**** OFFICIAL **** LOST - The TV Series (2 Viewers)

Agreed, the blender and trashcan are more modern as well.I have thought the shelter had existed since the 60's but Desmond only came to inhabit it within the last few years or so and brought some modern conveniences or... he continues to have a connection with the outside world where he can get these items but chooses to remain on the island.

I don't believe that Desmond is the same guy that we saw in the beginning, working out,Steroids etc... I believe he looked a little "dirty"( messy wet hair, dirty fingernails) compared to that guy.
Seriously?It's the same guy.
The guy working out in the beginning was blond. Its not Desmond.

I think the others are there to guard the shelter and its current inhabitant. They bring in supplies, ect.I also think that they have targeted Walt to maybe replace Desmond (if that is him). Maybe both have the shining-like powers that need to be quarentined.

 I love it....

Anyone want to try to throw out a theory tieing together Walt, the Others, the security system/monster and the Hatch? All have been the primary focus so far but I am stuggling to dream up a plausible link.ETA: Ethan/Rosseau/Claire's baby were other major plot movers...

problem is, why do they need the rest of the survivors? Why is it their destiny to be there?

A few random points.

1) The magnet bringing people to the island. I can see this as a possibility as it could possibly explain how Rousseau's boat crashed, the drug smuggling plane and flight 815 being on the island. But, if everything is brought to the island by the magnet, how does that theory explain the Black Rock being there, obviously from 100+ years ago. Even with cannons and rivets made from metal, I don't know if it would be strong enough to draw a large wooden ship to the island. If the magnet were that strong, it would have also sucked the gun and flashlight away from whoever was holding it and stuck it to the wall.

I'm leaning more towards it's use as a power source.

Is the exercise bike somehow "plugged in" to be some form of power source?

2) Did it look like there was some form of explosion/fire that occured around the magnet? To me it looked like part of the wall was gone and other parts looked charred.

3) The bright light shining up. While very basic, I simply thought it was a product of the bright light that was shone on Jack as he entered into the "tunnel." Is it possible that that light, reflected off various mirrors could grow in strength and bounce off the mirror at the bottom of the hatch and shine up?

4) The security system. This may have been addressed in the Season 1 thread, but I really don't feel like poring over the last pages in hopes of finding a small tidbit. Was it only me who heard a distinct clanking, like an anchor being brought up as Locke was being dragged into the hole? With all the theories of nanobots and "creatures" I'm growing more and more convinced that it's something mechanical.

Wow...I came here to say "what a great start to the season" and there's already 11 pages of posts about the episode.Nothing to add, but I would like to see the clip from the oceanic site that was mentioned. Just getting a script.

Look at THIS PICTURE.  That is a MODERN washer and dryer set.
 edit: I know those washer and dryers were designed to have a retro look, but those are the brand new models that you can find in your local Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.

Maybe it's not a good idea to #### with the Germans, but I thought this was funny. What its supposed to say:

Screencap request (from America)Please excuse the poor grammar. I am using Altavista's Babelfish to translate this. You are very good at posting screencaps. Can you get a picture of Desmond's shirt when he was in the stadium. There is speculation the logo is important. Thank you very much. Point to the shirt,Brodie

:hot: This is driving me nuts. I am apparently a big moron and cannot find the "bar code". Can someone post some spoilers? Do the white out thing.

Is there a chance that Desmond was on the flight 815 with the rest of them. When it crashed he stumbled upon the bunker. Using a different entrance. He maybe went there willing or maybe was forced in. Once he was there not by himself. Remember there was bunk beds. He was injected with some virus and needs to take meds everyday to keep himself alive. This might not make any since at all but I wanted to throw out my theory as well. Keep in mind it's the only episode I have seen.

The sond that Desmond put on:Title - Make Your Own Kind Of Music Artist - Cass Elliot (Mamas & Papas) Make Your Own Kind Of Music Mama Cass Elliot (Mann/Weil) Nobody can tell ya There's only one song worth singing They may try and sell ya Cause it hangs them up To see someone like you You gotta make your own kind of music Sing your own special song Make your own kind music Even if nobody else sings along It can't be nowhere The loneliest kind of lonely It may be Just to do your thing is the hardest things to do You gotta make your own kind of music Sing your own special song Make your own kind music Even if nobody else sings along And if you will not take my hand Then I must be going, I'll understand You gotta make your own kind of music Sing your own special song Make your own kind music Even if nobody else sings along You gotta make your own kind of music Sing your own special song Make your own kind music Even if nobody else sings along You gotta make your own kind of music Sing your own special song Make your own kind music Even if nobody else sings along No no no no Even if nobody else sings along If nobody else sings along

Not totally out of the question since we're all assuming that the back of the plane has been off living somewhere else on the island all this time, too.And maybe Jack ran into him before/on the plane, hence the "You again" thing, as in he keeps running into this guy, not just one time in the stadium.

During the "scenes for next week" for me that was actually just more shots from the first episode, the overvoice said something about "next week -- find out what happens to everyone on the island." or some such sweeping generalization. After it happened, my wife and I looked at each other confused -- it sounded like next week could have been the grand finale.

I know it won't be, but I thought it was kind of a strange remark to make after the first episode of the season.
This was the "scenes for next week" that I saw as well. If I remember correctly from last year, and from what it sounds like at the start of this thread, others in different locations (Canada?) get entirely different "scenes for next week".

there was definitely light coming in through shades. running water to do his dishes and shower, a washing machine, what seemed to be some sort of fresh fruit for his shake.

doesn't make sense.
I noticed that some of the things down there seemed to be VERY modern.
Rewatching the beginning, and I disagreeComputer system is ancient. 70's to 80's

Records, with 70's era looking sound equipment.

Lava Lamp

Exercise Bike has no digital/computerized components.

Washer/Dryer and Blender could have been any era. No dishwasher.

To me, it had a 70's feel to the decor. But I doubt

And I don't think it was fresh fruit. Marachino Cherries and canned peaches would be my guess

Oh, and as for the light, it has to be artificial. You clearly see the light shining throught the "window" when the dynamite goes off. Which happens in the middle of the night.

His suit logo is an Octagon, or actually several 1 inside the other very reminiscent of the Pentagon. But it is very blurry, and barely visible being black on black.

Overall, strong first ep. Immediately flagged the 'See you in the next Life' line, and remembered the unknown guy had long hair, so it wasn't a surprise it me. I think it is the same guy. How, however,

And we still don't know how long ago this was. Jack was made to look much younger, and there is an unknown timeline of him meeting Sara(Now seen), falling in love, marrying her (Flashback seen), splitting up ("Are you married? No, not anymore"). Could be as much as 10 years, but unknown at this time.

Overall, it still keeps my vote as best show presently on TV
Absolutely wrong. The washer and dryer are the Whirlpool Duet ones or the Sears knockoffs (made by Whirlpool). Someone else noticed that as well. I just bought a pair for my house as my old washer died and I said to my wife that this guy got to the island after Rousseau's crew because I recognized the washer/dryer as being new within the past couple years. After we saw it was Desmond and know that Jack saved that girl within the past few years, not 16+ years ago, I knew he was newer to the island than Rousseau.Since I am only on page 9 of 14, my take is that he is part of a science experiment studying the effects of some bad virus or whatever. Remember that Rousseau said her crew went bad and told Sayid to watch the folks at the beach. I think someone found out about the bad effects of something on the island and they are watching it and sending out the number signal to bring more people to the island. Desmond may just now be on the rotation of watchers. Again the quarantine sign was on the inside of the hatch which only opens from the inside thus the bad area is the jungle on top of the hatch. The hatch area may have other exits.

Anyway, great ####### show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:lmao: Are you kidding me? You can barely see them.
Yeah but they show them all the time on Extreme Makeover: Underground Bunker Edition.
Damn, I reply to page 8/9 and the discussion is on the washer/dryer. The washer/dryer in the pciture and on the show are my washer/dryer (mine are white, not black/dark gray, but there are different color options).Whether or not that is a mistake, it is 100% Whirlpool washer/dryer that is new within the past couple years.

And raises the question, how do you get a modern washer and dryer to a random island in the middle of nowhere? Where is the second entrance it was brought in through? Who brought it in?

And raises the question, how do you get a modern washer and dryer to a random island in the middle of nowhere? Where is the second entrance it was brought in through? Who brought it in?
Who's saying it's uncharted?
Obviously not me.

I didn't see season 1 but I did catch a little of the season finale and saw this episode with friends. We were supposed to watch Indians White Sox but I guess not.

Anyway, here is my theory. Obviously since I haven't kept up with this thing I'm not that confident in it and its probably been thought of before but highlight below to read what I think is going on.

There was never a plane crash. They have been on the island in quarantine the entire time. Some/most/all of these people's pre-island lives and even chunks of their lives on the island are nothing more than hallucinations. That is why you see people in suits and boys appear and vanish. That is why a guy can hit the lottery and keep seeing the same numbers over and over. Its all in their heads. Probably not everyone on the island is real at all. They are being quarantined and the security system is there to monitor them.

The problem with Rousseau's is that she said they heard the numbers and that is why they came to the island. I can't remember if she said there was a storm or shallow reef, but she probably would have said something if they felt like they were tractor beamed (by a magnet) into the island.

The problem with Rousseau's is that she said they heard the numbers and that is why they came to the island. I can't remember if she said there was a storm or shallow reef, but she probably would have said something if they felt like they were tractor beamed (by a magnet) into the island.
A very strong magnet is going to screw up compasses....could be the Black Rock crew thought they were headed in a different direction.

:bs: Watch the first season and report back.
