I'm pretty sure the NYT said it was a Trump Tower envelope.

In any case, the NYT never said this was all that was in the envelope.  They may have the federal forms for all we know and not published them do this very reason or be holding them back for a more complete picture.

Its a short list of people that would have these forms and most are either located in Trump Tower or with Maples.  I wouldn't be shocked if it was whoever does her taxes now.

This is a bit of a trap Hillary should just avoid. Donald is pretty vile but I don't give two ####s if he pays taxes or not. So many better things to hit him on I would just ignore it.

Typed on envelope, so the sender was purposefully hiding the scrawl.

They might have done this because the PO often requires a real return address to transmit mail.

Hillary and her team has just been given a gift. It would a major missed opportunity not to run with it. You may not care if he hasn't paid taxes the last 20 years due to some loophole, but it will matter to a lot of average working class Americans who similarly can't take advantage and avoid taxes.

 
Sending in paper also prevents anyone from tracking down IP addresses or checking metadata to track down where exactly it was sent from or who created it, which would happen if it was emailed. Whoever sent it knew that too.

Agree 100%. The taxes are a distraction from the other, and IMO more important, stuff.

 
The trap would be her running with the "may not have paid taxes in 25 years" thing, only to find out later he did in fact pay taxes.

A much safer attack which should resonate almost as strongly is that HE LOST A BILLION DOLLARS

Her tech people should have already started a "Billion Dollar Loser" meme and flooded social media with it.  It would serve the dual-purpose of showing what a joke he is and hitting him where he is most sensitive.

Losing a billion and writing off a billion are two separate concepts. How was the money lost? Is it depreciation?

Politically, it may not, but in reality everyone does their best to have paper losses - he might turn the tables back on Hillary  if she attacks him on it, as I'm sure the Cinton's have paper losses as well.

I'm not sure I understand the inside job theory unless this precipitates him releasing his tax returns.  Otherwise, this just creates the impression that whatever Trump is hiding is worse than not paying federal income tax for nearly 2 decades.

The thing is we can find out if the Clintons had losses because she released her tax returns.

I don't understand it either.  Before this was released I assumed Trump had actually paid taxes since 1995.  Now it's possible he hasn't.

Well, to you and I, and most people, who are going to question Trump's narrative, yes. I'm not so sure that those inclined to listen to him would make that same assumption. He's playing to the lowest common denominator and has been all along.

And why should we care though? There are so many ways of shielding income from taxes that the whole thing is irrelevant. Minor point here if we're doing comparisons - the Clinton Foundation is redoing some number (5?) of years of tax returns because of unrevealed millions in foreign donations.

I don't necessarily disagree about the usefulness of releasing tax returns, but I think Trump hurt himself politically.  This would have all been forgotten if he released them back in April or May. Now it's a big story a month before the election. Maybe candidates release tax returns so they can control the story.

Find something to work with. The tax angle is the weakest I ever seen in a presidential election. Everyone with functioning brain cells tries to pay as little as possible. If they could everyone would get to zero or even get a refund.

I'm open to the possibility that the Trump campaign is incompetent.

 They tried pushing the "104-page financial disclosure" Trump filled out when he entered the race as a better source of information than his tax returns.  Conway tried real hard to get that one to stick

I think they thought they would be able to blame the media for rigging the game and illegally publishing tax documents against Trump's will, further pushing Trump as an outsider that the system is trying to stop.

Intuitively this makes sense to me but this would make it pretty foolish to actually put the Trump Towers as a return address. Unless the sender was, you know, foolish.

How about finding out about all of his foreign investments like Cuba, possibly Iran and Russia and find out where all of his financial interests may lie?  Maybe there's a financial reason why some of his political positions are friendly to Russia and why Putin is so pro-Trump.

The more I find out about Trump's business, the more I realize he's not very good at the actual business of real estate investing.

 
What's going to happen the day after Hillary wins? Seems like there is more of a rage now than I ever recall. There are bad people on both sides but almost daily at a Trump rally people chant "Trump that #####!" or something about putting her in jail etc. Will they just slither away?

There was a piece on Vox a couple weeks ago that basically pleaded with the media and voters to stop looking for the master plan and genius in the Trump campaign.  They really do not know what they are doing.  

I can't remember if the comparison was drawn here or not... people keep trying to think of Trump as the Gotham Mafia.  He's not.  That's Clinton.  Trump is The Joker.  He doesn't have a plan.  He just does stuff.

They go back to the trailer parks, watch Trump's new cable news network, buy his crap, and complain for the next four years. The people at those rallies are literally the very bottom of the barrel of our society. Ideally, the Republican Party realizes that pandering to these folks is a great way to ensure defeat, and swings back to the center.

I think the problem is his supporters.

I don't think they are good hearted people with real concerns, and blah freaking blah.  

I think they are people that have gotten better at hiding their hatred of anyone that doesn't look like them, and are also not bright, and to boot: really gullible.

It has been said that Hannity and Limbaugh do not want Trump to really win.  It would be so much better for their ratings to have these bottom feeders tuning in everyday to listen about Hillary killing America.  They can sell their gold and other #### to this mouth breathers.  If Trump wins the only thing that Hannity and Limbaugh can do is go after Pelosi again?  Such a racket.
