There goes Lefors to Seattle. That basically leaves Orlovsky and McPherson as the only real viable prospects. Get trading detroit!!!!!!!!!

I agree. Look for Philly to make some trades as they have a lot of picks left and not that many spots on their roster...

I can't undertand why they don't move up and draft McPherson in this round. WE should be able to offer a pick next year like a 4th or 5th, which is considered to be a deeper draft, to a team that has too many picks.
 
As a non-Detroit fan, I would be very interested in attending their August practices. I believe Mike Williams is to slow and lumbers through his routes. He lacks fluid hips and quickness out of his breaks. I could very well be wrong.But I would love to see Charles Rogers, Roy Williams and Mike Williams going through route running drills just to see if I am wrong or not.

Do we know what they gave up yet? I like the pick, but would have liked McPherson a whole lot more. For a team in love with speed, I can't really understand why they didn't take a chance with him.

I told ya that this was in the loop. He's a good QB prospect, but McPherson would have been sexier. Orlovsky could prove to be a good pick down the road as he was high on lists earlier in the year.

He's just scared that Detroit could be in the mix with their offense this year.

FYI - I have been dishing out 'hate' on Mike Williams for weeks and praying the Vikings would take Williamson over Williams. But all my responses regarding Williams in the Detroit threads have been positive (for the most part outside of the 'Pat Williams' comments yesterday); I could be wrong about Mike. Either way, I was just saying the Detroit preseason camp should be oustanding for Detroit fans.

I haven't said it enough. But come on, what about my Pat Williams being able to cover Mike Williams post? No dap for that? I guess I am over-valueing sarcastic posts.Good luck with Mike, I wish nothing but the best for the kid as he seems like a good character guy.

 
It's official, we have pick 186 and now 206 from NE now. Nice move M & M! I'd say FS is atop the list....who's available? I hope they don't take Shazor.....i can't believe how high a lot of homers had him going. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: New Orleans just took McPherson!!

 
Does anyone know what pick, I assume 2006 draft pick, Detroit gave up for New England's 5th, 6th round choices( is a 7th also included)?

Next year's 4th for this years 5th and 6th....so we have two left in the 6th round (6.10 and 6.32)

Little love from a Viking fan...

In 1998, I was completely crushed when the Vikings took Randy Moss. I thought we were on the verge of a championship, we just needed some defensive help. When Green rushed up to the podium to select Moss, I was in agony. What was he thinking? We already had Jake Reed and Cris Carter; two wide recievers at the top of their game bringing in 1,000 yard seasons year after year.

It really worked out well for Minnesota, so there should be hope in Detroit. Minnesota was a little different as we only need Moss to run the '9' in 1998 and we had very veteran club already (cunningham, johnson, the offensive line and both wide receivers).

How many championships did Moss win for the Vikings? Give me a break. As great that this pick might help your offense out, I would be more concerned why management is not addressing defense deficiencies. As great as Minny's offense was, our crappy D always caught up to us in the end. All of the talk at the beginning of this thead is how much you guys need D help. Then as soon as MW is drafted it was a great pick and everyone else is just jealous.... :rolleyes: I am glad the Lions are morons and overload at one position. You guys can win one battle and lose the war.... I really wonder if this just says that management feels Rogers will not be able to fully recover. :confused:

that'd be my guess at this point....as I said, he's a fine pick in the 6th, but I couldn't believe some of the homers who had him as high as the 2nd round.
 
I'd like to see Shazor or Antaj Hawthorne available when the Lions pick in the 6th. I think either would be a great value there. Safeties don't need to be burners, and DTs don't need to be brain surgeons.

Shazor would be insane value there, he's already dropping way too far IMO.

built like a prototype dropback NFL QB (6'5" 235) - great arm - great accuracy - TOUGH fiery competitor - needs to work on decision making- will force throws - and making reads - has an upside near any QB in the draft, but needs a couple of years to learn.

Goddard has good speed, impressive closing ability and gets off the line as quick as anybody. Goddard is a hard worker with tremendous pass rush skills that will get him noticed on draft day. Well I don't much care for that pick....esp. with the safety from Ball st. still there (who goes to Dallas two picks later :( )

 
Here's the analysis on Bill Swancutt DE Oregon St. 6-4, 264ANALYSISSwancutt is a tireless worker on the field, compensating for a lack of ideal size and average quickness with excellent open field balance and above-average quickness in the short area. He fires out low off the snap and has an array of pass-rush moves to get to the quarterback, but does rely on his spin move too often. He runs with a medium-to-short stride and shows very good change-of-direction agility. Swancutt is quick to read and react to plays as they develop. He is best coming off the edge, as he lacks the bulk to hold ground when working through traffic. He does a very good job of flattening and running down the line of scrimmage while he chases. Swancutt struggles when he gets too high in his stance, as the larger blockers can lock on and prevent him from redirecting. He can hold some ground at the point of attack, but struggles to defeat double teams. Swancutt does show good hand usage to ward off low blocks and has the lateral agility to be an effective tackler on exterior plays. Swancutt is an adequate tackler with some impact behind his hits, relying more on positioning to wrap and secure. He is effective making arm tackles and rarely can a runner break wide with Swancutt hovering on the edge. He looks quicker than his timed speed when in pursuit and his motor never shuts off. Swancutt moves quick off the line to gain leverage, getting his hands up quickly on the blocker to separate. His low pad level and arm extension lets Swancutt do a very good job of keeping blockers from attacking his feet. He is very instinctive, moving well laterally to stretch the play outside and can find the ball working through trash. Swancutt is a decent bull rusher with enough power to push the pocket. Swancutt shows the body control to adjust to the play at full speed. His high motor is evident, as he consistently pursues the ball across the field. While he is an effective right end, his lack of size may be better suited for the open end position, where he can utilize his quickness off the ball to gain a free lane to the quarterback. Swancutt is a quick reader who has the lateral agility to get transfer and has the balance and foot speed to pursue through trash. He is more fluid than sudden as an athlete and while he may be just a little step lacking in explosion, he doesn't stay blocked and routinely gets schemed by his opponents. Swancutt has a full reperetoire as a pass rusher and never quits in his pursuit. Toss out the computer numbers that the football gods like, such as size, speed and strength. This kid is a classic overachiever, but definitely a player that needs to be accounted for on the field. He may not be drafted very high, but come back in three years and judge for yourself then. I really like this pick and think that he could be a real sleeper as he didn't run well, but he's a pass rusher who could help us on third down.

 
The selection of Goodard from West VA. really puzzles me. With both Butler and Beriault there at Free Safety which is a need for depth, I don't understand why the Lions didn't jump on one of them...

Agreed. Yes, he didn't run quite as fast as you'd like a safety to run, but the guy's a player. I don't get it. At a bare minimum, he's a very good special teams player.
