***OFFICIAL*** FFA MLB Draft (3 Viewers)

BTW, Mark Buehrle is way too good in the sim. Jesus.. he's like Koufax out there.
Fing Glavine too.
not to mention Jason Schmidt. I am suppose to believe that Schmidt's 3rd best year (13-8 , 3.45 ERA) is going to dominate a game, winning player of the game honors??   :hot:

I'd take Spock over me. Should proboably go off at about even. Maybe UCONN +120 or so given the pitching match-up and his having home-field. Take the under in that park w/ Koufax pitching if it's anything more than about 5.5. My best righty bat so far is more of a power hitter (Kiner) and his park really neutralizes that. Mickey is very cold. Tris has been my best hitter, but Koufax is Koufax. Can't expect any lefty to do much against him. Actually moved Tris down in the order. Throw in the fact that I haven't had consistant pitching from the 2-5 slots and I like Spock in the series (w/ him being at home) if it's around even money.
This is like the Illinois head basketball coach saying his team should be the underdog for their game at Wisconsin........and then proceeding to beat them.
1-0 SpockJust call me Pete.
John McGraw: Coach, Catfish Hunter is really on his game today. I don't think we'll have much offense at all. Maybe just 3 or 4 hits all day.Coach Spock: That's not good news. This is a divisional game.

Sandy Koufax: How many runs can you score.

John McGraw: I don't know. Maybe one?

Sandy Koufax: That's all I'll need.

Lot of, "Ralph Kiner flys out to deep left field" type plays at Spocks park. Just didn't execute when we had guys on. He created a run and made it stand up. Poor execution across the board w/ 4 errors and a passed ball as well. Have said all along Spock in that park is going to be very tough to beat. Hopefully Drysdale can build off his solid outing against DA&L and give me some quality innings game 2. Also hoping Catfish keeps his head up after a brutal loss game 1. 6 innings and only gave up 3 hits before being lifted for a pinch hitter (who continued our 0-fer streak w/risp). Gwynn hit a single, stole second, got moved over to third on a ground ball to the right side, and scored on a single. That run held up. We got caught stealing, made an out trying to go 1st to 3rd, and performed pitifully at the plate (0-6 w/RISP, plus just failed to situational hit). Damn it. Wasting that kind of performance on the mound isn't something we can afford to do.

 Seriously. Any team that goes into your park and takes a series from you will have earned it. You take the long ball out of the equation and your offense can definately compete, and that pitching staff is just scary.

The poor situational hitting is one of the bad things about my line-up too. It's frustrating to see Ted Williams ground out to the pitcher with a guy on 3rd.

Johnny Mize. .150 hitter. :bag: Lefty Grove .268 Opponents Batting Average. :bag: :bag: The local NY papers are NOT happy. They are calling for blood.

 Mickey Mantle is driving me nuts. Way too many innings where some guy hits a lead-off double and the next 3 procede to K or hit the ball in a way that won't move the guy over. Just glad it hasn't hurt me in the standings more than it has.Didn't Ted Williams once say all he did when he wanted to hit a fly ball was look for the bottom half of the ball? That guy was amazing. If he can't hit a fly-ball to bring a guy in, :wall:

Especially when a flyball in Tiger Stadium is basically a home run. His stat line so far looks like some weak leadoff hitter.AVG .308OBP .423SLG .431HR 1RBI 8

He says he could tell what type of pitch it was by the way the laces spun on the ball. Amazing vision and reflexes.

Thanks. I certainly can't talk smack in the broad sense given my 1-6 start, but even if by the end of the season my record is poor, I think everyone would still agree that my place is the toughest place to play.

It's not the lack of hitting that bothers me so much, but the fact that these all-time greats don't move runners over.
“All star teams fail because they rely on the talents of individuals,... By contrast, the Russians have a team mentality.” Herb Brooks (played by Kurt Russell) from the movie Miracle.

Oso is using second seasons for a few players. We haven't had an argument for a few pages. This should be cute.
btw, I'm sure this was just a mistake, because I remember GWB asking me if they were supposed to use second or third, and somebody mentioned that the third year killed their David Ortiz pick.
That was me. My team would be DOMINANT if I was using 2nd seasons. A lot of my awesome pitching staff suffered the 3rd year curse too. (J. Schmidt, M. Morris, Zito)Thanks to Larry Boy's sweet sweet Lord for my early success!

I'm not looking for the best players, Craig, I'm lookin' for the right ones.
Maybe that's why Kelly is King?
You know what else he's got? He's got the attitude I want on and off the ice, so somebody here better tell me why I shouldn't be giving him a hell of a look!

Uconn...your avatar is BrokeSorSammy...you havesor no avatarCapella..you suxor
Larry Boy is a sodemite.
dude, now your becoming delusional...YOU are the sodomite... with Nipsey... who does it with Kobe, too....I am not...
What, so this is what this is about? Because I wouldn't take your test? Fine you want me to take your test, I'll take your test, is that what you want?

I noticed that the Cellar Dwellers locked up their first win of the year this morning. A 5-3 victory over.....Nipsey. Bob Hamelin drives in all 3 runs and Les Straker goes 7 innings strong.Joe Morgan reaches bases 5 times (2hits, 3BBs)and is never driven in....

I'm in for the 24 team all time draft. 1900-1990, 3rd best year or worse for the sim. :hophead:
I am in too, although I think I said this before. Is this the season to start after this current one, or running concurrent?

I think we may want to take a week or two off, after this thing wraps up in April.

Read back a few pages..there was much laughter.

While we are on the subject, six days from today is the 25th anniversary of the "Miracle on Ice".
####ing hockey.
On Friday (not sure if its this or next) I am going to see the Soundtigers play at the Nassau Coliseum. They are the Isles minor league franchise from Bridgeport. Going to be some VERY pissed off, roudy, drunk, long island white trash isles fans there.

Perfect. 24 team all time without those extra few years will make the pickings get awful thin, awful quick. Great as the number one overall pick will be, having your #2 pick be the 50th player will make things interesting. Mark Belanger, I hear you calling. You too Bumbry.

Great. That will give me plenty of time to develop my Whatifsports VBD drafting application. :D Do you think they'll give me a download of all players?

Preferably, do you think they'll give us their algorithms for normallizing players from different eras? My pre-1900 players with career .333 BAs make Wayne Krenchicki look like Babe Ruth in this thing.

No algorithm :fishing:

Take Johnny ####### Mize.Larry Mize WOULD have been the better pick at this point.

Hijackers..you were supposed to take the third season. I know you guys talked about second in your draft thread, but I thought we all cleared it that it was the third before we got started.Enter Harrier's whining.... :violin:
What whining? Why would we care if they were cheating to win? I thought we didn't care what they did or what the consequences were...

I'm sure it was just a mistake--of course. He wasn't trying to win or anything, I'm sure.

Yeah, Rivera has two seasons on the Bullet Joe's. 1996 & 2003.
Well ... the two Marianos have a combined ERA over 9.00. Ones at 10.33 over 9 IP, the other is at 8.33 over 6 IP.Still, though, there shouldn't be any duplicate players allowed.
:bump:
Lots of guys on there are not 3rd season--and judging by the team record, I wouldn't say they're stinking it up.
