This isn't getting enough praise. All of the success the Packers have had since the departure of Favre started with the hiring of Ted Thompson. When a GM's first ever pick is spending a 1st rounder on a QB when currently starting a HoF QB, then going on to build a yearly playoff contender and Super Bowl Champion, you gotta pay the man respect. Whatever he makes, it isn't enough.
I like how Ted works but defensively his drafts have sucked since Matthews - Raji
Easy, killer. You can't draft MVPs every year. Any GM would give his left nut to hit on one guy like Rodgers over his entire career. And Ted has a LOT more hits than just Rodgers. Yes, he has busts, but his bust rate is actually far lower than almost every GM out there. There was a retroactive draft study done by PFF a while back, examining the past decade of drafts. Ted broke the scale with like a 6.0 rating. There were only two other GMs in the past decade with a rating above 3.0. The average was set to zero, so half had negative ratings.
Hmm...because I can only think of one really good defensive player he has drafted since his coup in grabbing Matthews in the trade up a few years ago. Heyward of course. And he could be a one-year wonder. The rest are a bunch of JAGs. Mike Neal, Brad Jones, Datone Jones, Nick Perry, Worthy, Hyde. All are ok. But the defense lacks uumph now because most of the guys playing are just not that good.

I'm really hopeful that Peppers can come in and revitalize the unit but I fear he'll be used up by December.

The way the league has trended, who cares if he's drafted very many good defensive players? The rules clearly favor offenses, and Ted has built a perennial top-5 offense who is in the playoff hunt every year. That's the best you can hope for as a GM. You guys are just expecting way too much.

Something that people seem to miss is that last year, before week 6, the Packers had a top 7 overall defense. The talent is very much there. Shields, Tramon, Heyward are all very good corners. Hyde is a playmaker in waiting. Datone was expected to take a year to transition to his new role - foolish to expect anything of him last year. Perry was coming into his own during the Colts game (that sack on Luck was sick) but then he got hurt, and Mathews got hurt, and everyone else got hurt. I would argue the talent on the Packers' defense is top 15 easily - they just need to stay healthy.

Too early on Perry, Jones, Worthy and Hyde at this point.

Neal has been pretty goo din the switch to LB.

Daniels is pretty darn good too.

Now take into account that he gets hurt in this conversation by Tramon and Shields being undrafted guys.

OL Don Barclay carted off at todays practice. Right leg.

That's pretty big as he was the main backup for just about everyone.

:(

I know the big boys usually get a cart for just about anything because... they're big.

Hopefully it's nothing too serious because he was versatile guy.

ETA: ugh...

McCarthy not striking a hopeful tone with Barclay. Confirms it's his knee. Being evaluated.

Hope so.

Yeah...coaches love his versatility.

Just makes it that much more important for Sherrod, Linsley, and Taylor to actually be up to speed.

Rest of the big boys really need to stay healthy.

Ugh.

Rodgers looked good blocking. Bostick looked good as well. Quarless with a few mistakes. It's a two-man competition. Adams dropped two punts.

Hard to evaluate much with that rain. It was miserable. Radio said 3" fell from warmups til halftime.

I still don't know how much Id ever put Adams back on punt returns.

The few things I saw...(and have not watched the 2nd half yet)

-Starks looked like last year, still running hard and the Oline gave him decent holes to run through along with some nice cuts by him.

-Oline blocked decent for Flynn, but I think the Titans were running pretty vanilla base 3-4 stuff especially early on.

Defense looked like #### again. Allowing people to extend plays and drives.
lolwut?

The first team defense made them punt 5 times. The Titans offense only score was because Adams' muff gave them the ball on the 13-yard line.
Guessing it was the one play by Whitehurst were he was chased around by 2 bigger guys (couldn't see who they were) only to see him get out of it and complete a pass.

Though, Id say evaluating even the starters in that rain when the Titans were basically just running simple run plays for a bit isn't all that valuable of information right now.

Mike Neal missed the tackle on him.

Thanks...I was busy trying to deal with 2 kids in the rain (one who was loving it...and my daughter who just wanted to be dry again).

Jerel Worthy traded to the Pats for a future pick, pending physical.

Edit link
Wow. The Pack must really not think much of him.
Given his contribution (or lack therof so far) I wouldn't blame them.

Or just a guy that they thought would fit with what they want to do but couldn't (that and sheer numbers on the line not sure if they could keep him)

Thought he looked like a decent fit with how he would get inside pressure at MSU though.

Wish him well...hope he is good enough to get us a decent pick...but not too good.

Though...as a couple posts replying to the tweet...isn't he hurt...how is he going to pass a physical?

Interesting stuff. Vic was just beating the drums earlier today about giving time for guys to develop (specifically mentioned Worthy). It only took him a few hours to eat crow on that one. But usually (almost always) Vic is right so I'll let this one pass.

Figured this would be a good place to ask this....

Which receiver do you homers see having a better season in a PPR -- Cobb or Nelson? They are both gonna be staring me in the face late in the 2nd, and it is so so close in my mind. I keep going back and forth.

Cobb in ppr but they'll be close enough to be a tossup imo.Don't sit on Jeff "V-12"Janis!

That sucks about Raji.

Looking forward to playing Seattle relatively healthy. I think Packers win it outright. Let alone being 6 point dogs.

Raji tore his bicep last night, Rapoport reporting....no one else confirmed yet.
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter · 3hPackers NT B.J. Raji is out for the season, as many suspected, with a torn bicep.
Ooof...while he was not great the last few years...he had been looking pretty decent back at NT thus far this preseason.

Pickett in play again? Jolly(depending on his neck)? Any other vets?

That sucks. The silver lining might be that the Packers can have a chance to unEarth his replacement now. They just don't have much true beef on the DL.

Some thoughts on cut down day.

QB: After last year, I think they should keep 3 (and I think most fans would agree). Though, tempting to see what a team like St. Louis would offer for one of them???

RB: Already set with Lacy, Starks, Harris, and Kuhn

WR: 5...Cobb, Nelson, Boykin, Adams, Janis (love what Janis could become)

TE: Bostick, Rodgers, Quarles, Taylor (possibly keep 5 here...but I would rather that roster spot be used elsewhere...Perillo to the PS)

OL: Bulaga, Sherrod, Bakhtiari, Linsley, Tretter, Sitton, Lang, Taylor Do they keep 8 til Tretter comes back?

Specialists: Crosby, Masthay, Goode

DL: Boyd, Guion, Jones, Daniels, Pennel (with Neal and even Peppers able to play on the DL at times...5 here may seem right...probably 6 if not for the Tretter injury)

OLB: Matthews, Peppers, Neal, Perry, Elliot, Mulumba

ILB: Jones, Hawk, Barrington, Lattimore

CB: Williams, Shields, Hayward, Bush, House, Rolle

S: Burnett, Clinton-Dix, Hyde, Banjo

I think that may be 52.

Extra OL? or DL?

Now reading that sources are saying they will only keep 2 QBs.

I don't get it.

After last year, why not have the option for 3...if my numbers are ok above, they seem to have the room to keep 3.

Probably keep 5 TEs or something instead (which makes zero sense to me).

Tolzien won't make it to the PS...and, as we learned last year, Flynn just seems to fit well both in the system on the field and with Rodgers on the sidelines and in the film room.

Im not sure Tolzien is ready to be the guy yet.

I'd keep Tolzien... You know what you have in Flynn: consistent "meh". I get that you don't discount consistency, but if you can perhaps transcend "meh" to at least "above average", then you have to give Tolzien a shot after what he's shown this preseason.

Nobody seems to know if it will be 1 or 2 QBs. Predictions seem to be all over the place. Speculation I've read is that they could cut Flynn and he'd be available later as he is seen around the league as only a success in GBs system.
