Official Dallas Cowboys In Season Thread (1 Viewer)

What if we have to "franchise" Austin?....good grief. I love what Austin is doing but he would have to keep this pace up for us to offer what? 9 mil next season at the least?

Romo's got his mojo back. I'd be watching for the "Return of the Jedi."

The "Jedi" is back! ;)

I'll be watching for some game planning that will make the Eagles take notice for next week.

That's an interesting question, although I don't think "have to" plays into the equation. It's not like he's a Pro Bowler at this stage in his career, or if he ever will be.

Many people think he will keep it up. Probably not the History setting pace that he is on right now but I expect him to have a heck of a year. Regardless his contract situation shouldn't be a problem. We hold all of the cards and he doesn't seem like the type of guy who is going to want more than he is worth.

This division will come down to the Cowboys and Giants, dare I say. When just two short months ago the so-called experts would have you believing that the Eagles were going to the Super Bowl. :lmao: They think they have problems now (calls for Kolb are beginning to stir), wait until after the Giants and Cowboys come to visit.
As much as I hate the Eagles, I've learned you can never count them out, especially near the end of the season. Very mentally tough and resilient team.So pretty much the opposite of the Cowboys.

An update on Cowboys' NT Ratliff

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said Friday that Pro Bowl nose tackle Jay Ratliff injured his right knee during Thursday's practice and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Seahawks. Ratliff didn't practice Friday while undergoing treatments on his knee.

But a team source told me earlier this afternoon that he'd be "shocked" if Ratliff wasn't on the field Sunday.

Good stuff Andy.Rat is one of about five injueries we would not survive for a long period of time.

Rat is our best defensive players other than, maybe D Ware. i hope hes on the field, unless he needs to be out. we need him on the field at the end of the season.

At the rate CBA is going nobody is gonna franchise anything in the offseason. The whole concept may go away.

Just got word that Ratliff will indeed play today.

Playing with numbers (and killing time):

Tony Romo is one of only two starting QBs to have put up a QB rating of over 90.0 in each of the past 3 seasons.

Who can name the other?

Miles Austin is 6' 3" and currently weighs in at 212 (as of this week).

At the scouting combine in 2006 he ran a 4.4 40, but feels he's faster now.

He also put up 21 reps of 225 on the bench press. He's probably even stronger now.

The roof will be closed today, but the end zone doors will be open.

WR Kevin Ogletree is active today, as is Jay Ratliff. He will start.

Inactives:

Allen Rossum

Curtis Johnson

Mike Hamlin

Duke Preston

Pat McQuistan

Stephen McGee

Jason Williams

Montrae Holland

Romo is one of only "two."Peyton Manning is the other.

Ratliff has a bruised knee only. No ligament damage.

May be dealing with a cartilage issue. Nothing confirmed there.

Newman and Jenkins will stick to playing their designated sides.

Not assigning Newman to T.J.

Look for Seattle to pull out a tough win. They have the Cowboy's #. In particular look for Romo to play like crap.

Just a hunch.
 Last year the Seahawks got smoked 34-9 by the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. Romo carved up the Seahawk secondary to the tune of 331 yards and 3 tds.
You and I both could of played WR for the Seahawks last year. :) This year we could both play O-Line, but I still think Seattle wins a tough one.

Ummm....No. The Cowboys D takes it to the Seahawks. Hasselback may not last the whole game. Cowboys win in a rout. 37-17.

Your still missing the point your defense allowed 34 points last year and are without Tatupu and have a banged up secondary. I fail to see how they will slow down the Cowboys offense.

Problem is that if we had signed one of those guys back when you wanted them we probably would'nt know what a player we have in Austin right now.

Another excellent game.

Oh so many positives

Dallas seems to have trouble predicting what the offense is going to try to do during the 1st drive but they appear to make adjustments well afterwards.

Our special teams unit has been great. These are the best coverage units I have seen us have in quite some time. The only bone I can pick is with the kickoff returns. Seems like we need a little work there.

I know that I already mentioned special teams but how about our kicker and punter? Those guys are game changers.

What can you say about Tony Romo? The guy has been playing at a superior level. He seems to have found that little something that made him special his first year and a half. I think it has alot to do with him scrambling more. He seems to feed off of it. Having a WR like Austin that he can trust has alot to do with it as well I am sure.

Roy is close. I can feel it.

Austin. I can't say enough about the guy. His energy has been a needed shot in the arm for our offense. I am glad they cut loose the old dead weight and went with youth this season. You can see it paying off. Our other WRs are really coming along as well.

I love Barber but why are they making him play with a leg that makes him look like my son when he is playing horsy? He is making some plays despite it but it seems like it is only a matter of time before it leads to another injury.

Brooking and Sensabaugh are really paying off.

Who is that Carpenter kid out there making plays?

Our corners are not only covering well but they are laying the wood as well. Love it.

How about that Felix Jones pimp slap? Ken Lucas will be seeing number 28 in his nightmares.

One Negative-

Jason Garret needs to take those Austin run plays out of his playbook. Anyone over 6 foot doen't need to be running a reverse. It's an injury waiting to happen.

If I see Jason on the street I am going to hold him down while my 4 year old son gives him a spanking until he agrees to stop running those.

This is becoming quite a team. Emphasis on team. You can tell that these guys are making a concerted effort to bring everyone together. There won't be any backstabbing in this group.

I can't wait until next week.

44-6

it was really nice to see an efficient, team effort. only the one fumble by Romo late, and very few (2 i think) penalties. GOOD JOB O-LINE!!!this team has the players, we know that. IF they can keep playing disciplined football, (yes the Cowboys are playing disciplined :goodposting: ) they can play with anyone.

On Carpenter. He got the sack and that was good. BTW it seems like our middle linebackers get 1-2 clean shots at sacks every game. That's good strategy right there.

The other thing to keep in mind on Carpenter is that he and Sensabaugh are the ones who are covering the TEs and so far they have done a great job. I wish Carpenter was more physical and didn't get dozed over by any offensive lineman that happens to be going his way but at least he has shown an ability to cover. He is also good at containing scrambling QBs. As long as they can keep him in the nickle he should be fine.

That being said, I can't wait to see Jason Williams and see what he can do when he is ready.

oh i agree, getting sacks due to too many guys to block is just good defensive play calling. Carp was in the right place at the right time. he is not a playmaker. never will be.this is my problem with Carp. he's just not physical enough. but yes, he can cover. he was not worth the 1st round pick. oh well, as long as he finds a way to contribute i guess.

Sensabaugh, now he brings the wood, baby!

Wow what a game reminds me of early 2007 when they started off the season hot. Hard not to get excited about this team but the past has taught Cowboys fans to not to get emotional.

I love watching Felix run it looks like he is going to be stopped for a 2 yard but somehow he spins or cuts and gains 7+ yards.

While I loved the trade for Roy W. I must say that it will be an incredible waste if he is only good for downfield blocking, with that being said I see the potential as he has been able to get open. With time i believe Romo and Roy will get on the same page.

Wade has impressed me with his defensive playcalling. It seems that he only needs one drive to understand what the offense is doing and then he make adjustments and puts the clamps on. The two inside blitzes (Brooking and Carp sacks) were great playcalls. I cant wait for Sensabaughs cast to come off he should have 2 interceptions in the past 2 weeks. We must only play a Cover 1 because I NEVER hear Hamlin's name but i am always hearing Sensabaughs name.

I have to admit I was scratching my head when Jerry drafted Buehler but after 8 weeks he is leading the league in touchbacks.

On a positive note this is only Week 2 so this loss while painful is not the end of the world.
Yeah. Delay the obvious. Inevitable. No MB for a while, the defense is terrible. The last two games should be an indication of what to expect. Yes, I know they got scoreboard on TB, but they did not look good on D then...looked awful tonight. This does not bode well.
Nice to see your back on the bandwagon

 Seriously? This has nothing to do with being on or off the bandwagon. This team has some serious work to do, if we think we're going to move forward in the playoff push. Other than Atlanta, what team have we beaten that was an impressive victory? Carolina? Kansas City? Seattle? Tampa Bay? We lost to the Giants and Denver. If we really have any aspirations of going deep in the playoffs (which I have), we need to play a lot cleaner, smarter, more efficiently than we have.Don't let our record fool you. There is a ton of work this team needs to do if it's going to be a serious contender.

Well boys here we are 5-2 tied for the division lead. The Eagles are the final step to get over what happen last season to this team. I think they can do it and would love to see it. This is the one game that would give this team the confidence to know they can do anything. This game means a lot. Let's do this!!

I can certainly agree that this team has work to do to reach their goals. After the losses to Denver and NY I didnt buy into the hype that the season was over which it sounds like you did. I also didnt agree with the other posters who called it a must win. The point im making is that you shouldnt get too high/low after win/loss. Its a 16 game season at this point last year the Redskins were 6-2 and had already bought playoff tickets. Needless to say it didnt quit work out.

My problem is with how they have won/lost their games. It's a terribly undisciplined team, a reflection of poor coaching. I can be hopeful, but not sold on this team. That said, the fact that the coaching staff has finally figured it out about Miles Austin enough to give him the starting gig gives me hope that they're not completely inept/dense.

Fair enough its frustrating to think how close this team was to going 7-0

I don't blame penalties on the coaches. I have seen too many good coaches have their teams rack up penalties to fall into that trap.

Penalties that are a result of bad coaching or poor discipline are (holding, pass interference, delay of game, illegal formation and some personal fouls. (Those usually fall on the coaches because they are in the majority of times the result of poor technique, poor position, poor strategy and poor communication.)

Offsides and false starts aren't coaching issues in my book. Those fall on the player and I don't really mind them in most cases because it is a result of the player either being aggressive or trying to protect the Qb.

It's interesting because the coaching decisions on who get's playing time has left me shaking my head as well. They seem to be very conservative when it comes to starting unproven or younger guys over veterans.

I can see where they might have some difficulty identifying Austin's talent however. He has had opportunities in games and not blown up until the KC game. He has good speed but he doesn't get wide open like some fast guys. DeSean Jackson, Steve Smith, Randy Moss etc.

He has had troubles staying healthy in the past.

He has good hands but not great hands so he wouldn't wow them in practice there.

He has good chemistry with Romo but that probably woudn't show up that much in practice either.

His talent is that he is good all around and is really hard to bring down which would be hard to see in practice because they don't take offensive players to the ground. I am sure many times in practice it probably looked like he would get tackled on the spot. Obviously that is not the case.

He is a good player who is only getting better as he gains confidence and Romo gains confidence in him.

I will say that the coaching this season seems much better than it was last season so I am optimistic that they have a better grasp of their players and how to use them.

The team is picking up steam, I was glad to see us not get a slew of penalties. Let's hope we keep the momentum going, F Philly!
