pace.

I think a positive forward thinking take on this Dallas team is the correct one. I see more people joining me this week and expect a loaded bandwagon by Thanksgiving. I hope the team doesn't peak too soon. I thought the KC game was perfect despite the OT and disappointing play. I think Romo getting some typical late season type choking out of the way early against the Giants and Broncos was to the long term benefit of the team. As was a great game winning TD pass to an emerging WR in KC. Trying to be prophetic is an exercise in futility but I can't help but continue to be confident about these developments and their timing.

Roy E. Williams is, like Cedric Benson, a way better player than he will get credit for until he earns it. But he is a very very good talent that has yet to completely emerge. All I can add to that (besides quit being such a whiner in good times) is just wait; he will earn it eventually. He is injured and it shows. He is being upstaged by Austin and that's a great thing, strengthening and deepening this team. I liked listening to Deion yesterday saying the wrong WR got benched. Crayton should have started and Roy should have been demoted. I agree, and Roy's injury was a perfect excuse, but the chip on Crayton's shoulder looks like a good thing too. Think a boulder is developing on Roy's? I sure do. That's also going to be a good thing and the timing just might be as sweet as Austin's emergent, later in the season when things are really getting tough.

Also let's give the defensive game plan, adjustments and play calling some props yesterday. The first drive told me the Falcons came to play and I was not too excited about things, but from that point on, with the exception of that giveaway TD where they were confused and needed a time out, Dallas seemed to be in Atlanta's huddle all day. Great adjustments early, strong performance through the meat of the game, excellent job closing after a mini meltdown. Well done.

My concern was seeing the ground game get stuffed. That was new and I guess Atlanta deserves credit for that, but I hope to see them running strong next week. I hate seeing all these 06 backs drafted after Felix putting up such great numbers and steady performances. His fumble frustrated me too. It's time for him to tear it up, and again I think the timing is just about perfect for that.

The current standings are what they are, yet not revealing enough. And I won't waste time or space with Washington.

Giants: 2-0 in the division (Redskins, Cowboys), yet those 2 losses are in the NFC (Saints, Cardinals). NFC won-loss records are the 3rd tie-breaker after head-to-head and divisional records. It counts. Next five games are brutal:

Eagles: 1-0 in the division (Redskins). Having already beaten the Panthers, Chiefs and Bucs, as have the Cowboys, the loss to Oakland could be severely damaging if it comes down to the 4th tie-breaker. Common opponents. Cowboys: 0-1 in the division (Giants), and the only loss in the NFC. The other loss coming at the hands of Denver, who has beaten everybody thus far and have yet to lineup with the Giants and/or Eagles. When the schedule came out, thoughts of facing the NFC South produced it's share of perspiration. We're 3-0 there with the Saints remaining, who have already beaten both the Eagles and Giants. As pointed out, our division foes have yet to play Atlanta.

This division will come down to the Cowboys and Giants, dare I say. When just two short months ago the so-called experts would have you believing that the Eagles were going to the Super Bowl. They think they have problems now (calls for Kolb are beginning to stir), wait until after the Giants and Cowboys come to visit.

I said all along that this offense will score points, that this defense will just need some time to figure things out. You can practice all you want, but until you're game-tested you can't begin to develop. They're developing, and finding some much needed leadership behind Keith Brooking along the way.

It's game on in the NFC East, and the Cowboys are right in the thick of it.

It's been great that he's put in the work to better protect the football, but mix that in with his ability to move around extending the play and find the open receiver. He's tried to turn himself into a disciplined pocket passer but that's not what he is. Being a little on the smallish side behind such a huge line does not fascilitate that. He makes plays outside of the pocket and his career stats clearly point that out. His numbers are actually significantly better from outside of the pocket than in it. I was screaming for this last Sunday but didn't see it until he was flushed out of the pocket in the closing minutes when he hit Hurd that took them down to the red zone. His best play of the day... from outside of the pocket. That's the Romo we need. That's the Romo that set records in 2007 and took the league by storm. Nobody could stop him... but himself. And now he has.As for Roy Williams. Pure disappointment. He thinks he can play Sunday with his bruised ribs. Wade's not so sure. I say sit his ### and activate Kevin Ogletree. Crayton is what he is, which is fine if they can find somebody on the outside who can get open and make plays. I say the jury is still out on Austin until he and Romo can get on the same page on a consistent basis. Somebody on this receiving corp needs to step up and do something.

Yup. Good call.I have said this before in another time and place but Tom Brady is one of the worst good players in the league he could pattern his game after. Actually Peyton Manning would be the absolute worst but Brady is up there. Romo is not a strict pocket passer and it looks like he is recognizing that. He certainly does better when he uses his legs to run for a couple of first downs as well as looking up field. It helps him in every phase of his game. It slows the pass rush, it moves the chains and it gives his team an emotional lift.I hope he keeps up this trend.

After a seemingly injury-free week for the Cowboys, one of their best defensive players is now questionable to play Sunday.

Jay Ratliff, a Pro Bowl defensive tackle is having even a better season in 2009, sustained a knee injury in practice Friday. The Cowboys are still evaluating him and his status is uncertain for the game.

The Cowboys practiced indoors Friday at Carroll High School in nearby Southlake, one of their many practice spots of this season. The indoor bubble covers a 50-yard artificial turf field.

In six games this season, Ratliff has 31 tackles and 2.0 sacks, along with a team-high five tackles for loss.

I have some news to pass along here concerning local coverage of the Cowboys, namely bloggers, and how some changes have been taking place pertaining to websites. Not sure where to start. There's alot.

The advertising contracts for that portion of the website expire at the end of this month (October). Sturm will continue to blog at another site. I will bring it to you when he gets settled in with it. For now, you can follow him here- http://sturminator.blogspot.com/

Second of all, with the infusion of espn.com/dallas, a number of Dallas Morning News bloggers have abandoned ship, including Tim MacMahon and Calvin Watkins. Matt Mosley bailed a couple of years ago to join the espn ranks. You may have noticed some new faces at the DMN blog in recent weeks. This is a big reason why. That, and there have been some continuous problems going on at DMN for some time now. Some of it has to do with scalebacks and a growing sharemenship with the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram that began at the first of the year. This is where Watkins had come from. It all falls back on the failing newspaper industry.

Just wanted to bring everybody up to speed as best I can in the light of these new developments. Not that it changes the news a lot, but only from whom it's coming from. However, I think we'd all be in agreeance that some are better than others.

Getting back to the Cowboys, there has been some stir this week concerning Miles Austin's contract. He's a 4th year player in the last year of his deal. If you recall, I had made some mention of this last spring in our offseason thread. Now that DeMarcus Ware has finally been appropriately attended to, it would appear that Austin might be next in line. It should be pointed out that Jerry Jones struck early in re-signing players such as Jay Ratliff, Patrick Crayton, and especially Marion Barber in recent years. So now the discussion has turned to Miles. Should Jerry wait, or not? With no CBA in place, Austin would again become a "restricted" free agent next offseason, just as he was last spring. If they were to tender him again, he would become a "restricted" free agent yet again in the offseason in 2011. You can see where this might get tricky. And with Austin's emergence, quite the hot topic.

FWIW, I hated MacMahon. He was the reason I left their blog. Still, I'm reluctant to go back knowing there is a home here. I was in Dallas last weekend for the Falcons game, and most of my brethren were talking about espn.com/dallas. I guess they really mean business.

As for Austin, I'm not worried about him going anywhere. Jets had their chance and they blew it.

Right. If they don't agree on a multi year deal just offer him the 1st and 3rd round tender (which was only $2,792,000. for this season) then a team will have to offer him a contract the Cowboys won't match and then give up a 1st and 3rd round pick if they don't. Not likely to happen.I think he's worth it.

Last year the Seahawks got smoked 34-9 by the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. Romo carved up the Seahawk secondary to the tune of 331 yards and 3 tds.
