***OFFICIAL*** FFA MLB Draft (3 Viewers)

Seriously, how can you knock the Frank Thomas pick, then take Craig Biggio?  How can you do that?Wanna start a poll?  Who's the better all-time baseball player....Frank Thomas/Craig Biggio/Dennis Eckersley....Eck beats Thomas by a nose.  Biggio get's one vote.
That because the public is stupid. What are we proving?
Then why have the silly vote in the first place? Why not just sim?
Ok, I will settle the debate once and forall.FFA, who is better, ARod or Arky Vaughn. Cause SURELY the FFA will take both into proper consideration. Many experts say Arky had the career Arod is "in the middle of" - but has not yet finished. Experts might be 60/40 in favor of either Arky or Arod (im just guessing but thats a fair range). Id put money it is at least 4:1 ration against Arky in the FFA.
again...why the Bonds hatin' for Balco but no mention of the same effect on "bulked up" MIF'ers? If you have A-Rod as a top SS you better have Bonds as the best or second best PLAYER ever....
For one, Bonds is twice the player A Rod is . Second, I do not think A Rod has ever been under any suspicion for use of such substances. Guys like Giambi, Caminiti, Sheff all have some question, but A Rod has never been associated with roids. If you are talking about the taint of the "modern game" and "inflated numbers" you have one thing. If you have a personal concern with stats re: Balco and roids, I dont think A Rod has ever been under any suspicion, whereas Bonds and some others certainly have.
If you think ANY position player in the game doesn't use performance enhancers you proboably would have aquitted OJ for murder...seriously, there aren't many serious HS athletes that don't use that stuff.

Doug B

Been there quite a while....
Probably catching up
so someone PM him and let him know its his pick and that he should catch up AFTER he makes a pick...I wanna make 2 more picks tonight...
How bout tomorrow. The ensuing debate could go on for hours.
why? I already have one (maybe 2) picks all lined up and ready to be picked...
Ellis Burks and Edgar Martinez?
Is there a limit on the number of DH's that can be taken?
Every player is a position player, as we are not playing with a DH. This is real baseball. :P
Steve Balboni

7.10 - Tim Keefe - SP

This triple crown winner has 342 Wins (8th All-Time), with a 2.62 ERA and 1.12 WHIP, both ranked all-time. He is third all-time in complete games (554-3rd) and has 39 career shutouts. Add over 2500 strikeouts and you have a nice foundation to build your pitching staff on.

EDIT: Just to add his "third best" season was 32-13 with a 1.58 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP and an over 2-1 K to BB ratio. I'll take it.

Simply put, one of the most dominating pitchers EVER. He led in Ks SEVEN STRAIGHT seasons... and has a Triple Crown and an MVP to his credit. (Think Randy Johnson stuff last year, on an awful team - but still one of the most intimidating and effected forces in the game.)

The HoF'er that had the lowest run support of any HoF pitcher but often won anyways - and run support wont be a problem here...

Clarence Arthur (Dazzy) Vance RHP 1915-1930

Dazzy Vance - Write Up

One of the most dominating pitchers in the history of the game, Dazzy Vance often played on teams that gave him terrible run support. It is said (I am not "positive") that he has the lowest run support of any HoF'er. Run support wont be a problem when ARod is my fourth best offensive player.

The strikeout king of his league and era, Dazzy had good control... demonstrated by leading the league in least walks/9 innings once, while leading in walks + basehits four times. At the same time, he had plenty of wild pitches and hits batsmen.. basically, he owned the plate. Guys struck out against Vance. Players didnt get on base against Vance. They rarely scored, on Vance.

A rocket career along the likes of Koufax (almost a decade of sheer dominance, but not a long MLB career), Vance was the dominating force for the better part of a decade.

MVP

Triple Crown

3 Time ERA Crown

7 STRAIGHT Strikeout Crowns

4 Time Shoutout King

2 Time Complete Game Leader

2 Time Wins Leader

4 Time H/9in leader

3 Time H+BB/9In Leader (basically, guys did not get on base)

8x Strikeout/8in Leader

Those are some unmatched feats. Dominance and winning.

Imagine if Dazzy Vance had more than 8 career starts before the age of 31. Prior to his first of Seven Consecutive K Titles in '22, at the age of 31, Dazzy had appeared in 11 games, starting 8.

larry..calm down a bit.

any chance we make it up to bogart? we still all here?I just found out, Vance's MVP was the first EVER NL MVP. And while I am in pimping mode... that makes a lefty AND a righty in my rotation that EACH had Seven STRAIGHT Strikeout Crowns. A Triple Crown Winner from both sides (and three total triple crowns). A league MVP from both sides. That is before we even talk about Seaver... then you have 15 era crowns, 3 CYA's to add, and 5 more Strikeout king seasons to bring the total to 19 for the three. Now, if only I can scrape up some runs with my meager lineup... ;)

so I'm gonna assume that we aren't gonna get to me tonight? Am I right? lolI'm just acting a little hyper... I really wanna know 'cuz if there is no chance of getting to me I'm gonna go to bed and pick in the morning... lol

is it safe for me to go to bed? I don't want to hold up the draft, but really don't want to give a list to the guys here that still need to draft.

Even is somehow Funk comes back, it is getting late so getting through me by a miracle wouldnt mean you would be holding things up. Hopefully this can get going tomorrow before 10:30 am, est.

cappy... do you have any official news on Funkley? Did he leave you a list? I'm assuming no... but just checking...anyone else?? If Funkley left someone a list that can be picked from we can get around the turn back to him tonight still...

well, I'm out... I'll be back in the morning... hopefully I'll get 2 rounds of turns tommorow...that would give me 10 players and, quite possibly, a complete starting lineup...*kinda exited at that*

I thought I would be going role player here too, but no full lineup for me for a while. Vance was too golden to pass up.

My staff now has:

Three Triple Crowns

2 MVPs, 5 top 5 MVP votes, 10 top 10 MVP (lefty won the first ever NL MVP)

15 ERA Crowns (21 top 3 Finishes)

19 SO Crowns (27 top 3 finishes)

Add 3 Cy Youngs and an ADDITIONAL 7-10 "hypothetical" Cy Youngs (lefty would get 4-7 CYAs and Vance 3 according to one afficianado's estimations. I will show you my source for this after the draft, but suffice it to say Lefty and Vance would have won quite a handful. If Randy Johnson and Clemens have that many, Lefty would as well. Vance's 7 years was like a Koufax experience, for comparison sake.)

I guess we will see if going heavy pitching works.. in the minds of FFA and in the sim as well.
