I don't care who wins but smashville winning the cup in smashville would have been fun.  plus Eddie O would have been really happy.

game 7 please

It was surprising to me that Rinne was pulled after the first period.  Sure the Preds were down 3-0 but there was still 40 minutes left to play.  Seemed to me that was a little early for Laviolette to throw in the towel.

I don't know that this is going to go seven games at this point. Despite the scores of the games, IMO Nashville played their best two games in games 1 and 2 and have looked less effective since, while Pittsburgh has been trending upward. Game 4 and particularly last night (obviously) were their best two of the series IMO. I'd bet that the Pens come out absolutely flying again on Sunday, and if Rinne lets in an early goal or two it might be over. I won't be at all surprised in Nashville holds serve at home in game 6, but if I were to place a bet, it would be on the Pens to wrap it up Sunday. If Ellis is out, that's even more for the Preds to overcome, and it might be the final nail.

Eh if your guy is getting shelled that badly, and you want him to have any chance of having his head on straight in Game 6, I think you have to pull him there.

Agreed. Plus, the rest of the team clearly needed a shake-up at that point. It didn't work, but I've got no issue with pulling him there.

Maybe but the Predators had an impressive comeback in game 1 on the road.  If the Predators score a two goals in Period 2, who do you want in net in a one goal game:  Pekka Rinne or Juuse Saros?    I would have had Rinne start period 2 and yank him if the Pens scored the next goal.

By yanking Rinne you pretty much told your team that your conceding the game with 40 minutes remaining.

Just my $0.02...

My thought as well.

And then we saw the Pens score 3 more...the good of that is it showed it was an all around crapfest for Nashville and obviously no controversy in net (especially at home).

Hard to point to anyone who played well last night.

More worried about Ellis's injury now...and if they try suspending Sissons as some sites say could happen...that's BS

Agreed.  In retrospect it was the right decision to pull Rinne because of the way the rest of the game unfolded but at the time I was surprised by it.

Malkin and Guentzel most likely to hoist the Smythe; Sid likely to hoist the cup and pass it off.

All have played and lived large these playoffs.

Can we get a Game Seven?

remember game 2?  4-1?   or Game 5 of Sens/Pens?  7-0?

This ain't over until Blutarski SAYS it's over.

These are 2 deserving teams, both capable of dominating, and have shown it.

I wonder if this is setting up like 2009? Wings pounded Pens in game 5, looked unbeatable at home, looked like Pens would have trouble getting it back to Detroit and then...

No doubt. The Pens came out buzzing last night. That game was over in the first minute. If the Pens want it, they have it. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see it.

I was thinking the exact same thing last night.  I was trying to explain the similarities to my wife but she wasn't having any of it.  She just kept saying that Nashville is just a Cinderella team

You guys giving up on Nashville already?  This is the same team that outplayed the Pens for about 75% of the series up until last night.  Ridonculous.

You're watching and nervous. I'd love to be proven wrong, but won't.
I dunno. This is just how hockey works.  I think there was some stat posted last night that the team that wins in a blowout generally loses the next game.  I forget what the exact stat was.  As Dr. D said, this series seems to be playing out how the 09 Pens/Wings series did.  Anything can happen in Game 7.  But I hope you're right and the Pens are raising the Cup on Sunday.  #### game 7.

worst finals in recent memory.
There have been a mere 2 early lead changes (visiting team has struck first blood and then lost)once each... in 5 games thus far.

After the first 2 games, the 3rd period has been largely meaningless.

I won't ever give up.

just disappointed.

Took the kids to the watch party at Bridgestone.  When we first moved here in 98 (same time the team came), would have been crazy to think they would sell out the place for a watch party.   We're lucky for years there to get that many people on a Saturday.

It was fun and pretty loud until that first goal.  Loudest ovations were the catfish in Pitt...and a rather large one here too.  They did the whole normal pregame show in the ice and hype music...was cool.  And at $15 that went to the Predators Foundation...that was cool for a family.

Also...parking and downtown is pretty nuts with so much going on.  People leaving work, CMA fest starting, plus the hockey activities...downtown was nuts and packed.  Nashville making a lot of money in all of this.

I think teams who lost by 6 or more are 3-0 in the next game in these playoffs.
I heard this stat last night too... so the Pens should have let them score a meaningless goal to avoid the guaranteed loss in game 6... dummies.

I'm buying the theory (maybe because I want it to be true) that the Pens are trending up in the series at thus point... 9-2 at home would still be an excellent home record for the Preds :P   Maybe the 2 day rest helped the Pens more?  Maybe the 2 days between games will continue to help the Pens.

But I wouldn't be surprised with any outcome in this series given that both teams have doninated for stretches of time.

:towelwave:

A couple of people have tried comparing it to 2011, simply because of the holding serve on home ice so far, and how lopsided the games have been. But this series hasn't been a strict carbon copy of that one. The Bruins dump-trucked the Canucks in all three games in Boston, but Games 1-2-5 all were one-goal games with the Canucks winning it in the third (final minute of Game 1) or OT (12 seconds in, Game 2).

Agreed, 2009 could be a much better comparison.

Question is, does this become the first series since Devils-Ducks in 2003 when home team wins all seven?
