In many ways it is the boy who cried wolf...the dems have disparaged anyone who they have deemed a threat dating back to Reagan...pretty much every Republican that has challenged them has been attacked with many of the same labels that are now being thrown at Trump...I think many are tired of this tactic...if Hillary wants to defeat Trump I don't think this strategy will be the way to go...if she wants to win she should show why a continuation of the past eight years is a winning formula for our country as well as why the American people can trust her to be her their Commander-in-Chief...
I don't ever recall HW being called a xenophobic, bigoted, ignorant, petulant moron.  Pretty sure those are fairly new to Trump, though ignorant and moron were certainly lobbed about regarding Palin.

I agree with all of this. And you're especially right, IMO, about the boy who cried wolf part. When Democrats spend so many years implying that every prominent Republican is a racist, a bigot, and a misogynyst, nobody takes them seriously when the real thing comes along.

But make no mistake: this IS the real thing.

Guessing you've never heard talk radio, i.e. Rush, Hannity, Beck, etc.

He was actually treated pretty well...that is a good example...but overall I would say that is not the norm...

I have no issues with guys like that...just like I don't with someone like Maddow on the liberal-side...they are on the entertainment side of things and they readily admit who they are...they do not pretend to be anything different...if you don't like them than switch the dial or channel...

Exactly, I'm not sure how people that were on the fence would feel about that speech. He made America sound like we're going down the crapper and the only way anything will be fixed is if we elect him and only him. If people were hoping for specifics from him, they're going to be waiting awhile.
Its probably stuff like the Dallas shooting that makes people feel the country is going down the crapper.  Trump tapped into it in a way that Hillary may not be willing to go.

Basically the speech was "America sucks and only I can fix it". I reject both the former and the latter. Thanks for calling the country a ####hole though. Go away with this rhetoric.

The Don. Hating on America to convince people that only He can Make America Great Again. Pathetic.

Your statement was "dems have disparaged anyone they deem a threat". The talk radio guys, everyone who eats up their tripe, and elected officials have disparaged dems for years including the Clintons, Reed, Pelosi, Obama. The list goes on and on. I mentioned talk radio because that only amplifies the disparagement.

The GOP is no stranger to taking it's shots as well...anyone who thinks either side is clean is delusional...but overall it feels like the shots taken at the GOP heavyweights are usually of the same ilk and this may have lost some of the effectiveness...

Both sides do it is all you needed to say.

Yes and no...both sides do it...that is a certainty...but I believe the difference (and I am sure you will disagree) is the barbs being thrown at Trump are similar to many we have heard on other Republicans...it is somewhat boilerplate and due to that they may have some effectiveness (which I believe was what got this discussion going...not the overall name-calling from both sides)...

No, Trump is in his own category. And the barbs being thrown at him are coming from conservatives and liberals.

This is what they did to Mitt and her cowered . He , at that time was a good guy , was just unfairly smeared by the give me crowd and the do-gooder elites.

Trump is a different cat and will hit back hard

But see whether Trump hits back hard or not, he deserves to be called a racist and all the rest. Romney did not.

And your resentment at Democrats calling many conservatives racist, which is merited, doesn't excuse your support for a guy who actually is.

Sir, while I do not admire your pro-Trump schtick, I do at least admire its consistency.

Very good week for Trump. His family was outstanding, his fiery NY/NJ crew of Rudy and Christie brought the pain, he proved to be the bigger man in the Cruz war, and his speech was a home run.

I'm pretty shocked it went so well. The level of frustration from the media and the regulars in here is thru the roof which is a great sign. No violence from the waste of life protesters also a huge positive.

Thanks for the reminder! Still have to watch crazy uncle Rudy.

Here's the whole thing. He does the whole "I'm not saying his dad killed JFK, I'm just pointing out that someone else said it" bit.

What a piece of garbage. I have no idea how anyone can compare his brand of fraud and sleaze to other politicians of our era.  This is way beneath the conduct of anyone else on the national stage from either party, at least in recent memory.

He was talking up the National Enquirer before that, saying how it doesn't get enough respect. No joke.

Politicians have been doing much smaller versions of this forever to get elected.   He just decided F it, it can all be a lie it doesn't matter if it gets votes.   He is crushing them at the game they invented.  You don't want honest politicians?   White lies don't matter?   This is what you get.

This is what we get?  We're not all in the same boat here, my friend. I'm not the one whose idea of raising standards of political discourse is spending two weeks calling people "Hildos" on an internet message board. This is your idea of acceptable politics, not mine.

Also don't you think maybe the "much smaller versions of this" distinction is kind of important here?

Of course, but once you open the door, sooner or later the flood gates open.

Not if we don't want them to open.  All we have to do is reject his unique brand of sleaze by not voting for him.  We get to draw the line.  It really is just that simple.  And the larger the margin by which he loses, the stronger the rejection.

And last night that white haired idiot on CNN was actually comparing Trump to FDR.

I love that term for here at FBG HRC honks, just fits well.   Yes, it is probably not the most adult thing but unfortunately that is me sometimes.

They attacked Mitt with his words and his policies.

And you said Mitt was a good guy at the time.  Why is he no longer a good guy?  Because he called Trump a racist, a bigot and a misogynist?  Is this the type of attack that people are supposed to be sick of?  The previous Republican nominee calling the current nominee a bigot?  Is that the same old, same old attack?

The funny thing is that there really aren't a lot of HRC "honks" around here.  Tim probably fits the bill, although I suspect some of his work is trolling. But IMO the rest of us think she's merely passable and acceptable.  We (or at least I) get fired up because a decent amount of the criticism of her is unfair or misleading or exaggerated, because the only other potential winner is November appears to be an unprecedented disaster, and because unfair/misleading/exaggerated criticism increases the chances of that disaster.

If you want to see actual HRC honks you probably need to find an online community that's not dominated by upper middle class white men.  We're not exactly her prime demographic. Thankfully the fact that we're largely college-educated and upper middle class means we're also not exactly Trump's demographic.

I would like to see some examples.  I mean, sure there's some overlap here and there - Democrats questioned W's intelligence, though that was largely brushed aside.  But the campaign against McCain was fairly clean, until he tapped Palin.  Romney had the binders thing, but that was brief and mainly he was called out for being a Wall Street elitist looking to return to the same failed policies the led to the housing collapse. What exactly is so similar?

The bigger man coordinated booing by the crowd during the smaller man's speech?

Mitt did the same exact thing to Donald that  Harry Reid did to him . Disgusting .

The attack on the binders comment was stupid.

And Wall St elitist , who is more WS elitist than Hillary. For the most part besides the dishonesty of Clinton , when you take her left turn because of Sanders away Mitt/Hillary are similar

He was ####ing horrifying last night.  It was dystopian, authoritarian garbage, played to people's worst fears, and was also completely full of ####.  Better?

Now then, what old stories is he being attacked with here?
Assuming by the timing of that post it's that Trump wants to #### his daughter.*

*I don't think that but I heard some people saying it, okay?

That's easy,  Mitt Romney is more of a WS elitist.  He actually worked in the financial industry.  He built his entire fortune on the carried interest loop hole.
