No.Jethro Tull.
No.Jethro Tull.
They started out as a metal band, but became non-metal with "Down on the Upside", which, not coincidentally, signaled the end of their career.Soundgarden
BUT THEY HAVE A GRAMMY TO PROVE IT.No.Jethro Tull.
Zeppelin may be harder hitting than Leppard or the Crue, but that doesn't mean they're metal. The latter two bands were both the lamest kind of metal, but they're still easy to classify, while Zeppelin played all different kinds of music and had a great many decidely non-metal characteristics.See. That's where you lost me.AC/DC, I understand. If Leppard is metal, Zeppelin is metal. You can't tell me Whole Lotta Love isn't metal and Photograph is. I'm just not buying it. Same thing with the Crue.Yes, across the board, but they're all borderline. The hair bands are all metal, but a different subgenre than the Slayers of the world. AC/DC is really just a very loud rock band, but their subject matter and attitude pushes them into the metal category.AC/DC
Def Leppard
Motley Crue
Interesting. I would say no, no, yes.Yes, across the board, but they're all borderline. The hair bands are all metal, but a different subgenre than the Slayers of the world. AC/DC is really just a very loud rock band, but their subject matter and attitude pushes them into the metal category.AC/DC
Def Leppard
Motley Crue
Yes.Suicidal Tendencies
A no for me.Yes.KISS
Unfortunately, yes.Mr. Big
And there goes your credibility.No.Blue Oyster Cult

The Gathering
Theater of Tragedy
Nightwish
That was my reasoning for submitting them.BUT THEY HAVE A GRAMMY TO PROVE IT.No.Jethro Tull.
I'm the one who wants to be with youDeep inside I hope you feel it tooUnfortunately, yes.Mr. Big
:(Evilgrin oozes credibility on this subject. There's no one I'd trust more. And there goes your credibility.No.Blue Oyster Cult
I've heard it a million times. I understand perfectly. BOC is a rock band. Winger was a cheese-metal band. BOC is a thousand times better, but it doesn't make them metal.Metal is a genre of music, not a badge of honor. To sum this up, your saying Winger is metal, but Blue Oyster Cult is not??
Blue Oyster Cult--The Metal Years.
Great album, pick it up. You'll understand...
If Mr. Big is a "yes" there is no "borderline" about AC/DC...AC/DC and Def Leppard are borderline.Interesting. I would say no, no, yes.Yes, across the board, but they're all borderline. Definitions can evolve. The music industry disagrees with you.BOC = first american heavy metal band.BOC is not metal, sorry. And there goes your credibility.No.Blue Oyster Cult
Yes.NIN - no, with the exception of the "Broken" EP and a few tunes on "Downward Spiral" - they're kind of on the fringe. Ministry is also like this, but I would say they have enough metal in them to be a yes. Same with Rammstein and KMFDM.Godsmack
NIN
Sorry Clayton, I respect your opinion on the subject, but I've been around here long enough to respect Evilgrin's more. Every other subject, you're the clear winner.:(Evilgrin oozes credibility on this subject. There's no one I'd trust more. And there goes your credibility.No.Blue Oyster Cult

Yes.Stryper
No.Red Hot Chili Peppers
No.Yes. But Kyuss was real metal, whereas QOTSA is very borderline.Prodigy
Queens of the Stone Age
Norwegian Black Metal.I know that Raffi was metal, I just don't know what kind of metal. Please advise. TIA

Sometimes, punk and metal are pretty close...
No.Can you start to classify which genre of "metal" each band falls into...TIA
You're making what I think is a valuable distinction:a) metal bands, andMetal is a genre of music, not a badge of honor.
No, I don't have any Blue Oyster Cult. Where were you last week?Blue Oyster Cult
