I feel kind of sorry for a lot of gun owners...living in such fear all the time must be draining .Scared that some bad men are going to try and kill you and your family. Scared that the government is going to take all your rights away and try to kill you. Scared that people might try and take your guns away,so you dare them to..."go ahead and try to take my guns and see what happens'. Always looking over your shoulders,waiting for the inevitable day you will need your gun. Hanging onto the 2nd amendment like a life preserver. Its really sad. It almost seems like you are all waiting for something bad to happen where you would need to use your gun,to justify all your fears.

I love how you draw this conclusion. It's so ####### cute.You really think I'm scared? With a loaded handgun and shotgun within reaching distance as I type this, I feel pretty damn safe.

People who feel safe usually don't keep multiple loaded weapons within reach while surfing the net.

Pretty obvious. I surf the net in my bedroom. I have guns in my bedroom.

I've been trying to have one all along, and this is part of it. Anyone who reacts to the very modest proposals being made (which are unlikely to pass anyhow given GOP control of the House) by stockpiling weapons is ####### crazy and scary. I don't know how else to define it, honestly. How would you define it?

Most home invasions are unoccupied homes. If somebody is breaking into an occupied home they are either looking for something else or prepared to encounter it. Either way, I wouldn't expect any home owner to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I wonder how many people reading this thread have actually been carjacked. It's happened to me. I had a gun pointed at my head and told to get out of my car and hand the guy my keys. The guy that did it was a teenager, probably scared out of his wits based on the way his voice was shaking.

Now I don't carry a gun and never had. But if I was armed, I would not have used my gun, because the moment I pulled it out this kid would probably have shot me. What good would a gun have done me in this situation? None. The safest thing I could do is simply to follow the kid's instructions.

That's a reasonable response. I also think it's reasonable to defend your house and your family.Even if I had a gun my first instict would probably be to get my family to safety. Given the layout I'm not sure that would be easy though. There's a pretty defensible position overlooking the stairs. I imagine I would just post up there and shoot anyone coming up that looked threatening. If they stayed downstairs I would wait for the police or for them to leave.

I was taught to use my best judgement and shoot as the last option if everything else fails.Now if someone breaks into my home and is armed with any type of weapon(gun,bat,etc)I will not hesitate to take the proper action to insure he is no longer a threat.Now if he comes in unarmed I will draw my weapon and advise him of my intentions if he doesn't listen.

Please don't let a select few people(or even the media)speak for all of responsible gun owners.

I think your overblowing it about the other posters. No one can tell what they would do in that situation until it happens. So saying you would do this and you would do that is nothing but pie in the sky thinking. When the #### hits the fan - THAT'S when you'll know. Most of those situations happens in seconds, not minutes, and what you'll do in those seconds is anybody's guess.The bad guy isn't going to sit and monologue like they do in the movies and give you time to decide what the best course of action is.

When did I do that? I didn't call those people crazy because they disagree with me. I called them crazy because they're stockpiling weapons. And I didn't just call them crazy, I called them ####### crazy. Please be accurate. And they are ####### crazy. ANYONE living in this country who chooses to stockpile weapons, not as a long time collection hobby, but as a sudden impulse out of fear of government seizure, is a ####### nutjob. I can't even imagine that anyone could disagree with this.

And I talked to one of those crazy people Tim was talking about and he said with the media blitz going on(you know,non-stop guns are evil talk)he wanted to buy some ammo and magazines while the price was still low because of a fear for price increases that could come soon.

He said the store was full and had a ton of women(young and old)buying a weapon for the first time because of the fear being thrown around and to protect their families.

For the umpteenth time, the gun control methods being proposed are (1) a ban on some, but not all, semi-automatic rifles, (2) a limit on high capacity magazines (3) an end to the private sales loophole. Please explain how home or personal defense is impacted in any way whatsoever by these 3 ideas. And if not, why are we discussing home defense?

Totally cool with that, if that is the decision you'd make for your family. can you understand that others may be comfortable making a different decision for theirs? One that may involve guns? I think anti gun folks are afraid of guns because a lack of familiarity with them and because of this the misguided belief that a gun in the possession of anyone turns that person into a loose canon and someone to be feared. I can tell you that I am quit certain you've been in very close proximity with some who has a concealed handgun and you made it out ok. Honest question if someone was standing over your loved one with a baseball bat about to inflict serious damage and you couldn't get there before the blow was struck would you wish for someone to take that person out with a gun before the blow was struck?

Honest question if someone was standing over your loved one with a baseball bat about to inflict serious damage and you couldn't get there before the blow was struck would you wish for someone to take that person out with a gun before the blow was struck?

And I talked to one of those crazy people Tim was talking about and he said with the media blitz going on(you know,non-stop guns are evil talk)he wanted to buy some ammo and magazines while the price was still low because of a fear for price increases that could come soon.

He said the store was full and had a ton of women(young and old)buying a weapon for the first time because of the fear being thrown around and to protect their families.

That is NOT who I was talking about. Someone going to a gun store and buying a weapon because they fear a price increase is fine. It's somewhat irrational, given the modest proposals and the unlikelihood that they'll pass a Republican House, but its fine. I was referring to Mr. Two Cents'; stories of people, already well armed, rushing into gun stores and cleaning out the stock in order to have a full stockpile just in case they're forced to resist the federal agents who will soon be coming to their door, looking to seize their guns and stick them in concentration camps.

I hate to tell you this and it may shock you but that is happening everywhere,even in my town.You are having the media spin this completely out of control and this is the result.

I wonder how many people reading this thread have actually been carjacked. It's happened to me. I had a gun pointed at my head and told to get out of my car and hand the guy my keys. The guy that did it was a teenager, probably scared out of his wits based on the way his voice was shaking. Now I don't carry a gun and never had. But if I was armed, I would not have used my gun, because the moment I pulled it out this kid would probably have shot me. What good would a gun have done me in this situation? None. The safest thing I could do is simply to follow the kid's instructions.
