That's about as reasonable as the Eagles' could have hoped for. Kind of surprised he took less overall than Clements. I know the last years to these FA contracts are fluff but for him to get what appears to be a smaller contract is surprising.

As an Eagles fan, I want no part of Moss and it has nothing to do with Moss....while they may be "friends" and he is going to call McNabb about playing in Philly, McNabb's ego is so fragile that the first time Moss breathes on him, McNabb will crack and it will be TO, Part II. Moss seems to be a very strong personality and I can't see that meshing well with the boy in the bubble Donovan...

Love the Samuel move......gives you the flexibility to either have a serious upgraded secondary or trade Sheppard to either move up in the draft or to add a #1 WR....

The offense actually was the problem last year. That and ST. Besides a 50 pt outburst against Detroit, their scoring average was way down and they lost quite a few low scoring games.Their defense was not dynamic (lack of turnovers) but was efficient. Their PPG was top 10 last year on defense.

What do you guys think the chances are for moving Gocong to DE? We have a good set of LBs, we could move Spikes to SAM, Omar to WILL, and Bradley to MIKE. Then pick up another backup LB and we'd be set. In a recent article, JJ made it seem like Bradley would have a good shot at being MIKE and he was toying with moving Omar around.

I like the sound of Bradley getting more playing time, but I don't like the sound of another smaller DE.Odom, please.....

I heard someone say before that if the Eagles did in fact sign Samuel, it could be Lito and Samuel at CB and Brown moved to S alongside Dawkins. I would love to see this. Any chance?

Do you think they are relying on Dawkins at S or do they bring someone in to eventually replace him? I'm not saying he won't be opening day starter but I would think they'd start to groom someone.

They drafted 2 DBs last year but both were swiped off of the practice squad (Gaddis, Barksdale - one of them is on KC, the other ATL).The draft will be all about 09 and beyond - FA is about 08 and production now.

As I understand it, it's 32 mill in the first 3 years and 20 mill guaranteed. Not cheap but it's time for a serious push. I hope Lito stays content with his contract for now. We're going to need some quality CBs to match up against Moss and TO lined up across from eachother...

Everyone seems all hyped about the Fitz rumors. Maybe I am in the minority, but I personally think that the Jared Allen rumor would be better for the team. Defense wins championships, and a pass rush of Allen and Cole would be very formidable.

Lots of "it is just the beginning of the offseason" and "stay tuned" type of comments. Probably doesn't mean anything more then what we already know (that they are trying to trade Lito). As for Jared Allen, my guy hasn't heard anything past the initial inquiry the Eagles made regarding him. Lito was offered, but he's pretty sure the picks side of the rumor was fabricated by the guy on the KC blog.

we didn't pay him to be an every down player. he's a gocong type player who adds depth to the defense, and jim johnson has expressed he loves those LB/DE hybrid players. he'll be a situational pass rusher. let's not forget that we don't want to sign an every-down player, we already drafted abiamiri to do that and we have to give him time to develop. replacing that spot before he can develop wouldn't be smart, but adding competition to push him further, that's smart.

One one hand, I like the idea of swapping DL in and out, but OTOH there's a legit concern about having 8 DLs active on Sundays.As I see it, you'd have 45 men active. On offense, you'd have 2 QB, 3 TE, 4 RB and 5 WR going. On defense the Eagles would then have 8 DL, 6 LB and 8 DBs. Factor in a PK and a punter and you're up to 22 on D, 2 ST and 14 on offense - leaving just 7 offensive linemen. Do you go with just 3 safeties? 5 LBs? Remember, LBs are often bigger contributors on ST / KR / PR downs.The more I think about it, the more I'd like to see a D scheme with Gocong as a 4th DL but have his hand up to give a 3-4 look. That could allow the Eagles to have 6 LBs active and just 7 DLs going.Just thinking out loud - if that's possible while typing....
