ETA: Can one of the "Trump's not a racist you liberal trash saying everyone is racist" people explain how this is not?
It sounds like a statement about how people vote....a cynical statement on the racial mindset of the electorate...

Cnn had him ahead?!

Media not demanding his tax returns at every chance and not focusing on this pay for play that there actually is evidence for in florida and Texas is a joke. They clearly just want a horse race and dont care about the country.

He won't come out and say it for some reason but if you listen closely I think you can piece together a single consistent immigration plan out of his various vague statements:

1) Build a wall, hire more ICE guys, and otherwise tighten up on the flow of illegal and legal immigrants

2) Deport "the bad ones" ranging from convicted criminals to the unemployed

3) Allow "the good ones" to either stay under legal, but non-path-to-citizenship status. They have to work and pay taxes. They have reduced access to benefits.

4) "Good ones" who want to qualify for citizenship have to voluntarily remove themselves, then apply for re-entry, then get become the legal workers listed above, but with a path-to-citizenship

I know people are saying he is flip-flopping on mass deportation/amnesty/citizenship but I think he's just been very careful about parsing his words.

I'm also open to the possibility that he's making it up as he goes along and I'm just giving him a benefit of the doubt he hasn't earned

How is this different from the Obama/Gang of 8 plan except less than half as many extra border patrol agents and 'wall' instead of virtual border tools like drones and electronic surveillance?

That's not a flip flop, that's a full-on belly flop off the Olympic high dive.

IMO by focusing on the "flip-flop" we're all losing sight of how terrible Trump's proposals are:

1. Even if he lets 9 million undocumented stay here, he's still talking about removing 2 million people who are supposedly criminals in what would be a bureaucratic nightmare, almost certainly involve violating the Constitution, and cost untold billions.

2. He wants to restrict LEGAL immigration to those with "proper ideology" and "economic means"- in both cases a violation of of American ideals and Emma's poem.

3. There's still the wall- an unnecessary and ridiculous boondoggle, a symbol to the world of fear and xenophobia, and a disaster for our economy.

Oh look a policy discussion has broken out.

Trump leads in latest CNN poll?  Who would have thought there were so many "bigots" out there?

They better get HRC out of her cryogenic chamber and campaigning soon.

Yes, but it based on likely voters. Nate Silver's take on this:

Nate Silver@NateSilver538 1h1 hour ago

People spend too much time scrutinizing "skewed" samples. But they don't scrutinize likely voter models enough.

Marianna Sotomayor@msotomayor12 2h2 hours ago

CNN's new poll has Trump at 45%, Clinton's 43%. Our poll expert @mmurraypolitics explains why it could be an outlier

Likely voter models are (i) almost totally up to the discretion of the pollster and (ii) many of them are badly designed.

Really makes me question CNN's integrity. Where else can I watch for news/politics whose stories are not ratings based only?

They're not even trying to hide it anymore.

CNN just hires a company that does its thing.

Everyone should stop btching about the makeup of the polls, throw it in the salad and see what shakes out.

People should also not worry even if Trump takes a lead - he has no ground game, no advertising, no data operation and almost no serious campaign offices. The Democrats will be driving people to the polls like Wagon Train, and Trump will be yelling 'rigged' at the top of his lungs while doing absolutely nothing to win an election.

IMO on election day this gives the Dems maybe a 3-5+ point HFA on whatever Trump does manage to do.

Looking back on it that was probably going to be Trump's "Wall" if he ran in 2012.
Remember that "The Wall" was just one of dozens of random things that Trump cited when he kicked off his campaign in 2015. It didn't become his centerpiece until he noticed all of the positive feedback for it. He probably would have campaigned on Birtherism in 2016 if his followers had reacted enthusiastically to it.

I don't think it's a bad thing that the polls are showing it close. If Hillary was running away with it some of her supporters might be less motivated to vote.  This way everybody stays energized.

And I am telling you that's exactly why CNN is doing this. They need their base to stay interested.

This and ratings of course.

What kind of odds could I get for predicting a 269/269 tie?

That would be awesome. I hope you win your bet.

"If neither candidate gets a majority of the Electoral Votes, the election for President is decided in the House of Representatives, with each state delegation having one vote. Senators would elect the Vice-President."

I'd like to see one party have the prez and the other the VP, that would make things more interesting for sure.

Same thing happened with Romney.  All through September the polls tightened up and 538 tightened up, but by October Obama pulled away as soon as they started weighing people that early voted.  I wouldn't be shocked to see the polls track exactly the same way.  I can't remember any single event that turned things for Obama in October, but my memory is #### now.  The debates were for all intents yawners.
