And as I said in Joe's now disappeared Jane Fonda thread (where did it go?) it doesn't really mean much of anything as we don't know why people are following anyone...do all of Trump's 87.2M think of him as "Father Trump" like many in the Trump HQs Thread do? (I hope not as I follow him and certainly don't consider him a father figure).
Like a lot of people on this forum, I've sort of had a front row seat to Olbermann's career. As others have mentioned, he and Dan Patrick were the GOATs of ESPN. Of course, that was a different era, before you could go on the internet and pull up highlights of whatever game you wanted whenever you wanted. SC was an institution was in college, but highlight shows are basically irrelevant now.

Of course I'm also a walking stereotype of Generation X that way.
My friends loved it. You aren't alone. I felt like the lone dissenter. I didn't hate it all. But it almost even seemed like they were mocking guys that were succeeding. Like when a string of highlights made a basketball player look unstoppable, a phrase like "en fuego" would break out and send those two into titters of mock derision. And there wasn't a real delineated tension between their deconstruction of sports highlights as show and that of sport itself. I remember the scorn in their voices and completely not digging it. And I'd played the sports at remarkably high levels for a college kid who wasn't a Division I athlete, so I had no illusions about the athletes themselves. It was...just an interesting shift in tone in coverage, that's all. Probably to be expected in the modern world of doubt. And it wasn't always P.C. No, it tread upon the lines of racialism (not racism, I'm speaking of different things) often, that kind of commentary and its lineage.I read this and I was like "Yeah, I remember that too -- that was great!"
You raise a really good point though. It's probably one thing to talk about sports using pitch-black irony, but something else entirely to approach government the same way.
Dam..Keith has aged in dogs years. Was shocked to read he is only 61 as he looks 80. Looking like Andy Rooney and acting like a grumpy old geezer.
I have to admit I opened this in expectation of a full-throated defense of what Olbermann was saying. I am pleasantly surprised. There really is no good defense or reason for saying this other than it is the knee-jerk reaction of a seventh grader who hasn't gotten his way with the sporting equipment that the school provides. Personally, I always thought Olbermann was like this and I think blinders were on when it came to tone. Same reason I always hated O'Reilly. Rude to guests, no civility toward opponents, incorrigible, ostentatiously (un)learned. A miasma of things that tended to blind me to their particular points on a given day.
Many thanks in return. I was busting it out and had to double check to see if I'd gotten it right. A little more along exhalation lines than I thought, but still good to go about an impenetrable fog, or something which corrupts, in this case, the corrupted fog around the atmospherics that prevents the recipient of a point from focusing on its correctness rather than the manner in which it is doled out.

The reactions to the Supreme Court’s ruling in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen have been strong and in some cases over the top, but former sportscaster and former cable news personality Keith Olbermann took it to the next level when he called for both dissolving the court and ignoring it at the state level.
In a 6 – 3 decision the court struck down a New York state law on concealed carry, prompting strong reactions from both Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) and President Joe Biden, as well as other officials.
But where the governor vowed to take her state’s fight into legal and legislative directions, Olbermann advised a more anarchic approach: just don’t listen.
“It has become necessary to dissolve the Supreme Court of the United States,” the former lots of things Olbermann said. “The first step is for a state the ‘court’ has now forced guns upon, to ignore this ruling.”
The added “Why and how do think you can enforce your rulings?” was a nice touch, totally ignoring the structure of government and the Constitution which both grant the court the authority to make such rulings and the executive branch of the federal government the power to enforce them.

I disagree. I actually think Olbermann is legitimately a stupid person who happens to have a pretty good sense of humor. He parlayed a successful run on SC to his journalism gig, which flamed out because, as I mentioned, he's too stupid to practice journalism successfully.
