First of all, I'm an Ohio native who moved to Dallas in 1998. Just to clear that up.Second of all, it was the combination of the two points that I was trying to express as a "strange picture."Seriously? I know you're an out of state Dallas Cowboy homer, but you really think it's strange that Wade doesn't have an extension? Jerry tends to make rash decisions on a whim, but not extending Wade is the absolute best decision he's made in a long time. Wade is great if you like comedic value but otherwise I fail to see what he brings to the table. "Mr. Fix-it" was put into a cherry position taking over an up and coming young talented team from Parcells. He's done nothing but help it erode. There is no toughness, no chip on the shoulder, and no heart. Next year when he's sitting at home in his recliner watching the Cowboys he will close his eyes and fondly remember the year he led them to the "final eight". I'm not a big Cowboy fan so I would love to see Wade stay, but everyone with half a brain knows Wade is a goner. Even a Super Bowl win couldn't save him.No purpose intended here to defend Wade Phillips, but here are a couple of interesting notes regarding him.
1. Since 2007, only Bill Belichick has more wins as head coach than Wade Phillips.
2. Currently, Wade Phillips is the only current head coach without a contract extending into 2010.
That's a strange picture.
You mean successor? As those who frequent "Cowboys" threads can attest, I've had my finger pointed towards Mike Holmgren as Wade's predecessor for quite some time now.
Oops. Ya, sorry. Thanks Ariakis. You mean successor? As those who frequent "Cowboys" threads can attest, I've had my finger pointed towards Mike Holmgren as Wade's predecessor for quite some time now.

Wow. Some really great posts on this page (23), most notably from Reacher, Ridgelake and Chaos Commish.I like all 3 points made here, especially #1 and #2.I agree with you Ridgelake. Great post. But I will qualify it on the Coaching.Yesterday reminded me so much of the Pittsburgh game last year. Dallas destroyed their opponent statistically. But some timely turnovers, bad tackling, penalties, and special teams miscues turned the game over to the opponent.
Do you blame the coaches on the inability to fence in the punt returner when he sure looked like he was going for nothing? Do you blame the coaches when Jacobs runs down the sideline and the safety gets held while trying to make the saving tackle? Do you blame the coaches when your time of posession advantage is 39 mintes to 21 minutes, yards 424-337, and also win the turnover battle?
Do you blame the coaches when the December problems havea carried over several adminstrations, including the infamous hard-### Parcells? Actually, I kind of do blame Parcells on some of those December slides, because it became clear that he was unwilling to alter his approach and adapt to what the opponents were doing.
I don't know what the answer is. I do know that the schedule has been less-than-favorable the last 2 years. Last year, Romo gets all the blame for a bad December, but look who he faced: NYG, Phi, Pitt, and Balt. All with defenses in the top 5 of the NFL last year. Think any QB will look good against that schedule? Think any QB will do as well there as he did the rest of the year?
I will say this. Dallas is playing a series of playoff caliber teams this December. If they can't win some, then they don't belong in the playoffs. Its as simple as that. It was Tuna who said that the games leading up to Thanksgiving were just to see who's in the dance. To get yourself in position. Its now that the real teams emerge. Dallas has a chance. They are in position. If they are good enough to win these games, they go to the playoffs where they belong. If they lose them, they aren't playoff worthy. Its really very simple.
They are poor on 3 things.
1. Garrett relies too much on the shotgun. Maybe this is something that Romo is more comfortable in, I don't know, but I don't think that you can be a power team in the Gun.
2, Garrett refuses to experiment with alternative personel at the WR and RB position. What is his problem with Choice and Ogletree? Those guys need to be more involved in the game. Choice especially. Give the guy a couple of series for crying out loud. He has earned them.
3. Garrett is still not mixing it up in his play calling. I haven't watched the game again to verify this but it sure felt like in the 2nd half, and maybe the whole game, that the only time we threw down field was on 3rd and long. We are playing one of the worst secondaries and most athletic front 7's in the league and we are throing short and screens? That seemed like a mistake to me.
I think it's cool we have an owner who's willing to take a chance to make things bigger and brighter. Obviously, nothing can take the place of winning, nothing. But we all know he's at least trying to win and win a SB at that. He recognizes that the NFL is a show and willing to try new things. I'm looking forward to seeing what it looks like at least. In the end, we need a big victory against SD. I want to see what Damarcus Ware diving into Phillip Rivers looks like in 3d.Oh boy.
The countdown is on before this latest Cowboys bashing opportunity finds it's way to it's own thread.

There is no hope dude. The season is over, they ain't winning anything. So what, they some how miraculously get into the playoffs, well 3 road games or 2 road games they have 0 chance at winning anything. Just wrap it up, should lose on purpose for higher picks. Team is DONE.This is a must win. We need to go 3-1. You go 2-2, most likely you do not win the division and the two main teams you are fighting with for the 2 wild card spots are the Giants and Packers both who hold the tie breakers vs Dallas. It is division or nothing imo. So what is better for Dallas, a Philly loss or a Giant loss? I say a Giant loss. Dallas can take care of their own destiny vs Philly in Dallas.
Really, if every team thought like you the NFL would suck. The Giants 2 years ago the Cards last year. Sh!!t just let the teams with the best records after 13 weeks play in the Super Bowl and forget about playing the season out. Damn dude you really need some time away from football cause you are never going to enjoy it with that attitude. There is no hope dude. The season is over, they ain't winning anything. Actually this has been the most enjoyable season of the NFL in a long time. I mean in the past few years the Cowboys were picked by Vegas to win the superbowl as the favorite coming into the season and then they would flat out not make the playoffs. I mean how big of a disappointment is that? This year you know they have no chance with the coaches they have so you have nothing to be disappointed about. I am having a great time watching them, every win is like gravy. Maybe they will win this weekend! That would be swell!!!Really, if every team thought like you the NFL would suck. That's pretty much it in a nutshell, and we definitely wanna pull for the Eagles tonight. As for the Cowboys, execution and discipline will be key today. We've got to be able to run the ball and stay out of 3rd and longs. This is a must win. We need to go 3-1. Everyone is dreading the upcoming schedule but if Dallas could beat Chargers today and somehow knock off the Saints, they would have momentum on their side heading into the playoffs just Arizona last year and the Giants before that.Must win game today. No question. I think Dallas can beat New Orleans and can beat Washington but Philly coming to Dallas isnt my idea of an easy win. Lets not forget last season. Chargers- game plan should be to run the ball... a lot. Dump the ball off a lot to Witten and the backs. Keep Rivers off the field. Have someone cover Gates like a glove, not a lineman/OLB either. Saints- The Redskins showed that this team is beatable. I think the Cowboys have the offense to outscore New Orleans, just keeping New Orleans off the field will be the tough part. Washington- Shouldnt be a hard game but they always play the Cowboys tough. This is the one game the Cowboys SHOULD win. Eagles- hopefully it wont come down to this game again to get into the playoffs....
I honestly think this team can beat the Chargers. I think having Wade Phillips is a huge advantage as well....for this game at least. I still hate Jason Garrett. Most predictable offense in the NFL...luckily he has start talent to aid his poor play calling.Everyone is dreading the upcoming schedule but if Dallas could beat Chargers today and somehow knock off the Saints, they would have momentum on their side heading into the playoffs just Arizona last year and the Giants before that.Must win game today. AZ lost 4 of there last 6 games last year. The games they lost were by 8, 28, 21 and 40 points but I do get your point.simmonjm said:Everyone is dreading the upcoming schedule but if Dallas could beat Chargers today and somehow knock off the Saints, they would have momentum on their side heading into the playoffs just Arizona last year and the Giants before that.Texasmouth said:Must win game today. Edited for content. Why is Nick Folk still on this team? He blamed the holds and the holds were perfectly fine before, but he used those as a scapegoat. WHATS THE ISSUE NOW? I hate seeing his cry baby face after each miss. Why do they even kick field goals? Field goal kickers are worthless, I would go for it on each and every 4th down. FIELD GOAL KICKERS! Thats how I run my team, 4 downs baby! NO MORE FIELD GOALS. Anyways, this <kicker> better not be on this team tomorrow.

I guess, but it's not like he's learning something new and it's a big stress on him. He's done it before and done it well. I respect his opinion but in the end, that's all it is, and it's not the one that counts.I can tell you this, there's a whole lot of Chargers fans here today. Hard to say just yet how the percentages might play out.Don't know just yet what the plan is for the roof and end zone doors. Temps will be approaching 70 by kickoff and it's sunny.Dallas' warmest part of the day is usually around 4pm.On a different note, Troy Aikman was saying this morning on Sporting News Network that he doesn't like the idea of Romo taking over the holding duties. He felt that finding somebody else, even if they were to bring somebody in, would have been a better resolution. His point being that he didn't like the idea of taking away from or forcing Romo to have to change up his practice routines at this point in the season, saying that "Romo has enough pressure on him as it is right now, and to add to it in this fashion isn't the way to go."ETA: Bob Sturm makes the same point (minutes ago) that Troy does, saying that "6 of the 8 inactives every week this season have been the same. Cut one of them and sign a freakin' holder!"
I asked in the game thread...can Bueler (sp?) kick FG's?

Im pretty sure its going to be Mike Holmgren. Didn't they already bring him in as some sort of consultant?Bill Cowher is my #1 pick for HC next season, since we know that Wade isn't gonna be back after another Dec. collapse. But let's face it, this team, even had they won today, is simply NOT in the same class as NO or Minn.
Yes. Big leg, but not known for accuracy. Just like Folk I guess.I asked in the game thread...can Bueler (sp?) kick FG's?![]()
I think i'd just rather lose and get a better draft pick. Or do we even get to have a first round pick? I think it was given away for that waste of space 50 million dollar #2 wide receiver we have. Now Ware is done, this team is really screwed. Best player on the team carted off the field. Not that it matters because this team WILL lose it's last 5 on the season but let's assume our lame duck coaching staff can turn things around ... if the Eagles win we still control our own destiny. If the Giants win it may come down to whether the Vikings have something to play for in week 17.
I'm no longer a "Banker". The new avatar stays though.OH...and this team is the suck.By the way, what's up with the name change Bankerguy (Hat trick)? Just curious.I guess you're in the market for a new avatar now, eh?
I hate to say it but I think this is what is going to happen. No heart and no leadership on the field or on the sidelines. I think the word "pathetic" has been overused at this point.Ariakis said:Looks like so far the Eagles are taking it to the Giants. Assuming that holds up ... we'd be sitting in the 6th playoff slot and 1 back of the Eagles. Assuming we lose to the Saints and beat the Skins we'd need the Eagles to lose one more game against someone at that point for week 17 to mean something against them. If we run the table we still win the division. We'll need the Broncos to beat the Eagles next week I'd think and the Vikes to beat the Giants in week 17. That said, this team very well could be 8-8 to finish the season on a 5 game losing streak. It could go either way at this point.
I would love to see Shanny come to Dallas with Kubaik as his OC. The Cowboys offense would be elite instantly. As for the defense I wish there was some way to keep Wade on as a DC and not Head Coach. Wade is one of the better defensive minds in the entire league. I realize the December losses are starting to add up but really the blame falls on the offense namely Garrett and Folk. Scoring 10 points midway through the 4th vs the Chargers and 17 vs the Giants (sans a late TD) will not win games late in the season. Anyone have any ideas why Folk looked so great the past couple of seasons and now looks like a steaming pile of #####?Texasmouth said:I dont want Cowah. I dont really want Holmgren either but he would be better than Cowah or what we have now. I would like to see Shanny come in here and bring Kubiak with him from Houston after he gets fired as well. I think Cowah is going to get the Carolina job because he will have a lot of control. Holmgren is going to want a lot of control too. Shanny on the other hand may not need as much...what the Cowboys could really use is a friggin GM.
I just worry about who the defensive coordinator will be. We have to stay with the 3-4 since we have all the players on defense for a 3-4.
Garrett is terrible. I would love to see him get fired after this loss. 10 points? 10 Points? The 4th down play was just plain ridiculous and it doesnt make any type of sense whatsoever. Isnt that what the fullback is for in the first place? To take on the first defender so the RB can get through? Terrible. The playcalling is just so predictable. If I think it is predictable, it has to be for NFL defensive coordinators.
Not sure what is going on with Nick Folk but this is the second loss he has had a huge part in. He was solid last year. Seems mental.

We have one pick in each round except the fifth. It went to Denver in the Montrae Holland deal.Routilla said:We need new coaches in the worst way. Also, can anyone (Andy) give us a breakdown on next year's draft picks? What rounds do we have? Thanks!
wade says he is inconsistent, but folk is too so idk.fasteddie_21 said:I asked in the game thread...can Bueler (sp?) kick FG's?![]()
This is how the Giants and Chargers had their way with us. Brady James is solid against the run but has been repeatly burnt in coverage.Well, Dallas, once again, proved that they can hang with the elite teams. But aren't good enough to throw away 10 points and still win. A recurring theme over the last couple of years.
Call me crazy, but I think we have a darn good chance to beat the Saints. For whatever reason, I think they pull it together. The Saints have barely been scraping by the last few weeks. They have all the pressure of the undefeated season and whatnot. That said, I could also see Dallas getting blown out. Especially if Payton finds a way to repeatedly get Bush isolated in space on our ILBs.
Imagine the complete reversal of outlook if Dallas somehow wins that game. Suddenly, they would be back in control of the division. As dark as things look now, there are many bright spots. This team still controls its own playoff destiny. How many teams in the NFL can still say that?
I'd argue the Chargers were NOT able to do that. At least not repeatedly. And the Giants weren't able to do it much either, though one instance was the Jacobs TD.Teams can and will pass on most any defender. The issue is how much, how often, and what it leads to point and first down wise. Basicly, what is the success percentage and the frequency of it. Teams have not been repeatedly exploiting this likeThis is how the Giants and Chargers had their way with us.
