*** Official Michael Cohen Testifies Before Congress Thread *** (1 Viewer)

Cohen alleges Trump was lying about the bone spur diagnosis that kept him out of Vietnam. Cohen says Trump told him, “You think I’m stupid, I wasn’t going to Vietnam.”

Cohen just now: “I find it Ironic, President Trump, that you are in Vietnam right now.

Jim Jordan is completely unhinged. Spouting conspiracy theories that Cohen is somehow part of a Clinton deep-state plot is not a good look for an elected official.  History will not be kind to this guy.
The Republicans are going to badly miss Gowdy today. This requires an expert scalpel at questioning. Jordan is ranking minority member is a bad move up front.

Would be so much better if they put people behind him who had never read his statement and were reacting honestly in real time instead of turning their heads and moving their eyes at random intervals

You guys seriously think this testimony, which is a bunch of hearsay, and other news we already knew, is a huge moment in the history of the US?  This will be off the front page in 3 days unless he has something else that he hasn't said yet.

So far the only possibility I see is intense anger from the black community over his words about black people.  If that outrage doesn't happen, I don't see anything else here that is new, and significant.

You think Cohen strategically agreed to the open hearing with Oversight for that very reason?
No, not really. The Intel committees are all about Russia so their stuff has to be behind closed doors. I could be wrong but Oversight is the only one that can deal with all the 'other stuff' - emoluments, foundation, taxes, Trump Org etc. etc.

Hearsay with documents.

I just gave you an historical fact. What happens with it, I don't know. But you can know it's already with federal prosecutors in 2-3 offices.

not really following but has there been anything really big/important actually said?
Cohen related statements from Trump about black people that were pretty disgusting.  I didn't see anything else I hadn't already heard about.  He knew of no evidence of Trump collusion with Russia.

It's definitely the most broad, but the original plan had been a closed + open session with Intel I believe. That could have been done but instead he accepted an open hearing with Oversight and is only doing closed testimony with both Intels. I dunno. Just a thought.

You seem to be missing the point. We all acknowledge this is true.  The fact that it won't change anything is the huge news.  Because you know, it really really really should.

A political party and its supporters being willing to not just tolerate a president who is a career criminal, but actually empowering that career criminal to a degree none of us have ever seen, is a historical moment.  And yet there are tens of millions who will shrug their shoulders and continue to support Trump and the people who enable him.

IMO Trump's not the story here.  Cohen's not the story either. Republican voters and their complicity are the story.

Eh that's not correct. The DOJ has already indicted IRA and GRU and pled in doing that that GRU leaked to WL. Now Cohen says that Trump and Stone coordinated with WL. That's a criminal conspiracy. Now you can argue it's not, or argue motive or proof, but that is technically evidence.

My wife is black and strongly republican.  Her entire black family is strongly republican.  They voted for Trump and still support him.  I can guarantee that they will ignore today's testimony and continue to support him.  Pretty sad.

Wait wait wait a minute hold up

The date on the check is after president trump held his big press conference claiming that he gave up control of his businesses. How could the president have arranged for you to get this check if he supposedly was playing no role in his businesses?

Sad state we are in.

If you believe what he is accused of saying about black people I think you would be joining people who know he needs to be bounced asap. Intense anger should be coming from everywhere.

The case against Trump for campaign finance violations regarding paying off Stormy Daniels is open and shut based on Cohen's evidence and testimony.  I guess Republicans are ok with this?

There are some documents for some of his allegations.  There is also a lot of hearsay without documents.
he also named the Trump Org CFO who could verify Cohen's testimony that Trump knew about the hush money payments.  Trump would be going to prison just like Cohen, except that he's the President.  this might not be a big deal to Trump defenders but it's absolutely incredible in our country's history

Well they elected a guy accused of sexual assault by 17 people.  I have yet to see anything worse than that in Cohen's testimony.  They already overlooked his character long ago.

Yes.  The fact this is all being said about the President of the United States of America is a huge moment - even if only half of it is true. Shocking you can't see this perspective.

I actually cringed when he said that.  Wasn't the check from a revocable trust account?  Technically, that's not his businesses.

THEY did?  you're on here today saying that you can't see how any of this is a big deal.  the President is a criminal and its not a big deal

I don't think you know what hearsay is.

The tax fraud case is open and shut too.

And yes, they are. Like I said, I think that's the real story here. We've reached the point that Trump's criminality is not in question. The fact that nothing will happen is arguably a bigger story than if something did happen.

If something did happen it would simply be Watergate. The historical precedent for what's actually happening here- tens of millions of people and a political party condoning and defending criminality in service of empowering an aspiring authoritarian who scapegoats minorities and the press- are far darker than Watergate

But all this is old news.  It's the political grandstanding around old Cohen claims and giving a proven liar a massive stage for hearsay that I'm mocking.  Not the crimes. The crimes are awful and I've never defended them.

Jim Jordan ripping Cohen for working for Trump when he knows he's a scumbag...meanwhile Jordan carrying Trump's water as a member of Congress.

Jim Jordan is the absolute worst. Pure partisan garbage. No interest in this country. No interest in truth.
He’s picking up where Cohen left off. GOP is doing his work now. Hope they all end up in the same place.

Since we're watching this like a sporting event whether we want to or not, that last question by Gym Jordan about Cohen not getting a job in the WH backfired on him and he lost the round.

This is not a good result for Trump. This was a definition of what Cohen did for Trump.
