Getting ready to jump in the idating pool (thanks to Krista for her profile help). So, I see items like "the polar bear question" among the last few pages of postings so wondering if anyone has a summary page of the helpful hints/tips on icebreakers, replies, etc... so I don't have to comb through all 134 pages (although it sound like it could provide some prime comedy relief at times).

Quick profile: 43 (from a quick read, seems like at least Uruk-Hai is in the same range...any others?), divorced, 2 kids (split custody), stable person (at least I like to think so

At this point, primarily looking to meet new people and have some fun. Where it goes from there, who knows.

My last item: just found out Friday I am being downsized...but, Krista has encouraged me to get out there anyway...could be worth a few laughs!

46 here. I'd throw an ad up on a free site like plentyoffish.com before joining a pay site. I'm not so sure POF doesn't get better results anyway, but at least you'll get your feet wet without laying out a bunch of $$ (for the site, anyway).There's really no hard-&-fast rules to this. You have to present yourself in a way you're comfortable with. Be yourself, be honest but not too intense, and don't write a novel like I tend to do.

Ah got it, thought "problems" were more in the lines of the chicks you meet. TONS of bots on CL but you can pretty easily start picking out the ones that are legit vs the fake ones. Problem with CL is that it's filled up mainly of old or obese chicks so you really have to be patient until a decent one comes along.

I have an update too!I started talking to a guy on Plentyoffish in February or so. We chatted on and off for a couple months, then I wasn't around for a while because I was crazy busy. Logged back on again in May and recontacted him just so he didn't think I stopped talking to him because he'd offended me or something. We started chatting again and then met in person at the end of June. I wasn't expecting a heck of a lot - we had good conversations but I got much more of a friend vibe from him online. (He's also teetering at the very upper edge of my acceptable age range and that kind of threw me a bit.) The first meeting went much better than I thought - turns out we have tons in common. (and he was much cuter in person than in his pictures!) We had a couple long phone conversations after that, met up at the Taste of Chicago the next weekend...and have spent pretty much every weekend together since then. At first it was pretty obvious that he was much more into me than I was into him...but I've really grown quite fond of him. I will also say that of all the PoF guys, he's the only one I've introduced to my family. (They like him!)So we'll see how this goes.

So far things are going very well! He and his mom are going to come to Thanksgiving dinner with my family this year, so that will be fun. But I still gloated when I beat him in fantasy football a few weeks ago.

And a way-overdue update: Still very much together - in fact, we will be moving in together at the end of this month.

I've been laying low for the most part. In the past year, I've met up with 3. Two of them were attractive, cool women but it kind of fizzled out in both cases. The 3rd I really like, but she's a tough nut to crack romantically. To be fair, her ad was for "friends" so I knew going in what the deal was. She's from India, been here about 20 years, has a doctorate in sociology, and IMO is smokin' hot. She's hung up on a guy with whom she knows the relationship is doomed (he wants kids, she doesn't - and she's much older than him) & is working through that. We've hung out several times over the last 6 or 8 months and I can tell she likes me but she told me right off the bat that she's not opening herself up to anything other than friends until she gets resolved with her young guy. We have a blast together but I'm not in pursuit-mode anymore with her. 90% to 10% nothing more ever comes of it.Anyway, I'll probably pick up the pace with the on-line thing soon with Winter coming on - I get bored this time of year with cabin fever. So I'll probably go on a carpet-bombing mission one evening, writing several at once on POF. I'm not joining the pay sites as I've had no better luck with those than the free sites.

If the pictures are with an ex, crop them. If they're with random friends, leave them be.

Woz, seriously, I can't just let you leave your profile like that. Its terrible. If you won't take my advice on it, ask Krista or Furley or someone. Its full of typos and poor grammar and those pics need to be cropped or left alone. You can't just scribble out your ex's faces and use them. All jokes aside, I can fix it up if you want.
