[Ramsay Hunt Experience]

I haven't played a GTA game since Vice City and I never really embraced it. I love shooters but Vice City just seemed like a bunch of purposeless random violence with little else going for it.

I played Saints Row the Third and the mechanics were good enough and the story was entertaining but what I loved was the sense of humor.

GTA V looks great but does it incorporate a good sense of humor or does it take itself a little too seriously?

It's definitely not Saints Row, but it's also not GTA4 (which definitely took itself too seriously). If Saints Row is a 10 on the silliness scale and GTA4 is a 0, then GTA5 is probably like a 3 or 4.

IMO, GTAV takes absolutely nothing seriously. They literally make fun of just about everything you can imagine. Particularly if you pay attention to the radio. Hipster Euro-style soccer fans? We get the appropriate ridicule.

But the thing is that the cynicism is so constant and borderline mean-spirited that I'm not sure that the humor is often successful at lightening the mood. I'm apparently OK playing the game as an amoral sociopath, but I don't think the whimsy of the game really distracts me from that. If anything, it kind of rubs it in my face.

At least two Trevor scenes played for laughs, his introduction and "Hang Ten," actually made me feel kind of icky for playing the game. Which is weird, because I happily mowed all kinds of people down. But to have Trevor bully Floyd only to kill him and his girlfriend really made me feel weird. Way worse than the torture scene. I felt similarly to Trevor curb stomping the guy from the Lost in his introduction.

Sorry if this has been covered before. In SP mode, I've gotten very good at getting a fighter jet out of the base and getting unwanted. It appears to me that the game has a method of making sure you can't get one saved in your hangar as every time I steal one with Trevor, the engine dies when his airstrip is in sight and same for Franklin when the airport and his hangar are in sight. Am I doing something wrong, or is this just how it is? If this is the case, I'll just stop trying to get them in a hangar and just blast the #### our of things.

I've got one in Franklin's hanger, so, it lets you.

I think Righteous Slaughter is meant to be a parody of shooters like Medal of Honor and Call of Duty that glorify military service.

It's actually a pretty good example. If GTAV had a liberal sensibility, I think a lot of people would perceive that as vicious cheap shot. But because liberals are mocked just as incessantly (there are competing cartoons mocking latte liberals and social conservatives on the TV, for example) it doesn't really stand out.

Airplanes and helicopters will eventually stop working if they are shot very much. I don't mean they stop as they are being shot. I mean you fly away, are completely safe, and then they sputter and die after awhile.

In one of the GTA Mythbusters videos they showed that if a car gets shot in the gas tank it will leave behind a trail of gasoline and eventually will run out of gas and stop running. I suspect the same thing is happening with airplanes, you are leaking gas the whole way until the engine dies.

An easy solution then, is once you don't have any wanted stars, quickly switch to another character and back. Just like with cars, your plane will have all damage healed and you should be able to make it to the hangar easily.

I don't remember who first mentioned it, but I've become a big fan of the leaving a helicopter in a busy intersection with a sticky bomb attached.

I set it down, pretend I'm running into an Ammunation, and when some sneaky SOB thinks he's going to steal a helicopter, BOOM!

So Manback Hulk I and a Manback rl buddy tried to figure out the gambling system. I don't think it's beatable but here's what it seems like you have to do.

Someone bets 100 on themselves. They are going to lose this 100.

Everyone else max bets on someone else. This person wins the race.

Even if the odds start at like 15-1 they adjust down quite a bit, but it does still payout a little. Like 2500 bet gets you 3500 back.

If only one person has bets on them the betting is cancelled. That was what we were doing wrong last night on occasion.

Yeah, online was a bit sketchy at times. It kicked me back out several times.

I did some TDM last night with pure randoms. Finally figured out why building stealth stat is worthwhile. Max stealth + suppressor weapons and you are basically invisible in TDM unless someone spots you. It's just boring leveling up the stat. the youtubes of building that stat just say to do it skyrim style and always walk around in a crouch

SP stock market raped me. Did that random encounter where the stock guy tells you to buy Tingle. Buy it with all 3 of my characters last Sunday shortly before having to quit for the night. Been busy so I didn't get to play again until today. Go to check the price of Tingle as soon as it starts up and its lost 85% of its value. :-(

Franklin drove his car off the Santa Monica pier and Trevor went on quite the rampage and then tried to crash his helicopter into the Hollyvine sign...

The only thing I enjoyed were the races, but they are just crash fests and the winner of each race is the guy who somehow didnt get collided upon when the crashes started happening. Not much really. I'm back to working on single player unless a large group gets online. Once SP is done I'll probably ebay it to get rid of it before next gen consoles roll out.

Deathmatches are not that horrible now that everyone pretty much has the same weapons. When it was 5 pistols and 5 aks it was a different story.

We mostly work missions/jobs together, but will get into shootouts and jump around on bikes and take pictures doing goofy stuff and accidentally kill each other... it's a riot!

If they all disappeared I'd probably keep playing and try to make new friends, but could see dropping it and playing some of these other big new games that are coming out.

You should have a mission to go back as Michael and do something with your kids at the house. That was the only thing that stood in the way for me. After that, setting up the heist will require you to do two more missions both have an "H" on the map to show you where to go - steal a chemical agent and steal a truck. Once you finish the second H setup mission you automatically go to a movie cut screen that starts the heist.

So, either go to Michael's house or see if there are any H things on your map to go to.

You should have a mission to go back as Michael and do something with your kids at the house. That was the only thing that stood in the way for me. Hahaaaaa... I don't think he reads/writes very well (by his own admission). He is (or was) a bouncer at the strip club his wife bartends at (she's not really a stripper, it just made for a better story)... I'll invite you to play with us sometime though.

Tip for online. The race "Down the Drain" is a great way to level up and get cash fast. You get lots of EXP and even last place typically pulls in 3K. Race only takes 90 minutes if set to 1 lap. Much better rate of return than the prison loop that everyone is constantly doing.
