Why on earth is Saunders pitching tomorrow?
I was thinking it was because he had some fabulous history vs the Yankees but he has a career 6.28 ERA and 1.57 WHIP against them. He pitched ok against them this year but not great. Maybe he has nude pictures of Mike Scioscia and Bruce Jenner? I got nothin'.
Saunders shouldn't even be pitching ahead of Santana. This is utter lunacy on the part of the Angels. My guess is that because Saunders (by the grace of jesu) held NY to 2 runs in his last outing, they're giving him the nod. Or they think a lefty pitcher can better protect against Yankee lefties abusing the short porch. I dunno. Weaver's been bad away from home (I always wonder how much this has to do with partying), but Saunders is bad everywhere. This is like taking a girl out on a 2nd date, sharting in her entree, and then walking out to leave her with the bill. I don't know what that means.
Managers have been playing hunches since the days of John McGraw. I thought Manuel was nuts last year to give big starts to another soft-tosser named Joe but Blanton came up with two quality starts in the playoffs. If Saunders gets shelled, Scioscia is wide open for criticism and the Anaheims got back home in a hole. But I can see some logic behind putting him ahead of Weaver.
I have serious man love for Scioscia, I really do. :nerd:

You see this is where Im gonna go on my Girardi rant. He uses Joba for two batter, Hughes for a few batters and now bringing out Mo. ITS A TIE GAME MOMO AND YOU JUST BLEW THREW YOUR THREE BEST RELIEVERS. What if the game goes into extra innings

I was about to rant on your rant earlier but, THIS I don't agree with........

You put your best guy in with the winning runner on 2nd, who gives a #### about the 10th if you never get there. I'd be a terrible Yankee manager, I'd bring in Mariano in the 5th with the bases juiced and a 3 run lead in the ALCS. Good move by Girardi IMO.

OK maybe one guy but to blow through both Hughes & Joba that quickly is just plain silly and its not the first time hes done it.

Yanks have been uber sloppy. Given that, I am happy to be in this situation here. Plus Rivera has thrown so few pitches he could likely pitch another inning. Hopefully we won't need it.

Mentioning Girardi in the same sentence with "moron" is one of the most assinine things I've heard - the guy is known to be more intellectual and reliant on stats more than anything else and you make him out to be the Herm Edwards of MLB or Barry Swtizer. But, I'd ride Hughes a while - Joba was a little scary.. I thought Hughes could go another inning and save Mo.

i respectfully disagree with u. i think girardi is a below avg manager and he does moronic things all the time and i have yet to see any evidence of this statistical reliance.

Here's the problem with calling that. It happens all the damn time. Hell, it happens so often we have a name for it. So you can't call it in that situation IMO. I agree with Shuke that not touching the base is BS, but that's something that needs to be emphasized by the League in spring training IMO and called properly all year long.

Only caveat is if the umps told both teams before the series that they'd be calling that by the book.

Who is the brunette they keep showing every inning in the yankees gear in like the 2nd row? Is she the twilight chick?

If you can't get a guy out coming from 2nd on a hit like that, you have no business in the OF. That's almost as embarrassing as the woman he married.

####. Damon's rag arm strikes again. And god forbid Jorge block the plate.

Ugghghghg

Limit the damage

THEY AIN'T DONE YET!!

THEY STILL BANGIN'!!

It is just me or did Johnny Damon take his sweet old time getting to that ball?

Edit: Okay, it's not just me. Woah. Me and DD agreeing again!

I am not always a fan of managers pulling good players for a pinch-runner late in games like NY did with Matsui in the 9th. They didn't score, and they had to go into extra innings with their number 5 batter out of the game.
