Doesn’t seem to take responsibility for his actions or have respect for those that wasted financial or draft capital on his bum rear end. Another year goes by and his window of playing QB anywhere diminishes. Doubt he ever truly hits rock bottom due to his families financial background. He will probably never have to work his rear off at a low paying job to survive and he will most likely end up doing reality shows or some garbage to stay in the limelight. A wasted talent. Good news is that there are others willing to work hard and be grateful for their opportunities to take his place.

Per the article, the CFL had a really stringent, no-tolerance policy in place for Manziel and instructed the team to cut Manziel. 

I'm not sure it was the same, though domestic violence issues seemed to be implicated in the words between the words of the article, if that makes any sense. In other words, in reading between the lines, it didn't seem like drugs were implicated, but rather, the league's agreement with Manziel about his domestic abuse issues. 

That's speculation, though. It could very well be hookers and blow, or even an alcohol relapse or something. They're not saying yet.

Interesting.  I'm assuming he was allowed to drink during the season. He came into my restaurant numerous times in Calgary and would have lunch and a couple beers. Nothing too crazy but I was surprised to see him drinking at all haha

Wow. Dude. For someone with an admitted drinking problem, that's just...further evidence of an admitted drinking problem. That's too bad.  If that's the case, he likely was allowed to drink per the agreement.

Maybe. He wasn't hiding it though. Sat and chilled and had food and a couple beers. Came in the next night with his mom and did the same. Never seemed drunk, but ya maybe he wasn't supposed to be drinking at all. 

 
I to will be interested to hear what the final nail in the coffin was for the CFL.  You would think they'd just have announced it rather than the whole cryptic message angle. But maybe it is a non-disclosure thing. Or trying to get the CFL some air time.

This is what I thought. Or that Canadians are polite and considerate even when telling you to get the heck out.  

 
The move reunited Manziel with Sherman, who also recruited Johnny Football to Texas A&M. Acquired to be Montreal's No. 1 quarterback, the 26-year-old Texan was 2-6 as a starter, completing 106-of-165 passes (64.2 per cent) for 1,290 yards with five TDs and seven interceptions.

He also ran for 215 yards on 29 carries (7.41-yard average) as Montreal (5-13) finished third in the East Division but missed the CFL playoffs.

Manziel was due a $75,000 bonus March 1 and scheduled to earn a $202,000 base salary in 2019. Manziel's departure leaves Montreal with five quarterbacks on its roster (Vernon Adams Jr., Jeff Matthews, Antonio Pipkin, Matthew Shiltz and Canadian rookie Richard Hugo).

Pipkin appeared in six games last year, completing 78-of-131 passes (59.5 per cent) for 1,120 yards with eight TDs and three interceptions.

Just for comparison, Antonio Pipkin (yes) outperformed Manziel.

 
This is interesting because we've now learned that he had a real strict contract and couldn't do XYZ or he'd be booted by the CFL.  On the radio, they were discussing drug tests, tests for alcohol, monitoring his social media....it sounds like the structure that guy needed. That he met it for a while is a good sign. I honestly didn't think he could.

Warren Moon said that he believes the violation was that he contacted an AAF team and did it on purpose because he prefers to be in the US. He went on to discuss that the XFL and AAF offer new opportunities for Manziel to play in the US that simply weren't there before. 

The AAF assigns players by region so he's a San Antonio player if they want him. Moose said they're waiting to hear from the CFL. He had not heard anything about recent news, but he inquired when he took the San Antonio job and heard great things from those he spoke to in the CFL. He said it was exactly what he wanted to hear, a maturity and responsibility.

The host (after Moose) wondered if San Antonio and Montreal didn't develop a connection then and that didn't lead to all this.

Mike Reilly was the CFL stud. He tried out for the Jaguars and things were going so well his team let him walk. (You don't let an MVP type walk in free agency) He signed with another CFL team in mid February but reportedly has an opening to join the Jags. 

Elway has had three tryouts with a CFL QB since December. Three is a high number so we can guess as to why three, if that's good or bad, etc. All I'm thinking is that Elway is definitely interested.

At this point, neither is expected to sign with NFL teams, but just the same it would have to make the CFL "on guard" about the NFL if they were to suddenly lose 3 QBs to the NFL/USA. There has only ever really been a minimal pipeline to the league; that would have been giant. My guess is the commish was hypersensitive and Manziel contacting an AAF team "had to" be squashed. 

 
Former NFL QB Johnny Manziel signed the Alliance of American Football Standard Player Agreement.

This officially allows Manziel to become an active player in the AAF. The San Antonio Commanders would typically have first dibs on the former No. 22 overall pick since Texas A&M, Manziel's alma mater, is an area school San Antonio was initially given college allegation rights to, but the Commanders notably released the ex-Browns play-caller's rights, allowing Manziel to hit standard league waivers. Whatever team he lands on will immediately become must-watch television.

This is the team that inexplicably stuck with Christian Hackenberg for an opening season losing streak characterized by horrid QB play before fonally moving on to Zach Mettenberg for merely mediocre QB play and a 1-1 record since.

Nothing to lose with Manziel, but doubtful they’ll notice much difference...

“I’m all in on this team,” said Manziel.

No, wait. He said that about the Montreal Alouettes, before getting banned from the CFL.

“It's about action,” said Manziel. “It’s about being accountable and doing what I'm (going to) say instead of looking like a jackass.”

No, wait. He said that before he was released by the Cleveland Browns. 

“I want to wreck this league,” said Manziel.

No, wait, he said that in a text message during the 2014 NFL draft.

But here’s the good part. Manziel can’t possibly wreck the Express. There is nothing to wreck. The team is 1-5. Nobody in Memphis gives a flip about the team.

Can Johnny Football become Johnny Savior?

Don’t be silly.

But he can become Johnny Maybe I’ll Go Buy A Ticket And Watch The Circus.

That sure beats the alternative.

The Alliance of American Football announced Saturday that Manziel would be coming to Memphis after the San Antonio Commanders (God bless them) relinquished his rights.

“We believe he’ll benefit from the coaching and mentorship of Mike Singletary,” said league founder Bill Polian, in a statement, possibly because a statement did not require him to try and keep a straight face.

Johnny Manziel and Mike Singletary? What could possibly go wrong?

And, yes, some of you may be wondering if it’s unseemly to be celebrating the arrival of a quarterback who has done some of the things that Manziel is alleged to have done.

I say let he who has not been suspended by the NFL for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, who has not been let go by multiple agents including Drew Rosenhaus, who has not been accused of doing $90,000 in damage to a rented Mercedes, who has not been sued for doing $40,000 of damage to a rented Los Angeles mansion, who has not been dropped by his sponsors including Nike and Panini, who has not been accused of domestic abuse by former girlfriend Colleen Crowley, who has not been released by the Browns for showing up drunk at practice and for sneaking out to Las Vegas to party while wearing a wig, I say let he who has not done all that cast the first stone.

OK, so maybe it is a little unseemly.  But do you have any idea how hopelessly dull and irrelevant the Express have been up to this point?

They lost again Saturday, 22-9 to the Salt Lake Stallions, who came into the game at 1-4. Quarterback Zach Mettenberger injured his ankle on the first snap. Which opened the door for — I can’t believe I am even typing this — the Johnny Manziel era in Memphis.

Manziel last played for the Alouttes, where he started eight games and completed 64 percent of his passes for 1,290 yards with five touchdowns and seven interceptions. In his last game with Montreal, he was was yanked at halftime for someone named Antonio Pipkin. But the TV ratings were great!

Manziel told everyone he planned to be back in Montreal for the 2019 season. Until he was banned by the CFL for “violating conditions of his agreement with the league." The CFL did not reveal what conditions Manziel violated. But Canada’s loss is Memphis’s gain.

This is a city of reclamation projects, of second chances. OK, seventh chances, in this case, but let’s not be picky here. This is where Allen Iverson made his triumphant comeback before quitting a few weeks later. This is where Mike Tyson showed up with a tattoo on his face and knocked out Cliff Etienne. This is where Roy Jones Jr. got knocked out by Glen Johnson. This is where John Daly got a sponsor’s exemption to play in the FedEx St. Jude Classic last year — then promptly withdrew after the first round.

Give us your troubled, your washed up, your wildly-colorful athletes looking to make a last stand. Manziel is still only 26. America loves a good comeback story. And — all jokes aside — it would be a nice human story if Manziel could use his time in Memphis to relaunch an NFL career.

The guy won the Heisman Trophy. He was as electrifying a college player as we have seen in a long time. Manziel’s struggles with addiction and bipolar disorder don’t excuse his behavior over the years, but there is no reason not to pull for him to find some degree of success and peace.

So welcome to Memphis, Johnny. Just stay away from Beale Street, OK? I mean, at Silky O’Sullivan's, they have actual live goats.

A friend of mine is a bartender in Memphis.  Apparently Johnny was in his bar this evening.  Another bartender asked him for his ID and he didn't have it.  He called the bartender a fagg got and tried to start a fight.  He was kicked out.  Memphis isn't going to be a good place for him.  He's going to get shot, and I'm not exaggerating.  Dude is a loser.

Memphis Express QB coach David Lee hopes Johnny Manziel gets another chance in the NFL.

The quarterbacks coach for the Jets in 2014, Lee campaigned against drafting Manziel, but his few weeks with the quarterback in the AAF changed his mind. "My short experience with him was tremendous," Lee said. "He loves football. Gosh, he loves it. And he wants to be good." It still seems unlikely Manziel ever gets another shot in the NFL, but this endorsement does not hurt.
