***OFFICIAL*** FFA MLB Draft (2 Viewers)

Harrier takes Elmer Smith
which one? I'm assuming the 1887-1901 who pitched and hit.BTW I think we've gotten to the point in the draft where there are guys who I've never heard of coming off the board.

the good one I guess. All he specified.

I'll be gone for the day, will leave a list with whoever can take it.

Doesnt Harrier usually not get on until Mid afternoon?

We have to do these drafts by timezone in the future.
The problem seems to be that there are day drafters, and there are night drafters. Also a few that come on a little both day and night.Earlier on, it seemed like we were hitting the night drafters and the day folks at just the right time. But now, it's all out of sync -- it's daytime, and a night drafter (grad student mrharrier) is up. This has happened to Spartans a few times, too -- he'd be the first pick of the day, even though he doesn't come on until after noon.

Win Shares sent to Koya, Bogart, trefor3, and the cheese rapist.
thanks. I was just about to go and buy the book this weekend. Maybe this will hold me off from getting it for a while.

Well, the database/spreadsheet won't tell you much other than the Win Shares for each player/season and the player names are in the format used by the Lahman database so it isn't exactly user friendly for someone just interested in browsing through it.You also don't get the stats or calculations. You may want to buy the book anyway - although there are a bunch of online resources you can use to read about the methodology for free. Just Google it.

By the way, sent you an email about GDR. Interested to hear your thoughts on that. Saw the thread at RJ. :bag:
On the surface GDR is a TON to take in, I'm reading the manual at lunch today to try and take it all in, but my initial take is that it's amazing. The idea of a blind auction over the internet taking several weeks is way out there, but really fun.I will let you know how it progresses. Doing the "beta" mock draft, so looking for bugs, but so far its pretty smooth.

Gracias. :excited:
Wow. I love your post 1994 team. Gibson at C is amazing in that lineup.
I too am really inpressed with your 1994 team, should be really tough.I <3 Josh Gibson.
Guess you guys missed the post about how he had the fewest combined Win Shares out of the three of us ;)
:) I just happened to notice cuz his team is in his sig. If that's the 'worst' of the teams.....wow.

:fishing: I was reading the formula for win shares online and I was wondering if the really good players on bad teams get screwed by it? Like when A-Rod was in Texas, did his win share numbers stink?

Nah, I wouldn't say his team is the worst. I'd say they're all pretty damn strong. I just totalled the number of Win Shares for each player's 2nd highest Win Share season (since that's how we're determining the season to use) and posted the results. Results were:1) oso diablo: 5332) GWB: 5003) trefor3: 460Keep in mind that I didn't include the Negro League guys - no Win Shares available for them - and that the Win Shares do include defense so some of our guys could have inflated totals for their glove.

I don't think so. I think he would have had a similar number of Win Shares even if he had been with a good team. He was just responsible for a larger percentage of the teams wins than he would have been on a better team.At least, that's how I think it should work.

What's up all? Good picks Oso, . Any major changes in format? I see something about using second highest win shares or something...edited to add it's an easy friday afternoon for me...if I need to get in line-ups or stats or something to somebody let me know.

WB UCONN - are things looking any better on the personal/friend front? Hope you are holding up.

Guy who was basically my dad growing up is in very bad shape. Coming to terms w/ it. How're things in here?

Well, with any other backdrop than reality (such as what you are going through... best of luck, wish words could do more), we are doing terribly. About 5 picks a day. Add in the usual Koya-Nipsey love-hate fests, arguing over rules, having people in the thread 2 min before they pick and then disappearing for hours on end, well - its an FFA draft. :D

I finally finished this entire thread. I also went out and bought Bill James Historical Abstract yesterday thanks to this thread. Really got me back into thinking about baseball history, which I had kind of gotten away from. So, I guess, Thanks. Also best wishes to UCONN. Good luck man.

Pretty slow, but we are keeping entertained by a rehash of the Lebron issue in the NBA draft.

Yes. We will be 65 years old, Lebron will already be in the Hall Of Fame, and Nipsey and I will STILL bring that horse back from the dead for mo' beatin.
