** Official ** Eagles 2008 Thread (1 Viewer)

I think that move is at the very least a year away. According to his position coach at McNeese he didn't play standing up & had zero coverage responsibilities. I don't think his agility numbers come close to Gocong's which may complicate the transition further. I liked hearing he has more than just the speed rush in his repetoire. I hope he sees the field on 3rd downs this season.
That will be tricky with Cole, Clemens and J. Thomas already in at DE on 3rd down. No DTs :goodposting:

Josh Buchanan, of NFLDraftBible.com, reports the Philadelphia Eagles signed undrafted rookie free-agent WR Adarius Bowman (Oklahoma State) Wednesday, April 30. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

You got me excited about this now Jeff, hope he's the real deal.

What?!?! No props to Pasquino in the article for helping land the UDFA stud?

It's a nice problem to have. I think the pass rush will be much improved this season. The special teams even moreso. Should be a fun season; really looking forward to actually having a potentially elite return man...now Reno can go back to serving crab fries.@ Jeff

You got your man. Let's hope he's been humbled & ready to work. I have my doubts (an April 2nd possession arrest? seriously, it doesn't get much dumber)

Anyone know how much Bowman really likes to smoke? Getting caught at NC and then arrested could mean a very short NFL career.

Still sketchy details that the Eagles signed Bowman. All reports trace back to one source (Josh Buchanan). Haven't heard any official reports yet.

Here's some video for Bowman:

makes sense that they are keeping it quiet given his history with the law and Mary Jane. They probably just want to get a look at him this weekend at mini-camp and then he'll either be on his way out the door, or on his way to the vol camp

Don't know whether this means anything, but on Joe Bryant's Daily E-mail, it linked to an article where Anquan Boldin said he's perfectly happy in Arizona and wants to stay. I really want a big time wideout, but it looks like it won't be Boldin. :goodposting:

Lito Sheppard showed up for Post Draft Minicamp after talking with AR. Does this mean it could get worked out where he sticks with Philly? Not likely, but most players would skip it if they were unhappy, so it seems...

I actually think they may do the previously unthinkable: re-do his contract if they can't find a good trade to take. :bag:

Thats a tough one. They cant pay a #3 CB 5-7 million a year.

If they redid his contract, I think it would be somewhere between the 2.5 mill he's currently getting and the sum Samuels is getting. He has acknowledged that he doesnt expect free agent money. I think it would be money well spent with the kind of firepower in the NFC East.

i want Lito there as much as the next guy, but thats a slippery slope to start on. If They redo Lito, then Brown will want his redone, so will Westy, and then Patterson if he has another good year. Maybe Lito shouldnt have had such a poor year last year if he was that concerned about redoing his contract?

Lito has a chance to be on a good team with a good chance to win and be on the national stage for several games. He also has one year left on a deal that could wind up making him the best FA CB in 2009.There's a strong case for him to shut up and play one year and look to cash in afterwards. If a restructure is done, it would have to be incentive-based as Lito will want "starter money" clauses (if Brown or Samuel get hurt).Odds are that if he remains an Eagle he'll just play out his contract, try to show the NFL he's healthy and make plays as often as he can - which will net him a big payday in March.I think a smart agent would tell him exactly this.

Couple of notes from GCobb in regards to the rookie camp:

"I see what they saw in defensive end Bryan Smith. He's got the burst ouf of his stance. The kid comes off the ball in much the same way that Trent Cole does.

Kolb is one, two, three and that ball is out of there. Understandably, the kid definitely looks more sure of what he's doing than he did a year ago.

Again in the second practice it doesn't take a genius to see that the Eagles are planning on utilizing Lorenzo Booker and Kris Wilson in the offense. They've got them on a fast-track to play.

I think having three corners with tremendous coverage skills could allow the Birds to blitz their linebackers more.

Jackson looked alright back catching punts but fellow draftee Quintin Demps looked just as good. Demps doesn't have Jackson's speed."

Samuel got $10 million. The $5-7 million I am talking about IS between the $2.5 million he currently makes and what Samuel is making.

Can Sheldon Brown play Safety? I'm certain Lito can't, but if Brown can, that secondary is scary.....

That seems to be the wet dream going around Eagles fans' minds. Are you talking about Brown replacing Dawkins or Mikkal?

Sure Sheldon can play safety. He hits hard and has good coverage skills. That's a waste though to have a #1 or 2 CB play Safety.

Well we're "stuck" with 3 #1 CBs so it's either that or have one of them on the bench.

With all the multi-WR sets teams use now-a-days, a teams nickel corner can see the field almost as much as the #1 and 2. Having three legit #1's is a problem many teams would love to have.

Not to mention it would be tough to tell a very good corner that we are gonna switch you to a position that gets far less money around the league. Now if he was being shown he could no longer play at the CB then I am sure he would go for it, but I think it would take a lot of $$ for him to be happy about that kind of move.

:goodposting: Look at the rest of thge division:Dallas - Toying with adding WRs, plus TO and Witten and either Glenn or Crayton.Washington - They just drafted 2 WRs and a TE on Day 1 to go with Cooley, Santana Moss and ARE.Giants - Toomer, Plax, Shockey or Boss (both?) and Steve Smith or Sin Moss. Not to mention PIT, SF, SEA, AZ and CLE on the schedule - and maybe GB in the playoffs. Should they even play in SBXLIII odds are that the AFC team will have 3+ good receiver targets. 3 CBs is a great problem to have.

:goodposting: :goodposting: why not just start all 3 with Dawk and let JJ scheme up some insane blitzes? Who says you need 2 CBs and 2 SFTYs? As long as they can make plays, tackle effectively, and know their roles within the D, maybe this is the answer to the spread O.

:goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: i agree with all of this, having 3 top end CBs in this division looks like its going to be a really good thing, as its been mentioned, every team in the division has 3+ above average receiving groups(including TE). This gives the eagles the ability to really diversify their defense with alot of new, and probably unseen, defensive sets and blitz packages that few, if any other teams could produce. with Asante/Lito/Sheldon all being able to play man defense well, it really lets the safeties focus more on the TE/RB's/Blitzing. This isn't even taking into account a young defensive line/LB group with a ton of speed and ability. Now i have faith in our LB's developing but i cant say im not a little pensive about that group. But with whats in front of them and whats behind them, there will be a cushion for a few minor errors which i think in the end will only speed up their learning and build their confidence as a unit quickly.

"A nickel cornerback has to be a physical-type cover guy,'' Johnson said. "In the past, we've used Sheldon sometimes as a safety. We feel comfortable with that. It's not going to be every down, but it's going to be part of the package.''Brown, who is one of the league's better run-support corners, said he has no problem playing inside in the nickel or in any other scheme."It worked out very well with me, Lito and Rod,'' he said. "Bottom line is, teams put three wides on the field at least 65 percent of the time anyway. Especially when you play against a West Coast team. Will [James] played a lot. Joselio played a lot. We always keep three guys on the field most of the time."I'll be honest with you. I love it when we have two great [corners]. Because it means I get to stay inside and play nickel. I get to rush the quarterback. I get to do a lot of different things in the slot. I hate it out there [on the outside]. It's boring. I like it inside.''
Brown seems willing to move around.

:hophead: i like it, of course Sheldon isnt the one they said would be bumped from the starting spot. I am actually with AR on this one, don't give away a pro bowl player for next to nothing just because you're supposed to have only 2 starting CBs. Hopefully they can find a way to make Lito happy

Talked to my friend last night and all he did was rave about Quintin Demps. Said that he might be their best pick in this draft when all was said and done. He also said that the kid they took at the top of the 3rd (name escapes me at the moment) is looking good as well.

In the negative side of things, he said DeSean Jackson is having problems fielding those booming punts that Sav Rocca is letting loose. That was a 'uh-oh' moment for me. He did say his routes were much improved though over what he saw on tape.

Also a negative was Kevin Kolb. He was doing real well getting rid of the ball quickly, but Asante Samuel was, in my friend's words, 'abusing him'. Actually, to piggy back off that, he said Samuel is looking like a beast.

So far they are rotating the CB's, and it's working real well and all of them are getting along with each other. I'm really getting the feeling that Lito ain't going anywhere, but than again he was all but gone to the Jags before the draft, so what do I know.

Hmmm, the Birds top WR draft pick is bombing you say? I dont believe it :moneybag: As for Kolb struggling, i could definitely see a young QB having some issues with the Eagles DBs. Anyway, he doesnt need to look good now, only in '09 or '10.Thanks for the info DH...every time i see "last post = Deranged Hermit", i'm all :lmao: and :lmao:

Could we turn down the hyperbole a tad? TIA
"Bombing" is not the correct word to use by any stretch. Actually, WR-wise, they're pretty impressed. He ran better routes than he showed on film, he caught everything that was 'catchable' and he was matched up against Asante Samuel most of the day. All-in-all, they were pleased with what they saw. Now, the punt returning was a problem. Apparently, while he did catch them all, he was struggling a bit finding the ball. Not a concern right now, but it could be.Also, just to re-iterate, Asante Samuel is a total ball-hawk. He was absolutely giving the QB's and WR fits because he was so good at jumping the routes and was always in the hip pocket of the WR. Anyone concerned whether or not he was a product of the NE defensive system can lay that to rest right now.I'm hoping when I see him on Friday he'll give me a DVD of the practices so I can watch it first hand. He said he'd try, but he can't make any promises.

Can this DVD be uploaded to the shark pool...?

Is your friend risking his job giving you all this info?
I only post what he gives me the ok to post. The only 'iffy' thing I posted was the Lito info the Friday before the draft. I was puropsely vague with the team involved, but I was told that was a 90% done deal. Well, we know now that 90% doesn't constitute 100%. :lmao:The other stuff I posted about the WR's, Jason Taylor and Jared Allen earlier in the year were all after the fact. All in all, I know more than I post. Trust me when I tell you that sometimes it's better NOT to know.
