Okay co op play might be enough to get me to buy this game. What does Co-Op play entail anyway?

Damn you guys.... I've not bought a game in almost a decade and I'm about to buy this one.

$59.95 everywhere? Is it still impossible to find or will my local target/Best buy have it? I think im gonna buy it tonight...
Basically, co-op is a 16-player massively open-world GTA playground. You can do pretty much everything you've been reading about us doing in single-player, albeit with co-op play. A la, you can team up with a friend for a fast-paced, dangerously frantic ride to... the golf course for a quick game on the back nine. Alternatively, you can team up with an entire crew of your friends to pull off your own online heists and/or complete other missions tailor-made for the online experience.

I think the most amazing aspect of the entire online experience -- at least in regards to how well Rockstar Games meticulously planned and then coded out this game -- is that in your online world, you can be chilling inside your safe house, feet up on your coffee table on the couch, watching TV. Turn on the special live breaking news TV channel and you can watch, in real-time, as your friend half the online world away makes a frantic dash to escape from police along with his four-star wanted level. You could even get your lazy ### off the couch and try and go find (and subsequently help) him if you wish.

All of the offline staples of the game like the stock market and real estate system also will be making the switch to online play. The stock market, however, is going to be much more realistic and dynamic. While sometimes it's a bit hard to directly effect the stock market all by yourself in the offline version of the game, it can still be done if you've got enough determination -- so just imagine how much the market is going to swing back and forth on -- IIRC -- somewhere between 60-80+ different individualized stocks, but with SIXTEEN anarchic mofos going to town to tear up the status-quo.

Throw in the fact that you can also dive into your standard 2, 4, 8 or 16 player deathmatch -- in addition to there being an online creator tool so that players can literally create their own game types, missions and deathmatch locales/settings, and it's really just frigging awe-inspiring. Even if Rockstar Games hadn't even bothered to do an online component to the game and just gave us the amazing, nearly-damn-flawless experience of the offline version, it'd still be an accomplishment among the likes the video game industry has never seen before. But this online version? It's just straight off the chain, homes.

Oh, I almost forgot. They're also going to be evolving the online portion of the game so that it will be its own entity down the road the further away we get from the initial GTA5 launch. Mainly in that they're going to be creating new settings, missions, storylines and gameplay mechanics completely independent and separate from the GTA5 universe. Think the GTA4 expansion packs -- The Lost and the Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony -- but online and probably much better.

You can also completely customize your own online character complete with a backstory and your choice of one of thousands of different crews to roll with (we're in the process, hopefully, of hammering out the details to create our own FBG/FFA crew to unleash upon the GTA: Online world -- the airliner industry is hereby put on full alert).

I'll stop trying to hard sell it on you now. I think the reactions and comments from everyone in this thread themselves are more than enough to convince you that this game is most certainly worth your while. I mean, all the cool kids are doing it. And they're not doing it just because everyone else is doing it, they're doing it because it's so frigging fun it almost hurts when you're not playing it.

Lastly, you should be able to go to Gamestop in the next few days/weeks and buy a used version of the game for probably around $50ish dollars. Alternatively, if you have any games you don't play or don't really like very much, you can trade these in at Gamestop and they'll give you -- usually a laughably, almost criminally low offer, but still credit nonetheless -- towards any new purchases. And if you don't have any games yourself, just find one of your friends or family members that do and ask to "borrow" some of their relatively older titles in the hopes they'll forget you borrowed them and you won't have to eventually explain to them that you accidentally traded them in at Gametop to get your GTA5 fix.

But yeah, either way, Gamestop is probably your best bet -- at least if you want to get your fix on relatively soon.

And trust me, sir, you definitely want to get your fix in on this shizzle as soon as humanly possible. The best of luck to you!

TL;DR: Online version of game is like online version, but with more crack. Check Gamestop in the next few days for the early traded-in used copies of GTA5, probably around the $50ish price tag. Feel free to steal your friends or families games to trade-in to Gamestop towards your purchase of GTA5 as well.

I heard an employee at GameStop speculating that they might sell the Online version as a standalone DLC or whatever separate from the game at some point.

Jgalligan> count me in for a crew. Simple muscle is fine by me, no ranking wanted.

ETA:

1. Name (up to 20 total characters) Don't Care

2. In-game shorthand name abbreviation/acronym (up to 4 total characters) DC?

3. Crew color (can be pretty much any color your little interior-designing heart's ever desired)DC?

4. Invite only (basically provides a password to join the group so we won't have to worry about any unwanted peeps upsetting our little apple cart) YES - FFA only

5. Crew type (choose between: chatter boxes, thrill seekers, rebels, soldiers and all-stars) 1. Thrill seekers 2. Rebel

6. Crew motto (up to 64 total characters) Don't Care
Okay cool, good stuff! If everyone can do this, that would be absolutely fantastic and would make us all coming to some kind of general consensus much, much easier. Or we can all argue it out like barbarians and eventually go to far, ultimately setting up some kind of FBG/FFA crew civil war split that would result in two or three separate rival crews.

I'm getting waaaaay too into this, sorry...

Here's my picks for the crew stuff:

1. Name (up to 20 total characters): FBG Mob

2. In-game shorthand name abbreviation/acronym (up to 4 total characters): FBG or FFAG

3. Crew color (can be pretty much any color your little interior-designing heart's ever desired): Either the dark blue of the site design or the subtle yellow of the smiley/crazy face logo

4. Invite only (basically provides a password to join the group so we won't have to worry about any unwanted peeps upsetting our little apple cart): Invite only fo' sho

5. Crew type (choose between: chatter boxes, thrill seekers, rebels, soldiers and all-stars): 1. Rebels // 2. Thrill Seekers

6. Crew motto (up to 64 total characters): "You can't bull#### a bull####ter."

Yeah, I imagine down the road they'll have to at some point -- especially for the next-gen Xbox One and PS4 systems. But from what I've read in interviews, they're going to be utilizing the GTA5 in-game online portal over the course of the next year or two at least.

Explain to this to me like I'm an online playing dunce (I am). Does this mean a FBG crew of 16 guys will have their own persistent world in which we can do missions and cause havoc vs. NPCs? Or will there be a new version of Los Santos generated every time a crew member logs in? Or will we just log in to a random server that can have a max of 16 players (any crew) at any time?

Also, in the interests of starting up the discussion/debate regarding the FBG/FFA crew, what does everyone think would be a solid, super gangster name?

Actually, on second thought, let's discuss everything -- here's all of the initial crew creation decisions you have to make:

1. Name (up to 20 total characters) whatever

2. In-game shorthand name abbreviation/acronym (up to 4 total characters)FBG

3. Crew color (can be pretty much any color your little interior-designing heart's ever desired)black and red with black eye joe

4. Invite only (basically provides a password to join the group so we won't have to worry about any unwanted peeps upsetting our little apple cart)invite

5. Crew type (choose between: chatter boxes, thrill seekers, rebels, soldiers and all-stars)1 rebels 2 thrillseekers

6. Crew motto (up to 64 total characters)let one of the creative homies come up with one

Let the brainstorming and debate begin!

It's completely customizable basically. The online co-op world you join is persistent, but you also don't have to solely stay in that world all the time. For instance, when you play 2-on-2, 4-on-4 or 8-on-8 crew vs. crew deathmatches, you'll either enter their crew, they'll enter yours or you'll just create a completely new, temporary world solely for the purpose of that deathmatch.

In regards to the worlds and your crew members, you can either populate your entire online world with up to 15 other fellow gang members or you can do, say, 7 of your crew members plus you and then just have the other 8 spots be random (or alternatively let another crew battle you for supremacy).

Basically, you can either choose to stay within your one persistent world with the other 15 players for as long as you want or you can switch it up and join up other worlds with other crew members (if you have more than 16 members in your crew at least) whenever you'd like. Basically, whenever you create a world and fill in the spots, any of the players within that world can opt-out of said world at any time if they so choose.

The only thing I'm not entirely sure of is whether or not you'll be able to carry over your earnings/money, real estate and vehicles from world-to-world. Obviously you'll be able to have your same customized character be able to switch to different worlds, but I haven't discovered whether or not what you earn and collect within your respective world(s) will solely be restricted to that world itself.

Maybe since there's really no limit on the amount of members you can have in your crew, however many worlds you have that're staffed with your fellow crew members, you'll be able to transfer money, real estate and vechicles in between them maybe? I'm not sure.

Anyway, hopefully that made some semblance of sense, because it sounded kind of gobbledegukeish while I was typing it...

Ah yeah, good call. 360 here.

Yeah, it's still funny to walk up to a group of people and start dumping gasoline around them and watch them scream and run away. It also doesn't seem to trigger aggro... I wonder what would happen if you did it to a cop..
Update: they don't much care for it

Can you join more than one crew? Currently in one with some friends and Rockstar employees right now and would also like to check out the FBG one.

Yeah, you can join up to five different crews max, so you're all set. I'll add you to the list -- what system are you playing on?

Okay cool -- all updated. Welcome to the Lollipop Guild!

ETA: Actually, that may very well be a pretty solid name for the crew, right there. What's everyone else think? Is it as good as it's sounding in my head or am I being seduced by it through a hazy, inauthentic fog of sub-par whiskey?

Huh, how does that happen?
The BAWSAQ market is linked to player activity. Reddit is trying to basically run a boiler room scheme on HAL, pump and dump. Before they started it was trading at like $1 or so, now its at $4.

TIL not only that pump and dump is actually a thing, but also what it is.

Game purchased. May fire it up tonight. target had plenty of copies.
Nice! :hifive:

Do you want me to add you to the list of the FBG/FFA online crew list? (If so, just lemme know whether you have a 360 or PS3)
360

But don't have live right now and will likely want to figure this out before I do much. I've played a few of the older GTAs though so I'm not a total nOOb

Ah okay, no problem.

I put you down on a separate list called "Future Recruits/Call Me Later Maybe's." You know, in case we end up going to war and have to go to the mattresses and need to call in reinforcements, etc. etc. imo.

ETA: Almost forgot... HAVE FUN! :pickle:

Not an online player.

Just did the jewelry heist. Took the most expensive crew and went the easy way. Cleaned the place out. 4 mil total gross take. It says my crew is getting a mil so I should be clearing a mil. We will see. Trevor is a fracking nut job so far..... Oh my

Just did some money farming with the $25k just north of the Santa Monica Pier (or whatever its equivalent in the game is). It works!

BTW, PS3 user here, which is making me feel kinda ronry. :kicksrock:

Also a PS3 player.

It's you and me, Brady, jacking planes and setting fools on fire.

I just had a vision of a group of guys online sitting in the strip club throwing dollars at a virtual stripper while chatting on headsets.

Let's be sure to never be those guys, fellas. Never.

Also, I want to thank GTA for inspiring me to visit my first strip club in years. Heading there tonight with a group of friends. My one buddy's bisexual girlfriend is not only coming, she's offered to be the DD.

See you Monday boys, when I get out of the clink.

Tried to do some money farming tonight but the 12k up north by the plane tail is tough for me to get. It's so deep and I suck at swimming. Can't see it half the time either.

Go at night since it'll glow a little for you.

There's also supposed to be an RPG near that $12k case, but I haven't tried looking for it yet.

I will probably finish the main story tonight or tomorrow . I hate to see this come to an end. The story has been very entertaining with lots of twists and turns.

I'm in for the Xbox crew, but I want no responsibilities. Favor the Thrill Seeker type as I don't give a crap about stats or ranks or whatever. I want to base jump into the back of a moving car and then get road head from a hooker while running over a construction crew.

1) Whatever is fine with me. Maybe Free For Allstars? Kinda lame. Mr.PicklesCrew? I'mShuked? Thats better imo.

2) FFA is fine with me, or anything

3) Don't care. Like green.

4) Yes, only FFA people.

5) Thrill Seekers

6) Really? <--- this is a suggestion, not a question.

I'm pretty sure you can change/edit the name's and stuff after you've created the crew, so I'm going to just go ahead and call it the FBG crew so we can at least start getting things setup and kicked off. I'll post the link and passwords to join up here shortly.

Not sure if this was posted yet. $25,000 briefcase, looks like it's in shallower water than the one by the plane wreck, and the video shows how to keep switching characters so you rack up the money over and over quickly.

PS3 here as well.

I've only played for about 5 hours since I got it on Tuesday. The last one I played was San Andreas for PS2. Not so sure about using the L and R buttons for driving etc. Getting the controls down has taken some getting used to. I've done a few missions and don't have much of the map uncovered yet. There's just so much detail I don't know where to go and what to do.

Is there a track listing for the radio stations somewhere? In the past the station genre descriptions at least have been in the insert.

#### yes. THAT'S What I need to get some decent guns/armor.

Completed a couple missions last night and getting the hang of it. Hit the obligatory strip club. Not bad. Apparently some strippers are willing to go home with you and some arent' (random?). Got one and then accidentally ran over her. Oh well.

Struggling to make any money so will prob cheat and use that exploit to get my guy armed up properly and then start building the character a little (tips?). Is the best approach to build your guy just to complete missions?

I'm having a little trouble identifying the next mission to complete.. might cheat and do a walkthrough. So far did a tow mission for that trashing ##### across from the auto shop. Repo'd the first car and then the bike. That's about it though.

Tried to pick up some cash by beating up random people but cops end up on the scene pretty quickly. I run from them by just driving like a maniac. Some other board mentioned going offroad and hiding as a better idea?

TIA.

1. Yes, some strippers will go home and others won't. I've found the ones with tattoos and a bit less generic voice acting will.

2. Strength, stamina, and shooting are pretty easy to build up by just ####### around and clocking random people, running around, and shooting stuff.

3. Tow missions suck, but when they're done, you don't have to mess with crack ho anymore.

4. Offroading is good as long as you're in a spot where there's no roads. Other good ares include the Los Santos River (some tunnels if you look closely), a bridge, rooftops, bushes, or hiding at a house or a garage. You can get the cops off your ### with ease if you just know where to go.

Okay, so apparently we have to be friends on the Social Club for me to invite anyone if the crew is private. So if you don't have a Rockstar Social Club account yet, just head on over here to register and get one: https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/signup

Once you have an account all setup, reply back here with your name so I can invite/friend you into the crew. Even though 360 and PS3 owners won't be able to play against/with one another, obviously, we actually don't need to make two separate crews since both groups can be in the same crew, albeit just play separately. So that's good, I guess.

Anyway, I know this is a pain in the ### but it's the last step towards being a member of the crew, so suck it up, son!

I have a few train/river tunnels marked as points of interest for those times when I have a 3+ star wanted level.

Here's a tip: just as in real life, it's not a good idea to steal a car when you're right in front of the police station.
