OK, here are the WIS sim engine changes taking place on March 14th:

Engine Changes

* Improved distribution of extra base hits. Based on a couple threads in the forum, we looked into how we were calculating hit types. It turned out some hitters weren’t being accurately represented in the slugging percentage category (extra base hits). So, we improved the logic and there will be a better distribution of extra base hits for certain types of players. Those players that have been hitting home runs and lots of singles will now begin to hit the same amount of homers, but all those singles will begin turning into more doubles and triples depending on the player’s stats.

* Improved batting average allowed for pitchers. Since we first created the baseball engine, we’ve managed to expand the quantity of stats we use in the engine. This release will include a better calculation for pitcher’s batting average allowed. Since this value is used in the normalization process for our batter-pitcher matchups, the outcomes will be even more accurate.

* Intentional Walk logic. Based on much feedback from users, we’ve reworked how we handle intentional walks. Although you’ll still see the IBB used, it won’t be used so heavily and you’ll NEVER see the potential winning run put on base.

* We’ve added a new manager setting that will allow users to decide whether they want their starting pitchers to pitch in relief when necessary. Basically, they will be treated as long relief pitchers and the inning they will be available is based on their fatigue. The next game’s starting pitcher won’t be used, however.

* Improved position player fatigue. Position player fatigue will now play a heavier role so those players with 500 PA won’t be able to accumulate 650 PA without paying a price. In addition, position player fatigue will now affect fielding and speed.

* Various minor bug fixes

Good, maybe now John Martinez and Co. can fix the bug that is causing my team to hemmorage losses.

btw, this was a heck of a game: BoxScore

went scoreless into the bottom the 9th.

this is my first shutout of the year. also, Slick Castleman just beat Capella's squad 2 starts ago despite entering that game with an ERA over 8. Now, he beat UCONN as well. After pitching nearly 8 shutout innings, his ERA has dropped to a svelte 7.17.

here was the game-winning run:

Bottom 9: King Kelly's All-Stars

Spike Owen lines out. Robby Thompson gets walked. [1] Bill Buckner hits into a fielders choice. [1] Bill Buckner is being pinch-run for by Billy Martin. Urbane Pickering hits a groundball double down the LF line. Martin scores from first.

Uh Oh

Bottom 10: King Kelly's All-Stars

Urbane Pickering gets walked. [1] Tony Clark strikes out. Troy O'Leary strikes out. Phil Plantier hits a line drive double to right center. Pickering scores from first.

Kobayashi Maru 4 11 0

King Kelly's All-Stars 5 11 0

I call foul on this. Those ##### umpires always send the guy back to third even if he is halfway home when the ball leaves the field of play. Highly unlikely that Billy Martin scores from first on a ground ruled double to LEFT FIELD even if he was running on the play. :bs:

Take it up with Mr. Martinez. I'm just here for the ride.

When the thread ends, can the last post be something poignant? You know, like the last episode of Cheers when Sam looks around the bar, checks out the wooden indian and shuts the lights off? It'd be a shame if the last post in the thread was Koya yapping about Bubbles Hargrave or something. This is important in case a few hundred years from now people find the thread. You kind of want them tearing up at the last post and saying "wow."

I think if everyone, as a group, takes Larry_boy off their ignore list right at the end, that would really tug at the audience's heartstrings. Throwing in a dragon reference or two probably wouldn't hurt either.

Can someone please summarize this thread for me please?
Everyone's ignoring me because I cheated.
I'd have to agree with that.
:goodposting: f'n Rude Dude's team just beat mine...
didn't you say you were starting all your backups against me?not smart.

:own3d:
:wall: The bad thing is the back-ups beat you. That game I played my starters (your pitchers must have went from left to right or vice-versa and I didn't get in to switch for that game) and got shut-out. I see the winning run was also tainted...

Dragon #### has made its way into my everyday vocabulary. It's usually a toss up on whether I use that or damn. People are starting to look at me like I'm crazy.

Thought Nipsey would appreciate this thread on WIS.
I can't say that I approve of this thread. Last time I chcked, none of those fat ### fanboys had ever seen the field of play in the major leagues. Maybe they should put the ####### jelly donuts down and get outside and exercise a bit before they go criticizing a generation of players that had more talent in their small toe than the critics have in their entire body. Not to make my point overlong, but in my day, we draft a fifth of whiskey during the game and had to train with methods that were so primitive they made Rocky's workout in Rocky IV look like a comprehensive elctronic circuit training system manned by robots from the planet Voltron. Maybe fantasy boys should get out of their moms' basements and see the real world.

Nips blow a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the 8th to lose 6-5 in 10. What I would give to have a guy like Paul Quantrill in my bullpen.....

Desperation has set in...I've put Bobby Bonds into the lineup. It's actually sparked my offense..won 3 out of 4 or something.

WhatIfSports MaintenanceThis section of the site is currently down for maintenance.SimLeague upgrade currently in progress. We apologize for the inconvenience
season 2 starts in 1 day...let's see how different the new engine is...

I'm glad that the fine folks at WIS saw the problems with their sim, and made the necessary changes to rectify the situation.Might be a burden for some other leagues to have the day off, but it was overdue. No way my team should be that bad. Glad my e-mails finally touched a nerve and they saw fit to do what was right. After this, I should be in first place in a week or so.

JM is a stubborn man, glad he finally came around. Could all those free pizzas from Mr. Ham have had anything to do with the changes? Why do I have a feeling King Kelly will be #1 in the MVP voting after this so called whatif "maintenance" occurs.

As if King Kelly doesn't deserve to be the MVP...

let's see how different the new engine is...
Already noticed one difference before the games even start back up.Catcher Ernie Lombardi was at 98% fatigue after the first game versus Cellar Dwellers. So I put him on rest for the next two games (the last two before the engine update).

Well, now he's down to 95%, even with two games rest. Looks like low at-bat guys are going to tire more easily and need longer to recover than before.

:bs: MVP voting begins and ends with Jimmie Foxx. No one is surprised at how good Ruth is but Foxx is the Cinderella story. Came out of nowhere to dominate. Might finish with 200 runs and rbi.

Cobb is down to 94%. Might have to rest him since my squad will score about 80 runs the next 3 games.
