If the GOP really finds a way to not nominate Trump or Cruz, they could run the homeless guy that begs outside of Chipolte and I'll vote for him.

 
One thing that Obama did in 08 to overcome arguments about lack of experience and private sector resume was the fact that his campaign was so well run and organized.

Not here with Trump, we're getting a glimpse into what would be a highly dysfunctional presidency.

Currently, my favorite Trump shtick is the "I'm going to be so presidential, you wouldn't believe it." as if it's not something that should already be inherent.

Trump has trouble merely acting like a civilized human being let alone a president.

I think a lot of this stuff is over-the-top shtick.  I get that Trump acts crazy.  But he's no crazier than Cruz.  I've listened to radio interviews, watched speeches, etc.  He's a very bright guy and has a long record of being a solid businessman.  

Is his "off the cuff" style presidential?  Probably not.  There's a reason Obama uses a teleprompter.  So he doesn't say something stupid.  I'm sure Obama has some thoughts in his head that if expressed would enrage a lot of people.  But as a president you don't say them.

Trump just operates without the filter and says what's on his mind.  I think his contribution to the race will ultimately be that some smart politician somewhere will see the value in what Trump is doing and try to be a little more normal, while not taking it to the extremes that Trump does at times.

There's a difference between being crazy and acting crazy. I actually think Trump is practically benign in comparison to Cruz but to a layman, whose only source of information pertaining to this election may come in the form of soundbites, Trump likely comes across as clinically insane. That of course implies that the crazy isn't appealing to you, in which case he will likely get your vote.

I don't care about his "off the cuff" style either. You can improvise and still act civilized. Ever since he's entered the race the entire thing has essentially devolved into a bunch of ad hominem attacks and ego stroking. This election cycle has about as much substance as The Real Housewives of *insert city*.

Trump is over-the-top, the criticism of him really, truly isn't.  

 
The Wisconsin state government accountability board is investigating if Trump broke state law about electioneering at a polling location.

Remember that time when people said Trump probably had a ceiling of 35-40% and it might not help him when other candidates dropped out and the Trumpies freaked?  Not sure what reminded me of that tonight.

So he's losing tonight. And he can't get above 50%. 

But he's still going to have a lot more votes than any other candidate. If they deny him the nomination, it's going to feel rigged to a lot of people.

At this point in time, but if he keeps on this downward trajectory some of the 'how can you deny the people' luster will have worn off.  

 
Yeah the idea of someone winning a primary is really a falacy. You win, but your opponent gets enough votes to get 15 delegates and you really don't get that much of a victory.

The ONLY reason that people don't understand the delegate rules is that NO ONE HAS EVER BEEN THIS BAD AT IT.

I've heard the Super Delegate situation on the Democratic side explained repeatedly on television.  It was out there in 2008 as well.  Nothing has changed.  People just don't pay enough attention from cycle to cycle.  The Republicans are usually wrapped up by now.  I think both parties voters expect if their guy wins a primary or gets the most votes, they should win.  Only those who follow politics really know that isn't the case.

Bernie hasn't done a great job either by your standards since I've seen Chuck Todd explaining super delegates to the masses on MSNBC more times than I can count.  The electorate in general just isn't that bright.  It's not Bernie's fault and it's not Trump's.

It's been weird, both parties. Usually one to both parties has a presumptive nominee at this point, and once they get past Super Tuesday or so they start gaining momentum and they become the consensus candidate, that's what we're used to. I guess 2008 for the Dems was an exception.

Here both Trump and Hillary looked (to me) like they were well on their way, but they have been getting dragged down. Really 2008 should have clued Dem voters in to the process. The GOP hasn't had a challenge this late since 1976 IIRC.

It's still true that Trump has done a terrible job of even understanding the process himself, it's not trickery, he's getting smoked on the basics.

He is, but the field of candidates this year is god-awful as a whole.  I'm sitting here listening to Ted Cruz and thinking no bleeping way.

Republicans had the opportunity to choose a decent candidate that could beat Clinton.  Instead they chose the two worst candidates who have no chance of beating Clinton.  

The Democratic party thanks them.

Trump is a better option than Cruz no matter what philosophical leaning you have, unless you are fringe right.  The cheerleading around here seems like people are thinking with their personal emotions, not their heads.  I think the Cruz vote tonight was a good bit anti-Trump moreso than pro Cruz.  I actually voted for Kasich, but that's just my opinion.

Fair enough.  I have no doubt Cruz fervently believes in what he's saying and it wasn't meant as any kind of slam to someone who supports him.  But everyone I know who does support him will proudly tell you they are pretty far right politically.  That includes social issues as well as economic.  He's just not for me so any slam I make toward Cruz is toward my feelings about him in general.

My comment originally was more to mean most of those happy over this result seemed to be from the left so it's more a snark move than a genuine happiness over Cruz's win.  I don't think many of those guys would really like what a Cruz win in November would mean, and they know that.  Granted, they may think that's unlikely even if Cruz is the nominee via a contested convention.  I seriously doubt though if Cruz does appear that he at some point may win that anyone to the left will truly feel Cruz is somehow less "dangerous" than they feel Trump is.  Howard Dean spoke about this at length on television a week or two ago trying to ramp down some of this apparent angst over Trump, explaining how Cruz was more dangerous to the left.

Ted Cruz has overtaken Donald Trump nationally in a Reuters tracking poll, leading by a 39-37 margin on Tuesday. The poll shows Trump has run into serious trouble over the past week, which saw campaign manager Corey Lewandowski arrested for battery for grabbing a reporter and Trump change his position on abortion three times after there should be "punishment" for women who terminate their pregnancies. Trump has frequently cited the Reuters tracking poll in speeches and on television.

Cruz is on a 5 state win streak. He's going to finish cleaning up in CO this weekend too.

But now he goes into NY, and then PA & the 4 coastal states.

Trump's at 56% in NY. Cruz has to hold him below 50 to share the delegates, otherwise it's WTA and maybe anothe momentum shift.

I'm guessing Cruz is regretting those "New York values" swipes right about now.

 
Hilarious that dsfguy, higgs, rbm, hell toupee, and card trader all went into hiding last night. 5 guys who love running their mouths suddenly turn into Sallies when their messiah gets his ### handed to him.  What's wrong guys? Not feeling quite so talkative lately?  :lmao:
