Official MLB playoffs thread: 23 hour game exhausts all ball supplies (1 Viewer)

Who wins it all?

He has an oWAR of 1.8 with Boston. His Boston OPS is well over .700 because of last year. So no, no cherry picking.

:shrugs: He's an average major league offensive player at his position offensively. They each do things to stay there. He's an eight year guy. Anything you get is a surprise.

:shrugs again:

This should be fun. This should be enjoyable. Enjoy yourself, friend. You really need to.

As long as you want to keep digging this hole, I'll enjoy watching you do it.

Hey you... Down in that hole. Why am I still waiting for this? Have you not found these treasures yet?
Fangraphs won't load splits for ISO to the best of my ability.

So... I think he had a .297/.354/.641 line against lefties -- this year.  Last year it was .324/.457/.751, but an .892 OPS for Boston. The year before that it was .295/.456/.751.

He's a career .724 OPS guy all around left and right.

John Smoltz: "And the thing about this is Eduardo Nunez is a good bad ball hitter off of left-handers." Right before the home run! That's straight from the telecast, and you're more than welcome to find that. I've argued an innocuous statement enough. I heard the players asking him in the dugout how he kept it fair and in the air. The other comment -- It's not too far off, either. He's got a slightly above replacement stat line for three years for his position, if I'm not mistaken. He averages a 1.67 WAR the past three years, according to Fangraphs.

I'm going to go with my own eyes and Smoltz, frankly. I wasn't even bragging on a Boston player. I simply said he'd done that for them, but I'm probably remembering him more last year, admittedly and humanly imperfect.

But that's not what this is about, and isn't the hole I'm talking about. This is fundamentally two differing ways of looking at things and treating people.

Pedro Martinez just called him a notorious breaking ball and change up hitter on MLB Network and used f(x) to talk about swing path and why it was a bad match up against the logic and against the lefty. :shrugs:

You can take this as further digging a hole, but I've been cordial and nice. I have not only stats about his replacement level and WAR, but also evidence from two Hall Of Famers that know baseball. No evidence is perfect, but you're not helping matters out with tone or attitude, frankly. It's not productive. You can dislike me and dislike Nunez, but on this night, well, it's the Red Sox' night. And I made the mistake of letting you put me to work and task about it. I resent that.

And thus endeth this. Let's have fun in this thread, because it's hard enough to watch these games with this much pressure.

Sale was not to pretty good last night.

Started off strong but just missing the strike zone or "nibbling" way too much.

He seemed to be pitching scared to what seemed like a below avg Dodgers lineup. Never really came after any of them.

But I'm not much of a fan. Maybe this is how he always pitches?

Had to throw way too many pitches to get out of innings and he seemed to fatigue quickly ... likely due to the illness last week.

Then Cora with the quick hook ... which Sale was none to pleased about. Maybe throw strikes next time?

I don't care what you're arguing about, this statement doesn't help your cause.
Wait? The hyperbole used by a talking head, to create suspense during the live broadcast of the game, isn't something that we should build the foundation of an argument on?

Wait, no, you can just look at the stats that you love.

Or, you can use an expert as evidence.

But you wouldn't do that, because you know better.

Look, this is over. You wanna keep at this? You go ahead. But I'm not looking bad over your bad trip anymore.

Your stats aren't doing you any favors. Neither is moving the goal posts each and every time you provide them.

Was happy to see Baez exit, stuff was electric.

Roberts too by-the-book there with the hook, use your damn eyes buddy.
par for the course
Was at Game 2 last year when he pulled Hill who had given up one hit (IIRC) and Maeda after 2 innings of no hits.   Maddening.   Sometimes you need to just recognize that a guy has good stuff on a given night.   Funny thing is he didn't go by the analytics when he left Freese in to hit instead of pinch hitting with Muncey because Freese was swinging the bat well.

Here's Eduardo Nunez "Doing It" in 2018 ( you know... 2/3rds of that year and a half timeframe) in similar situations to last night's heroics.

2 outs w/ RISP - .193/.270/.281

Late and close - .229/.267/.329

 vs LHP - .260/.297/.344

As a PH - .167/.167/.167

Late game - 7-9th inning - .254 /.285/.324 0 HRs and 11 RBI over 152 PAs

Stop. Seriously.

You’re both making asses of yourselves. Take it to PMs.

Debating baseball in a baseball thread?!?!?! OMG! This is like the worst thing ever. Especially when its happening when the game's aren't even taking place. The clutter! The humanity!

Again.  maybe you should stick to bbq and guns

So, which David Price shows up tonight?
  Wouldn't blink if he was good tonight. Last start could have built some long needed post season confidence, significantly better at home throughout the year and only Machado and Dozier have a significant number of PAs against him.

I'm a baseball geek and you guys were boring me.

so .... how 'bout that Nunez guy?

Intentional walk to get to Devers,

Wood comes in to pitch to Devers, Cora wrecks that plan by pinch hitting his only right handed bench player.

How clutch is THIS guy.... first world series at bat ... crushed over the wall.

Way to make 'em pay for the intentional walk.  Roberts may reconsider putting guys on base going forward.

Nunez =  Series MVP??? He's in the running!

I can't believe that Cora has him riding pine tonight. I mean after doing what he's done for them for the last year and half? Its criminal

Heading out to watch the game...

In Raleigh...found a good Boston bar last nite for the game (Brickhouse).  Gonna try a place closer to me tonite (Players Retreat), supposedly the owner a Dodger fan...should be fun

The Dodgers deserve to lose for hitting Freese third, and not having either Bellinger or Muncy in the starting lineup. I can’t root for the Red Sox but come the #### on!

Kinsler looked on him. Kinsler's wOBA is .269.  That is not good. Making the third out at third is still not good no matter the universe.
