Just getting started playing GTAV. One of my main disappointments (aside from gun aim being crap again) is that cars don't have GPS like they did in most high end cars in GTAIV. What I did in GTAIV was turn off the mini-map directions, so that I could immerse myself into the city, and when I didn't know where I was going, that got me looking for cars that had GPS. I learned the city much faster than when I would keep my eyes on the mini-map the whole drive. Not an option in this game, even though it tries to mirror real life and most cars come with them standard now.

I also wish I could better tell whose mission I'm walking up to. I see a marker on the street and head for it and then it turns out it's a mission that's triggered by the other character.

Anyway, minor complaints aside, it's still a great game and can see that it's gonna take away from me playing the BF4 beta.
I don't remember if it was like this before all three were unlocked, but each character's missions are a different color on the mini-map. Trevor's orange, Michael's blue, and Frank's green I believe.
I didn't really notice a color difference. I'll see if I can tell when I play again. But thanks for the tip.
The letters are all different. Hopefully, this time, I didn't upset you with my answer to your question.

Colorblind?

I didn't mean it to come out that way. Sorry about that. Again, I was just making mention of a minor thing that was in the last game. I'm having a blast with it, so it's not a big deal. The color difference should help. I couldn't tell before, but I'll pay more attention.

I'm actually not. But I did notice a few complaints about that from other people without color issues. (See Kotaku article - I notice he mentions the absense of GPS in cars too. :thumbup: )

Just noticed on the ifruit app that I can look at my stats for each character. Pretty neat:

Trevor (31% used) -- 451 kills, 46 cops killed, top speed 101.47 mph, 306k in cash

Franklin (37% used) -- 187 kills, 9 cops killed, top speed 142.34 mph, 692k in cash

Michael (32% used) -- 313 kills, 23 cops killed, top speed 116.54 mph, $4k in cash

Need to buy something with Franklin or invest that ish.
Is this ifruit app only available on the iphone?

In addition to our official crew "action" we also have formal individual ranks. This is apparently completely different from your crew ranking and basically illustrates how high ranked you are individually. Mainly because -- in true RPG style -- you actually level up the more experience you earn/get.

More importantly, these can be edited/customized, so I basically wanted to check with you all to see what theme or changes you guys possibly wanted to make. For instance, I want to add leg-breaker, gunman, capo and assassin ranks to replace some of the following. So if anyone has any suggestions, lemme know.

Here are the official default ones, though:

Rank 1-10:

Thug

Rank 11-20:

Hustler

Rank 21-30:

Soldier

Rank 31-40:

Trigger

Rank 41-50:

Enforcer

Rank 51-60:

Facilitator

Rank 61-70:

Public Enemy

Rank 71-80:

Shot Caller

Rank 81-90:

Street Boss

Rank 91-100:

Kingpin

"Street Soldier" sounds way too competent. I feel more like a "flunkie" or a "palooka."
Yeah, I'm debating on changing that initial rank back to either Thug or Hustler. Probably Hustler, since Thug rings more-like a gang-banging style crew rather than the super competent, ruthless, professional criminal outfit we're clearing putting together here. At least Hustler kind of evokes a street-smart, con-man style role that would make sense as the initial opportunity to get one's foot into an organized crime crew.

In somewhat related news, I'm putting entirely too much thought, effort and imagination into all of this. I'm just having too much fun, though.

Thankfully my girlfriend thinks I'm hard at work doing actual work.... stuff... when in reality I'm orchestrating an entirely fake, virtual online gang.

If you want another rank below capo, you can use Capozzi. It means little captain and also is the last name of half my family, the Italian side obviously.

First tier should be "wannabe". Seemed like everyone I knew growing up was some sort of wannabe. Myself included. :bag:

At any rate, I have a new nickname for my penis.
:lmao:

Good call, good call. Editing it in now.

Here's some brand-new details that have been released on the eve of GTA: Online kicking off. While it's technically from GamingBolt.com, they basically got all of the information via an AMA on Reddit (because of course it came from an AMA on Reddit) which -- by all accounts -- has been confirmed to be legitimate. You can view said Reddit AMA its entirety by clicking right here.

Anyway, I just copy-pasted the recap of the AMA courtesy of Gaming Bolt and quoted it all below to save you the time, effort and hassle of having to open another tab(s). And thanks, I know that it was a very nice, kind and selfless thing to do... It's a gift, it's a gift! (And hey, twas very nice of YOU to say thank you -- what kind manners you have! :yes: )

GTA Online New Details: Choose Your Grandparents, Robbing Stores, Reputation, Passive Mode and More

A bevy of new details emerge one day before launch.

A Reddit user, in charge of TheGTAPlace.com, hosted an AMA to answer questions about Grand Theft Auto Online after travelling to New York at the behest of Rockstar Games.

Playing on the Xbox 360, it was stated that there were no performance issues, with no lag though that could be different based on players playing across the world instead of in the same room. Bugs were also limited, with one particular instance involving cops killing another player on the same server first before setting their sights on you. Whether this was lag or a glitch wasn’t clear, but given that this was an early build from 1 to 2 months ago, there’s a chance that such bugs would be eliminated.

Almost all clothes shops and tattoo parlours were unlocked from the start. You can also choose the appearance of your four grandparents, which will influence your character’s look. You can customize your skin colour, hairstyle, age and other stats though. You can make a new character but it’s not certain if you can change this generated character. It’s not certain if you can create multiple characters for GTA Online.

You’ll need to reach about rank 8 or 9 to buy properties but there are plenty of houses and apartments to buy across the map. When you start the game, you’ll have missions such as Deathmatch and Races in which you can bet on the winner and earn money. You can also get texts from different characters for extra jobs to earn more money. Many weapons aren’t unlocked from the start, irrespective of how much money you have, so you’ll need to upgrade your rank by completing missions to unlock them.

As far as properties went, one small house was about $20000. You can rob stores and pick up roughly $3000-$6000 each time, but there will be enough balancing to ensure that it’s not abused. How it works is that you can point a gun at the store clerk and they’ll give you money in a carrier bag till the cash register is empty. You can shout into a headset to get them to give you money, which will cause the cash to be emptied quicker. Some store owners have pistols though, so be careful when entering and leaving lest you get shot.

You’ll start off in the single-player campaign in which you can switch to multiplayer from the character menu. The process has been described as quick enough to not be frustrating.

There is also something called Passive Mode, in which players cannot be killed and will have a line through their radar icons. You can’t quite switch while on a mission, and you may need to enter free roam for it. A reputation system is also in place to ensure you don’t drop out of matches for whatever reason. Passive Mode can be entered for a price, which would be about $100 or $500.

You can also take car insurance. Simply give the contact a call and you can make a claim on the car. This won’t net a huge amount of money, but it is a good way to get your car replaced.

Missions were stated to need at least two players, though some could have as many as eight taking part and they’re adequately team-based. For example: One team will be protecting an objective while the other team is focused on eliminating it. You’ll essentially see the same kinds of missions as present in single-player but with the ability to play with friends. Rockstar Games still stuck by their 500 missions number.

Interestingly, the Social Club was experiencing network issues during the event which prevented mission/job data from being downloaed. If that was a problem, think about how it will be once millions of people access GTA Online tomorrow. You can still play with friends and access the world, but you’ll probably be prevented from accessing the latest available missions.

Grand Theft Auto Online has shipped with Grand Theft Auto 5 and will be launching tomorrow for Xbox 360 and PS3.
ETA: Oh and there also might be a prison break mission in GTA Online. No big thang. (Source: http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/17719/article/grand-theft-auto-online-to-have-prison-break/)

I love the chaos that cops cause so much, that any time I hear their sirens I run toward the noise to watch. They're always smashing into people, shooting innocents and causing almost as much mayhem as I am. Last night they had their typical shoot out that resulted in two dead bad guys and one dead cop. Free money and ammo! The other cop is standing there looking at his fallen buddy when some soccer mom in her Rover bumps into him. Not enough to knock him over, mind you -- just a little love tap. Of course, he does what any rational, sworn-to-protect-and-serve peace officer would do... pulls out his mossberg and turns that ##### into spaghetti.

I also came across a shoot out between four cop cars and some armored car robbers. Swooped in, ganked the seven racks and took off. Easy money.

Currently uploading the GTA V Online update....

Last night I decided to assault the naval base. This was pretty easy at first. The front gates won't open, and there's lots of cover, so you can sit back with a sniper rifle and take out legions of military guys. But to get in the base you have to enter via water. I swam. As soon as I hit restricted waters I got an auto 4 star wanted level. Fortunately there was a helicopter sitting there when I entered the base. I jacked it and made it pretty far before two police helicopters took me down. Weeeeee!

ETA: still have no idea what's in the actual base. As soon as I landed on the dock swarms of cops and soldiers were on me. I had to take the copter.

You have to assign the amount of hours your character spends per day doing certain activities. This allocation determines both your starting skills and (partially) your appearance.

Sleeping = 7 hours

With friends & Family = 4 hours

Sports & Working out = 5 hours

Doing legal work = 0 hours

Sitting on the couch = 0 hours

Partying = 2 hours

Doing Illegal Work = 6 hours

Name = Carl Danger (Carlos was too long)

Ooof. I couldn't host a session. It crashed when I tried and bounced me back to GTA V.

ETA: I tried twice. If the servers are this backed up at 8am, I wonder what it's going to be like after 5 when all the code monkeys come home from work?

I won't get a chance to check this out until late night.

Any chance I can give my character green skin and ripped purple pants?

It would be super helpful if you let us know roughly what things/skills those translated to in the game, and how they impact gameplay.

It shows you how it effects your skills as your set the hours. As for gameplay, gotta be the same as GTA V, I think. Driving, flying, shooting, etc.... It's just more immersive, I suppose.

Sleeping probably effects stamina. Legal work... I honestly have no idea. Maybe stamina? :confused:

Ok, while on this boring conf call I'm setting up my guy. Here's how each category affects your skillz:

Asleep:

More time Asleep = More Stamina/Strength/Stealth/Lung Capacity and vice versa (which goes for all of these)

With Friends and Family:

More = Increased Stamina/Driving

Less = Increased Shooting

Playing Sports and Working Out:

More = Increased Stamina/Strength/Lung Capacity

Less = Increased Shooting/Driving

Doing Legal Work:

More = Increased Stamina/Flying/Stealth

Less = Increased Driving

Sitting on the Couch:

More = Increased Flying/Driving

Less = Increased Stamina/Strength/Lung Capacity

Partying:

More = Increased Shooting/Stealth

Less = Increased Stamina/Strength/Flying/Lung Capacity

Doing Illegal Work:

More = Shooting/Driving

Less = Lung Capacity

Interestingly, your outfit changes based on the allocation as well. Kind of funny.

Has anyone found a good way to boost Driving?

Just driving has been increasing it, but very slowly. I understand stunt jumps increase it 1% for each second in the air. But haven't found a good spot to repeatedly stunt jump yet. Haven't spent much time trying to find a good spot either. Basically need a spot with a constant supply of cars you can use when yours gets beat up. And no cops around to bust you for stealing then (rules out airport).

Also, Franklin maxed out his Driving for me while I was breaking into a parked car. He does it by actually jimmying the lock. I tried with Trevor, went to a country club and broke into about 40 cars and saw no improvement. Trevor smashes the window though, so maybe only Franklin gets credit for it.

It's really a disappointing amount of character editing you can do. A few hairstyles, a few different looks...really not a lot there.
