Official Johnny Manziel Thread (5 Viewers)

Seriously.

On my annual trips to this place I can't help myself. One time I tripped and noticed the ground was covered in white stuff.
You can find there what you're looking for.
I know, I go there looking for fun and "snow", both of those are everywhere in that town. They try to play off that white stuff as frozen water, but we know better amiright?

I like the Browns but think they need to dump Gordon and Manziel if they want to build a team. Those 2 knuckleheads will just keep tugging them in the wrong direction. Could be a constant pull or just enough times throughout a season to derail positive momentum.

Gordon is extremely talented and could be great. Not sure he wants to be great. Manziel is not worth discussing.

They aren't going to win with Pettine.

they were winning just fine with him before the injuries started adding up.

The least professional party in this Manziel saga is the Browns front office and/or coaching staff. It seems obvious to me from the time they drafted him that their method for managing him was to leak anything negative about him to the public. I'f I'm Manziel I'm not only beyond upset but I can't go to work trusting anyone in that orginzation. I mean 20 something people speaking off the record, that's gross mismanagement and if I was a Browns fan would give me more pause over the direction of this franchise than Manziel.

Personally I think it's foolish to say he's worse than Jamarcus Russell or to suggest cutting him after he's played a whopping 6 quarters. If they wanted to trade him they probalby would not get much and some of that has to do with them going out of their way to float negative story's to the media. But they would find a buyer for sure and that buyer would inherit his guaranteed contract. If they cut him he'd never pass through waivers but if he did it would be a major win for him because he'd get his fully guaranteed pay from the Browns while reaching UFA. Even if he had to take meager pay for a year or two in hopes of re-establishing his value it would be a win. I believe this is a big part of the reason they choose to manage him with negative media leaks.

Now I will say he looked like a train wreck this year and he might be terrible his entire career, but I'm not ready to say that after 6 quarters. The last time I can recall a first round draft pick having such a horrible debut was John Elway and that turned out alright, not saying he's Elways but just saying you can't give up on a player and 1.5 games-not after you used a first round pick on them.
What did we know about Johnny Manziel coming into the pros?

1) He came from a family with Money. A lot of people who come from money don't like or know how to work hard because they did not have to growing up.

2) His father acknowledged that he might have a trouble with Alcohol. Imagine how much of a problem this must be for his father to actually come out publicly and say he has a problem.

3) A lot of his success in college was due to his quickness and elusiveness which allowed him to run for yards and buy time for receivers to get open.

What happened in his rookie year?

1) Apparently he did not work very hard as he did not know the play book when he was given an opportunity to play

2) Based on all the reports of partying in the off-season and during the season, he still has a problem with alcohol.

3) His quickness and elusiveness does not help him very much in the pros, as everyone is pretty quick to play in the NFL.

You may still think he has a chance to be something in the NFL, but I think the chance is very slim. One, he does not seem to be the type of guy who will overcome the alcohol, and until that happens, I do not see anyway for him to be successful. Two, even if he somehow conquers the alcohol, his game does not translate well to the NFL. At his size, he really has to know an offense inside and out and understand his role in it to be able to have any success. I just don't think he will take the time to do this.

Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel enters rehab program

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel entered a treatment facility Wednesday, according to friend and advisor Brad Beckworth.

In a statement released to Northeast Ohio Media Group by Manziel's publicist Denise Michaels, Manziel is getting the help that he needs.

"Brad Beckworth, a friend and advisor to Manziel and his family, has confirmed that Johnny entered treatment on Wednesday,'' the statement read.

"Johnny knows there are areas in which he needs to improve in order to be a better family member, friend and teammate and he thought the off-season was the right time to take this step.''

On behalf of Johnny and his family, we're asking for privacy until he rejoins the team in Cleveland."

Manziel's partying was chronicled all season, from floating on swans, to rolling up a bill in the bar of a bathroom, which the Browns found most "disturbing,'' sources told Northeast Ohio Media Group.

Manziel was fined for oversleeping the day before the season finale and admitted he partied too hard the night before.

He said he had to "make deals with himself'' and seemed conflicted about his own inability to stop taking one step forward and two steps backwards.

More to come soon.

Might be his best decision yet. Dude has major addiction issues.

Sure he did. He just ignored the problem for many years until he finally checked himself in.
I guess he ignored the problem until talking with Suzie Kolber :)

Good thing he went to rehab, preferable to Johnny 8ball.
Knock it off.

Who the hell are you to pass judgment on anyone?

He turned down a six figure payday to host a Super Bowl party so I think the kid is sincere and no matter what you think of him his action to seek help deserves full support.

On Manziel, Browns have only themselves to blame

Posted by Mike Florio on February 2, 2015,

Setting aside for now the reality that Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel apparently suffers from a health condition for which he needs support, understanding, and assistance, the Browns have a problem for which they only have themselves to blame.

Despite Manziels high-stakes Eddie Haskell routine from a year ago, when he supposedly ensconced himself in football and shunned partying, the record already was clear: Johnny Football was a ticking time bomb.

Sure, it didnt get as much attention as it should have among a media fascinated by the possibility that Manziel would become the next Tim Tebow, driving ratings and generating clicks and selling whatever remaining newspapers and magazines there are. But the Browns were making a much larger investment in JFF. And the Browns have only themselves to blame for JFFing it all up.

While most of the blame goes to owner Jimmy Haslam guy and/or the homeless man whose draft Manziel recommendation confirmed Haslams belief that Browns fans wanted Johnny Football to become Johnny Cleveland, people like G.M. Ray Farmer have an obligation to protect the owner from himself. And if people like Farmer cant get through to an owner who was smitten by the potential upside of a guy with a colossal downside, then someone other than Farmer should be the person in position to get through to an owner who is poised to make a decision that could undermine the best interests of the team.

If no such person exists, the owner needs to sell the team to someone who doesnt need such a person in the teams employment.

The evidence of the potential for a substance-abuse problem was hiding in plain sight months before the Browns traded up from No. 26 to No. 22 to pick Manziel, courtesy of ESPN The Magazine. Manziels own father said that Johnny drinks to deal with stress. Manziels parents and his college coach required Manziel to visit with an alcohol counselor after an alcohol-related arrest. Paul Manziel also expressed concern about a temper that made the father reluctant to engage in one of the ultimate father-son activities.

I dont enjoy playing golf with him because I dont want to see that temper, Paul Manziel told Wright Thompson at the time. I honestly do not. I cringe when he wants to play golf. . . . I dont know where the anger comes from. I dont think he knows. If it comes from his drinking, or if hes mad at himself for not being a better person when he fails, when he fails God and his mom and me. If it makes him angry that hes got demons in him. You can only speculate because you cant go in there.

The Browns needed to go in there. Or they shouldnt have allowed Manziel to come into their organization. The fathers words alone should have been enough to prompt Farmer to commission a full-scale, no-stone-unturned effort to get to the bottom of the Johnny Manziel anger rabbit hole. And the Browns should have removed his name from the draft board absent a full and complete explanation that made it clear to the Browns that Manziels demons would not destroy his NFL career before it even started.

The Browns failed. And theyll continue to fail unless Haslam finds the right people to protect Haslam from himself.

Seems like poor timing and an unneeded shot at the Browns here. Especially seems weird since Johnny getting treatment is nothing but a good thing for the Browns at this point.

Does seem like a pot shot and the timing is poor, but the points are still valid. I hope things work out for all parties (ummm phrasing?) involved, but it's kind of a huge "I told you so" at this point.

Even as a Bengals fan I have to agree. Needless timing by PFT on this one.

I am not sure there is ever good timing for an article/commentary like this. Perhaps it would have been better if PFT had waited until he completed rehab or ran the piece at some later date, but it would still have the same tone which has not set well with some people.

I think part of the problem is that Manziel was so "in your face" about his substance abuse issues. It is not a situation like Cris Carter, that no one outside of the team were aware of what was going on. When a person has that high a public profile for partying, this type of reaction can probably be expected.

In the AFL...and he was never even the best QB in that league (Lamonica was better 67-69 than Namath).

He's in the HOF because he beat an over the hill Unitas in a Super Bowl game in which he didn't even throw a TD.

I don't mind that PFT ran the article, but Florio needs to give up his as a writer. Holy #### this guy makes George Lucas look like William Shakespeare. The writing is so bad it is literally painful to read.

I have bagged on this kid, and his ardent supporters, for some time. This showing of sound judgment and maturity will have me silent for some time. Good for him. I wish him well in addressing his challenges.

Actually he beat Earl Morrall. JohnnyU came into the game late in the 3rd qtr. I agree however that SB 3 made Joe Namath. Later in the 70s Bert Jones proved to be a better QB than Joe Namath was anytime in his career.

They aren't going to win with Pettine.
Pettine is a winning football coach. I hope this team figures it out before he gets run.

To be fair, it wasn't just Haslam and a homeless man that wanted to draft Johnny Football. According to Jay Glazier, the Vikings wanted to trade up with the Eagles to take Manziel. The Browns just came up with a sweeter offer.
This makes me want to punch a wall that I didnt somehow get into a NFL front office. How in the hell can multiple NFL front offices not see this kid for the untalented ##### that he is?

It also makes the Vikings incredibly lucky as they landed the best QB in the class.
