And opinion is all I am talking about. Not everyone is going to agree that Crawford should hit that many homeruns if in fact he does. I would agree that the WIS algorithm did in fact do what it was designed to do.

Spock - how many homeruns do you think Crawford would hit if he played in this ERA? What is your opinion?

Is his home ballpark Coors Field?Also, if he starts swinging for the fences, does his batting average drop and his strikeouts increase as well?

I think for this sim his home park is Ebbets field.Do you think he wasn't swinging for homeruns in his era? By the stats, it looks like he's one of the few guys who did.

OK - say his AVG decreases and his Ks increase, what' the number of homeruns?

For example, what do you think Eddie Murray's 32 homeruns in '82 would equate to today?

How it would change depends greatly on what he decides to do as a hitter. Just because the fences are closer doesn't mean that he is going to start putting air under the ball. Clemente could have hit a lot more home runs in his career if he changed his hitting style, but he chose to hit line drives. I don't understand why people think they KNOW how a player would play in a different era. Many people just KNOW Sean Casey could hit more home runs as well if he chose to swing for the fences, but he as well choses to hit line drives. Some of them clear the fence. Most others go for singles and doubles.

But my point is Crawford was trying to hit home runs even in his era. That's how he got 16!

How? By hitting the ball in the air so that it clears the wall 400 and 500 feet away? Or by hitting a line drive that goes for an inside the park home run in those vast outfields?

If you start equating Crawford to Sean Casey I'm going to have to go check myself into the hospital...

I didn't. The point is just because a player could swing to hit it over the fence, doens't mean they would swing to hit it over the fence. Clemente and Casey are examples of guys who could, but chose line drive styles of hitting.

OK. I've just finished my morning read of the thread and have made a decision:

All secondary sims will no longer be discussed in this thread. They take away from the primary sim and judging from some of the comments, it's affecting the minds of some. All secondary sims should be posted on the gay sideboard. That way, the tools who belong there can yap about it amongst themselves while searching through lame porn (and it IS lame). This ruling is final and not up for discussion.

I know most of you wish you could go back in time and see things my way about the hijackers, as they've clearly struck a huge blow to our once happy fraternity.

it's been a while since you used it..thus, it's fair game.'winner' was a bad alias, but it was harrier, so I'm not offended. kind of like a ######ed kid pushing over a trash can. you might get angry at first, but then you just smile and help him back to bed.

Back to the deadballers - Crawford, like most great power hitters, doesnt necessarily swing "for the fences" everytime. You go up there and you swing hard. You make good contact, at the right angle, and you get an extra base hit.

Back in the day, extra base hit meant he was going for doubles and triples since there were rarely fences within the same county. If you assume he changes his swing a little, I dont think you would see a big difference in Ks... but I lot of those long line drives that became triples would be home runs - especially in todays park.

I can only assume outfielders played RIDICULOUSLY deep back in the day also, because if the ball went over their head you would have issues. So how would this affect things as well.

In the end, great hitters are great hitters. Great power hitters are great power hitters. The top 2-3 power hitters of any era would be one of the better if not best of another era. Not sure why this is so difficult to come to a consensus upon.

Spock, while ajdustments have some subjectivity, they are far from completely subjective.Going off the numbers along with the stories passed down from people from that day, is it so difficult to extrapolate that someone who hit the tar out of the ball with no fences would hit the tar out of the ball with fences?

And if everyone who can hit the ball pretty hard can get 30 HRs, that someoen who hits the tar off the ball could hit more?

Yes, some subjectivity. I dont think as much as you portray though. And obviously, we can "never know" so we wont come to a clear answer any time soon.

Players will draft a fresh team. There will be no more sims with the players we currently have on our rosters. Trust me, I'd like nothing more than have Frank Tanana and Rollie for a second go 'round, but it'd be unfair to the league on my end if that happened.

I'm getting ready to draw the numbers and start the new thread once I get the OK from John. He has some really neat things lined up at WIS for the next one. I'm looking forward to it.
