Official Dallas Cowboys (1 Viewer)

Wow, two weeks ago everyone was talking super bowl now some are saying the cowboys will be lucky to make the playoffs....
I hate the excuse that when the Cowboys were winning superbowls they always lost in the preseason. They did. I remember. I also remember the offense coming out and totally dominating in about 8 plays then watching the backups on the sideline. That isn't happening here. That was our starting offense and defense getting schooled. If you are watching these games and you are not worried about our pass protection for Romo, our lack of any type of a running game and our defensive secondary then you are way more optimistic that I am.
How many wins are you predicting for the Cowboys in 2010? I have them penciled in for 10 possibly 11 winning the NFC East, Giants will be their main competition, as Skins finish 3rd and Eagles 4th.
7-9

gotta laugh at today's "blame game". As usual the radio jocks The Ticket, The Fan and ESPN locally found their old rap sheet and decided it was Wade's fault followed by Marion Barber as usual that were holding the 'Boys back from greatness. The jest was if Wade had made them practice harder and Barber would just go away then everything will be OK.

I get that we played very vanilla. There were times they went 4 wide + a TE and we stayed in base defense. But that has nothing to do with how badly we were whipped at the LOS on both sides of the ball. Thats the most discouraging thing of the whole game. Both our lines were atrocious.
I'm glad someone else pointed this out. As well, I would like to say Spears is very under rated by Cowboy fans and makes a big difference in the run game. It was obvious the Offense was out of sync and the team lacked interest and heart. 5 weeks of camp can do that to you. They are tired and want to go home...they get a pass for now.Really surprised they cut Sicko...perhaps a strategy to cut to him early to sneak him on the PS? Watkins...see ya!

Do not jump off a cliff about the preseason for the Cowboys. As well as any team that is lighting it up, don't get to high on them. Come to think of it though no team in the NFC East looked good in the preseason. I know this, come week 1 Sunday night the pain will be brought and the Skins and that home crowd will witness it and feel the pain as they exit.

This sh!!t is on like Donkey Kong

There's been some chatter recently that the Cowboys may be considering carrying only 2 QBs on the roster this season.

Likely in order to broaden the roster in other areas, and probably all the more reason they plan to play (and evaluate) McGee for the entire game tomorrow night.

Thoughts?

Bit of a risk with only 2 QB's on the roster, but McGee has looked like a bust so far, might as well cut bait and search for the next QB backup/replacement.

unless the O-line play improves significantly, carrying only two QB's might be askin for trouble.not sayin Mcgee is the 3rd, but we need some better protection for the QB position or Romo is gonna get killed out there.

I wouldnt mind them bringing in a younger journeyman but at the same time, I dont think anyone is going to come and steal McGee off of the practice squad either.

I don't see anybody plucking McGee before he hits the practice squad either, which is where he is most likely heading.

What has been making me wonder is if the Cowboys have been watching the Leinart situation out of the corner of their eye with thoughts of bringing him in as their future #2 at QB. Just to be clear, I was never a Leinart fan from the get-go, and was a strong Cutler guy when the Young, Leinart and Cutler draft rolled around, but Leinart might just make for a decent career backup here in Dallas if he were to agree to it. Just a thought.

As for tonight vs. Miami, what am I looking forward to? Seeing this preseason come to an end. Period.

This has been the most dismal preseason I can recall in recent years, whether it be the injuries, the poor execution, or the lack of spirit. Honestly, it's been depressing.

However, we've turned a significant page since then. That would be the page on our collective calendars. It's September now, and we all know what that means. It's time for football season. The real season. I know I feel it and would assume the rest of you do too. Why is that? It's because the clock in our minds and bodies tells us. And it's not just us. You know the players have to feel it too. Patrick Crayton said the other day that they've been spending time watching Redskins film this week. They know it's time, and they're spending two weeks to prepare. All the more reason we won't see the starters tonight. Their mind is on another matter. Opening night at Washington. It's the Redskins and Donovan McNabb. I have no doubt they'll be ready come Sept. 12th, and this whole traveling training camp debacle will fast become a thing of the past. We have 20 of 22 starters returning this season. It's not like they don't know how to play this game when the lights come on.

10 days and counting down...

Kevin Ogletree and Sam Hurd starting at WR tonight.

Akwasi Owusu-Ansah and Barry Church starting at safety.

Jay Ratliff loves rookie NT Josh Brent.

Says outright "he's going to be a player."

Rumors are abound all-of-the-sudden that the Cowboys may be looking to trade Patrick Crayton.

Jerry Jones would only remark that it was "a sensative situation."

It will be interesting to see if Crayton sees the field tonight.

I get the feeling he won't.

I smell a move coming.

And they are playing Miami...with a coaching staff that knows Crayton.I think it is a bad move to get rid of Crayton. He is a nice safety valve and is pretty reliable.

Interesting. I would only do it in one of two scenarios. We got a player that can help us this year.Crayton is raising a stink in the locker room.I doubt it is Miami. I think they have a pretty decent WR corp but maybe I am wrong.Teams I would expect would need WR help could be the Vikings. They need help but I can't see a scenario where we trade with them. The Jaguars. Connection with Jack Del Rio and their #2 (Mike Thomas) is better built for the slot. The Panthers. No number 2.The Raiders. Weak WRs all around.BTW I didn't get to watch the game tonight since it is not being shown in my area but from looking at the stats I am impressed with Buehler and I like McGee's stats. Did McGee look good?

I was really impressed with McGee tonight. He made some great throws especially the one to Hurd on a 45 yard streak. Pass was picture perfect. He has come such a long ways from last year. With his performance tonight I dont think he would make it to the practice squad. I for one would like McGee to be on the 53 man roster. Showed really great poise but still has alot of work left to do.Also Buehler looked good, he hit a 51 yarder with 10 yards to spare straight down the middle. He barely hooked in a FG from 45 yards and his other 2 were dead on.

McGee did look good. Showed good command of the offense overall. I think he makes the roster too. I can see him progressing into the #2 role by next season. I'd say LB Victor Butler solidified a roster spot for himself as well. Sean Lee made some nice plays in addition to a fumble recovery and a sack on two seperate plays. Ogletree had a nice game.Sounds like the Cowboys are going to somehow move, by trade or release, Crayton and Hurd in favor of Ogletree and Jesse Holley.

Jerry Jones said last night that Kyle Kosier was the only player of any real question to be ready for the opener among the Cowboys starters returning from injury.

Does it smell like the stuff you normally shovel?

Crayton or Hurd will be released in a money move. Both make about 2M this year which becomes guaranteed if they are on the opening day roster. Nobody will trade for Crayton. His biggest value is to Dallas.

If Bryant replaces Williams at some point this season who becomes the 3rd WR if Crayton is gone ?

Williams - why if he can't produce now ?

Hurd - he has never progressed beyond a WR 4.

Olgetree ?

Crayton leaving sucks in my opinion. I like the guy and he did a lot on this team. Great run blocker and great route runner. He made a lot of tough catches and got a lot of first downs.

I do have a lot of man love for Ogletree though. I hope they plug him right in where Crayton was. I hate Roy Williams. I wish we would have traded or released him instead of Crayton.

Hurd actually makes barely over $1 Mil but that is still a lot of money for a #4 WR.

Hurd and Ogletree were both really solid in the last preseason game. I think the way Ogletree played made them a lot more comfortable with trading Crayton.

No one with any credibility is saying MBIII is getting traded.

 Sad to see Crayton go, great find in the 7th round. Even though he dropped a sure fire touchdown against the Giants in the playoffs in 2007, he really helped to stabilize the WR corp during his time here.

crayton was unhappy and becoming a bad presence in the lockerroom, no?

not sure about the details, but seems to me both the Cowboys and Crayton will be happier with the split.

If we can get a 2nd or early third...I would move Barber. I think Choice is the real deal.
i agree. and i'l add that the Cowboys organization should be gearing up to make significant moves to improve their O-line over the next several yrs. moving MB could help substantially.

Hit the nail on the head here.I liked Crayton too, as others have mentioned, but it was time.

From the Dallas Morning News --'Crayton is scheduled to make $2 million this season. Hurd is on the books for $1.759 million. The club is likely to carry one of those salaries, but not both. '

Haven't heard anything on the Marion Barber front. Sounds bogus to me. For one, I don't think he holds enough significant value right now. Two, I don't see the Cowboys sticking their neck out that far. They know as well as anybody that having 3 capable RBs can hold a great deal of advantages over a long run, and the Cowboys are anticipating just that-a long run.

This is really my only concern after Safety and the oline. He seems to miss everything over 50.Andy and everybody else, admittedly I haven't watched nay of the preseason, so I haven't heard jack about our corners. Newman always has the injury bug, and Jenkins was looking like he was becoming a monster.Who is playing the nickle? Has Newman trained harder in the offseason to fight the injury bug? Jenkins hasn't let last years play get into his head, has he?

I'll always associate that play with him. If he had made that catch, his career would be different.

Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas reports that the Cowboys are fielding trade offers from teams about Marion Barber and Tashard Choice.

Watkins cites "multiple sources," but one source tells ESPN's Matt Mosley that the team will not trade Barber. It's interesting to note that the story does not downplay the possibility of Choice being dealt. Though a trade seems unlikely, Dallas is in wheeling-and-dealing mode, having sent away Patrick Crayton and Pat McQuistan on Friday. Check back Saturday for an update.

Everything over 50yards? Just saying.

I think Beuhler won't have any more problem hitting a 50 yarders than he does a 40 yarder. With his leg, distance shouldn't be an issue. What I worry about for him is when he has to make those kicks that are not down the middle of the field and kicks in windy conditions. He might have it but I haven't seen enough to know yet.

Sorry to see Crayton go but he wasn't happy and, like Ellis, he wouldn't be content to just sit back and play his new role. Hope things work out for him in San Diego.

BTW

I don't see them trading Choice or Barber this year. They won't go into the season with just 2 runningbacks and none of the Free Agents on their roster have shown me anything.

Orlando Scandrick is playing nickle role, and Cletis Gordon will be the #4 CB. Newman looks healthy and is making plays. Jenkins is picking up where he left off from last season. This defense will be great with the pressure from front 7 and lockdown secondary.

On yesterday's trades, the Cowboys are getting Miami's 6th round pick in 2011 for McQuistan.

As for Crayton, the 7th round pick from San Diego (2011) turns into a 6th if Crayton hauls in 40 receptions. I can see that as being attainable and something to cheer/root for.

As to the resurfacing (from last night) of this on again off again trade talk surrounding Barber and now Choice, I would have to think the asking price is pretty high. If there is any truth to it, I would have to think it directly involves creating an additional roster spot elsewhere and they would simply place Herb Donaldson or Lonyae Miller on the practice squad.

I would hope to think that they are being firm in asking for a 2nd round pick and find no takers. They may be just throwing that out there to see if anybody bites.

The Cowboys can swap 6th round picks with Miami if Miami has a worse record.

Among those considered to be on the bubble include S Barry Church, CB Bryan McCann, FB Chris Gronkowski, WR Jesse Holley, and TE Martin Rucker.

Would really like to see them find a way to keep Church and McCann. Gronkowski...meh....Jesse Holley I dont love either. Would rather them keep a S and CB than a 3rd QB, even though I like McGee.

Sam Hurd turns down paycut, Cowboys' decision toughens Posted at 12:31 PM on Sat., Sep. 4, 2010 | Permalink | Todd Archer / Reporter Bio | E-mail | News tipsIf the Cowboys are going to keep Sam Hurd on their final 53-man roster, then it will have to be for is $1.759 million price tag.According to sources, Hurd turned down a request to accept a pay cut to guarantee his spot. The Cowboys approached Hurd this week about lowering his base salary while having a chance to earn the difference back with incentives. The Cowboys traded Patrick Crayton and his $2 million base salary on Friday to San Diego.Hurd is willing to take the chance on his release because he is looking for more of an opportunity as a wide receiver. With the Cowboys he would be No. 4 or 5 behind Miles Austin, Roy Williams and Dez Bryant and possibly Kevin Ogletree. With another team, he could work into the rotation more quickly.Hurd is the Cowboys' best returning special teams player. He plays on all of the coverage and return teams. The Cowboys have already cut Pat Watkins and other special teamers from 2009, like Steve Octavien and Deon Anderson, are in danger of being released.

Church is the guy that stands out here most to me. Of course, I've been on his bandwagon since he was brought in.I've been thinking all along he would spend this season on the practice squad, but maybe the Cowboys are feeling reluctant in trying to pass him thru waivers.
