With Brown on IR and L. Booker yet to play, does Cobbs have any value, long or short term? They're doing something right in Miami running the ball, and I'm thinking about rostering this guy just in case. What do Miami folks know about this guy?

I think he played for New England in preseason a year or two ago and was their leading rusher in preseason.

He was great in preseason last year busting some monster runs. I see him akin to MBIII, an angry running very much going out to hit the D in the mouth. As a Pat's homer, I disagreed with the decision to trade him especially as we all knew Dillon was done, but in Bellichek we trust.

I think he can be a beast but remains to be seen if CC and MIA give him the ball

It looked to me like Ricky just got stepped on, and will probably be OK, maybe the Dolphins didn't want to overwork him first day back? Chatman's injury looked worse.

Any updates on this injury, who is going to play next week? Will Cobbs, or Booker get a shot?

All this Miami RB talk and little mention of him really makes me wonder about Booker's prospects in the NFL

Would love some updates on this out of Miami today. The next two weeks look decent for the starting Miami RB...not so much weeks 15 and 16.

http://www.miamiherald.com/616/story/322083.htmlPITTSBURGH -- It was ugly and sloppy and dirty and unpredictably bad, an imperfect mess that only added more depression to this perfectly imperfect season.

And that only describes the Dolphins' offense Monday.

In a game that could soon go down as the most symbolic loss of this memorably disastrous year, Miami fell to the Steelers 3-0 in a prime-time mudfest that didn't fade into failure until Pittsburgh booted a game-winning field goal with 17 seconds remaining.

The Dolphins have now lost six of their 11 games this season by a margin of three points or less. The record, however, will only show this: 0-11.

''The conditions were tough,'' said rookie John Beck, who was sacked four times and completed 14 of 23 passes for 132 yards ``As a football player, you know there are games that are going to come up like that. But I felt like our guys gave it all they had.

``It was a tough night. We gave all our effort.''

BIG HOMECOMING

Even Miami linebacker Joey Porter's strong performance in his homecoming at Heinz Field -- which featured an interception on the opening drive of the game -- will be remembered only as a rare bright spot in a game marred by sloppy play and sloppier conditions.

Instead, one of the most defining and depressing plays of this game occurred in the second quarter, when running back Ricky Williams' highly anticipated return to the NFL came to a rapid end as he turned over a fumble and was injured on the same play.

Adding more symbolism to that snap, the team also committed two holding penalties -- one against rookie center Samson Satele and another against tackle L.J. Shelton -- both of which were declined by Pittsburgh because of the turnover.

Williams would return for one more carry (his sixth of the night), but his injured pectoral muscle caused him too much pain, causing him to retreat to the locker room. Running back Jesse Chatman -- already hampered by a sprained ankle -- also sustained a neck injury in the second half and missed the rest of the game.

As a result of the ailing running backs, combined with the nasty conditions, the Dolphins were able to generate just 49 yards of rushing for a total of 159 yards of offense.

It didn't help the Dolphins never took advantage of two potential field-goal opportunities, opting not to kick from 48 yards or 42 yards.

Jay Feely's longest field goal this season was 48 yards, but coach Cam Cameron clearly wasn't confident given the sloppy field conditions.

Feely did lobby on the sideline to kick the shorter of the attempts, but he also said after the game that the conditions were certainly difficult to kick in.

''You'd sink in five or six inches when you'd run in certain spots,'' Feely said.

TOUGH GAME

Although Pittsburgh wasn't able to finish any scoring drives until kicker Jeff Reed booted the winning field goal (Reed missed an attempt from 44 yards in the third quarter), they were more efficient on offense.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger completed 18 of 21 passes for 165 yards, and running back Willie Parker had 81 rushing yards on 24 carries.

Still, the Dolphins' defense wasn't the problem. The unit produced five sacks, and even stopped the Steelers for three consecutive downs on a fourth-quarter series from the 6-yard line.

Instead, the Dolphins could never generate enough offense to get into great field position and take advantage of the 59-minute shutout from its defense.

And when the unit did get its closest, it wasn't close enough to make Cameron give Feely an opportunity to kick.

In a near-shutout, the defense at least gained some confidence as the team prepares for what appears to be its most winnable remaining game, against the Jets on Sunday.

Of course, even the slightest bright spot would be hard for anyone to gloat about Monday as the team proved unable again to close out a close game

thanks for the update, unfortunately it doesn't really give any indication how badlyhurt those guys are.

With Chatman and Wiliams hurt, who will get the rock this week? Booker was not active but was practicing with the 1st team this past week. Lets here from the homers. Lots of teams are desparate for any possible gems in the rough. This years Samkon Gado.

The Palm Beach Post reports that Ricky Williams is out for the year.

This team just cannot catch a break.

After just six carries, Ricky Williams' season is over.

The Dolphins running back suffered a torn chest muscle in Monday night's 3-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field, a source told The Palm Beach Post this afternoon. Williams will require about four months to fully recover.

The injury occurred in the second quarter of Williams' first game after being suspended 18 months for repeated violations of the NFL substance-abuse policy. He underwent four months of rehabilitative therapy this summer at Boston facility, and the league reinstated him last week.

As Williams lay facedown on the sloppy turf after fumbling, Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons stepped on his right shoulder blade, apparently causing the injury. "It's just sad," said Williams' agent, Leigh Steinberg. "As hard as he's worked. He worked so hard physically to get back into shape and in therapy. He worked so hard for that moment and to have it end this way is sad." Steinberg said he wasn't worried the setback could cause Williams to relapse. "Life is a series of crossroads," Steinberg said. "On the positive side, he has been readmitted to the NFL. The Dolphins were clear that they want him to rehab there, that he's part of the team again. "So he's taken that next step. He's back in the NFL and that's a positive. Unfortunately, injuries are part of the game and his return was in the most extreme conditions." The Dolphins were not available for comment this afternoon.

Now the question comes down to Chatman or Cobbs...

I'd say that IF Chatman can go, it's definatly his job.. Problem is that he suffered a neck injury and sometimes those can be tough to play through. One wrong hit and it's reinjured.

Now that Ricky is out for the year (torn pec muscle) Rotoworld.....I am interested in this topic as well.

I took a flyer on Cobb instead of Booker, since Booker was inactive last week. They play the Jets next week, so we could have a Kolby Smith like performance this week if it is not a RBBC.

I don't know who will start this week and I really am not interested in owning them. One thing is crystal clear now and beyond dispute: all that preseason talk about how Brown was no good and Chatman, Booker, or Ricky Williams (take your pick) could all do better was a load of baloney. None of these guys can do what Ronnie Brown can do.

All i could find was this:
RBs Jesse Chatman and Patrick Cobbs are expected to carry the load, though Chatman sustained a neck injury in Monday's game and his status for Week Thirteen is uncertain.
And why the heck did they merge this? I thought that someone being OUT FOR THE SEASON was good enough news to start a new thread. I'm shocked. :kicksrock:

Does anyone think that him being stepped on while already down think it appeared deliberate? I haven't re-watched it, but I seem to recall thinking that after it happened...

Same thing came to my mind.... it looked like he stepped out of his way to do it by the angle i saw...

Yes and welcome to tackle football...
Just because you play "tackle football" doesnt me its ethical to end someones season. :lmao:
LinkDoesn't look intentional. He was following the play, saw a loose ball, turned and went for it.

Total BS.Timmons was jumping a pile of downed players as he got into position to dive for the fumbled ball. He happened to land on Williams as he came down. Totally inadvertent. If anyone really thinks he was trying to cleat Williams instead of being focused on the fumble and just happening to catch him in the act of recovering it, you are truly a moron.

Heh, looks like Timmons kicked Ricky instead of pushing him to be first to get the ball. Definitely a cheap shot IMO.

Nice, classy title by the NFL network:

"Can't-Miss Play: Ricky Williams gets stomped"

Then again when the NFL slaps players on the wrist and wrings their hands about excessive celebrated yet promotes it every chance it can't get it shouldn't be surprising I guess.

Ricky the victim of more bad grass, I guess.

Here's a sample fo this week's Dynasty Watch (linked to last week's version for now), which should be up by Thursday.
Patrick Cobbs

Current Situation

Patrick Cobbs led the country in rushing and scoring in 2003 for North Texas and was the feature back for the Mean Green for three seasons before getting signed by the Patriots after the 2006 NFL Draft. Cobbs bounced from the Pats to the Steelers and then the Dolphins until getting put on the active roster in November of 2006, where he has remained ever since.

Spotlight ETA

Cobbs played some in the quagmire that was otherwise known as Heinz Field on Monday Night Football – mostly because he was the only healthy RB left that was active for the Dolphins. Ricky Williams is now done for the year and if Jesse Chatman is also sidelined with an injury, Cobbs could be the next RB to come out of nowhere and shine - which this year seems more possible than ever.
More will be available on Thursday.

reelax.. i think it just means you should watch it...not that they were necessarily promoting that.

I know and I'm sure they didn't realize that he'd be out for the year when they put that in.LOL-QG
