China is alreadyon the path of moving away from an export centered economy, trying to do economic uplift for their own population, and particularly in the hinterland.

Can they do that tomorrow? No. But they want to go there anyway and could likely make things very painful for American businesses that have assets or interest there in the short term.

Here's a newsflash (probably not to you, but it got pretty much zero coverage in the US as a whole), but they already are:

As U.S. President-elect Donald Trump stokes talk of tariffs on Chinese goods, General Motors Co. finds itself being investigated by the Asian nation for possible antitrust violations, according to people familiar with the matter.

China is looking at GM’s retail-pricing practices, which were also the subject of fines against Daimler AG and other automakers over the past two years. Any action by the National Development and Reform Commission, which is conducting the investigation, may be subject to changes, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the information is private. Some dealerships in the SAIC-GM network were investigated over retail pricing practices, one of the people said.

The antitrust investigation comes amid strained China-U.S. relations that have gotten tense after Trump proposed placing tariffs on Chinese goods. A Communist Party newspaper last month said a “### for tat” retaliation could follow proposals by Trump for tariffs on the world’s largest trading nation, which had $627 billion in U.S. trade in 2015. The Global Times wrote in an editorial that orders for Boeing Co. planes could be replaced with models from Airbus Group SE, and that Apple Inc.’s iPhone sales may suffer a setback.

This may not be a trade war that plays out in the conventional "we're putting a 35% tariff on everything", but make no mistake there will be (and probably already is) a trade war over Taiwan.

If Trump vows to defend Taiwan, there is very little China can or would do about it.  They are unlikely to start a military action in their own backyard.  No matter the outcome, they lose in that scenario.

Of course, I do worry that this is just one big distraction for Putin to do his business in Eastern Europe.

In an ideal world, everyone gets along, and sings kumbaya.  But since that is not happening, with three major geo-political forces - US, Russia, and China - we are probably best left in a Mexican Standoff.  Right now, it is US v. Russia and US v. China, while Russia and China are currently in a period of "strategic partnership".  With Trump, it seems that he is signaling that he wants to befriend Russia, while antagonizing China.

That would leave it as US v. China - while Russia has no political/economic/military adversary to keep it in check.  I don't see that as a positive development.

Why?  If push really came to shove, do you think we'd really defend Taiwan?  I don't.  The entire purpose of the One China policy was to keep them sort of under check.  Without it, it opens up a whole host of other worse outcomes.

***PURE SPECULATION ALERT***

I think Putin is whispering/advising Trump on keeping China in check, and that the US needs to stop China from advancing its position in the South China Sea,  I think if we do not defend Taiwan, then there really will be One China - so if Trump does not want a One China policy, the only thing he can do is defend Taiwan.  I also think that if China goes to war over Taiwan, it ultimately loses, even if it gains Taiwan.  

Russia will be the only winner to come out of a US/China conflict...

Pretty much.  It's win at all costs.  No matter what, the right wants to win.  Even if that damages the United States bigly.  Think about this.  They are willing to get in bed with Russia just to beat the left in one election.  That says a lot.

The willingness of some people here and elsewhere to accept sources like Newsmax and Julian Assange as "real news" and condemn NBC and CNN as "fake news" is in some ways more dangerous than the news itself.

No, they most certainly aren't.  Let me correct.  They are willing to be Russia's #####, just to beat Killary.   I think it's telling that Putin was so afraid of Hillary that he threw all of his support behind Trump.  I'd imagine at some point Trump commits treason, but his minions will just say.....but but but BenGHAZI!

South Boston brothers plead guilty to brazen beating


It was not enough for two South Boston brothers to urinate on a sleeping homeless man in August. They punched him repeatedly, and beat him with a metal pole. They called him a “*******.”

Then they high-fived each other and walked away.

On Monday, the brothers — Scott Leader, 38, and Steven Leader, 30 — pleaded guilty to several felony charges in the unprovoked attack, including assault and battery, intimidation, and civil rights violations.

Scott Leader, who prosecutors said has a history of hate crimes against minorities, was sentenced to three years in state prison. Steven Leader was sentenced to at least two years behind bars.

Both sentences are followed by three years of probation.

The Dorchester attack drew national attention because of its random cruelty and explicit nature. Prosecutors said the men beat 58-year-old Guillermo Rodriguez because they thought he was an illegal immigrant. Scott Leader told police the violence was acceptable because the victim was homeless and Hispanic.

“Donald Trump was right, all these illegals need to be deported,” Scott Leader said after the attack, according to authorities.

In a mostly empty Boston courtroom, Suffolk Superior Court Justice Peter B. Krupp denounced the attack as “cowardly and despicable.”

Suffolk County prosecutor Nicole Rimar said the incident “was an unprovoked attack on a sleeping man based completely off racial hostility.”

Rimar asked Krupp to deliver a harsher sentence, citing Scott Leader’s history of racially motivated assaults. He berated a Middle Eastern man after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and in 2005 harassed a group of Asian-Americans, Rimar said.

“The history of Scott Leader’s attitudes towards others is troubling,” Rimar said.

When the brothers were arrested, they said police only arrest white men and “never the minorities,” and said the witness who reported the attack was “a rat,” Rimar said.

Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said the unprovoked attack “disgusted every prosecutor, victim advocate, and trooper who worked on it.”

Rodriguez, who was sleeping outside of a Dorchester MBTA stop when he was attacked, sustained broken ribs, fingers, and other injuries.

“I cannot understand why they did this to me,” Rodriguez said in a statement. “I did not do anything to them and did not even know them.”

He still feels pain throughout his body from the attack, he said.

“I have heard that they did this because of political rhetoric,” Rodriguez said. “I came to this country many years ago and worked hard in the farm fields to provide produce to people here. I actually became a permanent resident of this country years ago although if I had been undocumented, I still would not have deserved to have been beaten in this way.”

Krupp ordered that both men attend diversity and cultural sensitivity training when they are released from prison. They must also perform 20 hours of community service.

Defense attorneys for the Leaders said the men regret the attack, but declined to comment further. Each of the men has a young daughter, and were active in their lives before their arrest.

Trump has made illegal immigration a central focus of his presidential campaign and has pledged to build a wall on the border between the United States and Mexico. He has made disparaging comments about Mexican immigrants that critics feared could incite a backlash.

When he was told of the assault in August, Trump said “it would be a shame . . . I will say that people who are following me are very passionate. They love this country and they want this country to be great again.”

Do you realize how rdiciculous this on the face of the actual report?

- " according to sources who were briefed on Comey’s conversations with Trump..." - So (if this is even real) this is likely Trump's camp because NM doesn't say 'intelligence sources say...'. Could be Corey Lewandowski or Omorosa, who knows.

This is even a lie I'd say because there is a plethora of non-governmental technical sourcing on this. I could see how it is an open question as what Russia's motive or goal was or whether it actually "swayed" the election, but there is zero and I do mean 0.0% chance Comey said this as reported.

If Trump doesn't trust our nation's military and intelligence, and he does communicate with Putin and trust him, next logical step is for Putin to screw with us and harm us through Trump. Causing conflict with China would be first on his agenda. It is at least logical.

show me where the Directors of the FBI and National Intelligence agree with the CIA statement.  Show me the CIA's "proof" this happened the way they said it did.

On one side we have the Clinton apologists:  Obama, CIA, and the media.  All were exposed in the WikiLeaks scandals.  This whole "Russian" interference is another "hail mary" trying to not elect Donald Trump.  And everyone on the Clinton apologists side has a LOT to lose when Trump is the President.

Where is the NSA confirming. They track everything on every computer yet have remained silent as well?

I will wait for the FBI. NSA and Director of National Intelligence to tell me what definitely happened.  Why should we trust the CIA's version of events with no proof and no backing from the real people in charge of making this determination? Is the CIA's role to determine this?  Can someone point me to where they have confirmed other hacking efforts by state parties?

As of just a couple years ago Hannity was calling Assange a traitor. And point blank he did publish stolen US data, including material that compromised US intelligence and military assets. Assange hates the CIA and the US government, Dem and GOP, thoroughly. It's bizarre you post to Hannity or Assange on this, it's nuts.
